  1. Well, I hope that Obama at least has the decency not to pursue TTIP anymore.
  2. Incredible. White (working) man's revenge. It's hour zero for a lot of things. Hillary still has chances, though she has to win Wisconsin, or something unlikely like Iowa and Arizona or even Alaska. She still has several ways to win so the accumulative probability of a win is not bad. Her problem though is that each of the several specific probabilities is low. But even if she wins, it's an amplified Brexit. Globalization has lead to something close to a revolt. Also, Trump basically did this alone. Tacit Party support. No "ground game", no newspaper endorsements. And he'll have the whole government under his control. We are going to live in interesting times. Also, Clinton ran an Obama campaign without Obama's strengths.

Phil Collins (And Other Genesis Types)

I think that "alternative" was the umbrella term for all the white music that didn't fit into the happy, shallow, pro-capitalism sentiment that came with Thatcher/Reagan. The term came up in the early 80s with Bands like REM. Even in the 90's, there was no shortage of mainstream white rock'n'roll bands, like Bon Jovi or Aerosmith, basically the last wave of 80's hair metal. Something happened to music around 1980, it became almost impossible for an artist to be both successful and subversive. You either had to be Phil Collins OR Peter Gabriel. You could not be both. A similar example: David Bowie and the Let's Dance Album.

    The Hare's Death Pool

I've also been thinking of hosting/maintaining a deadpool. I would have done it this year already if it had not been as busy as it was. I hope my move will be completed by the end of the month, so that I can be available in the new year if anyone feels like sharing the duties.

    The Hare's Death Pool

Good luck in your future endeavours, including the DDP! Personally, I am currently too interested in all cultural things to stop deadpooling. Deadpooling is basically a welcome side-effect of trying to keep up with the general progress/regress/history of mankind. I think if I was too narrowly focused on death alone, I would stop. But as long as I can keep death within the greater context of life, I feel fine with it.

  7. I'm about to move, intra-Berlin, I'll probably be off the grid for a few weeks. Let's see if research on mobile phone can be as effective as on a 'real' computer.
  8. The Bush vs. Kerry election was basically the Republicans drawing a line in the sand, saying: "this is us, and that is you". Yes, they won that election, but they also intensified the degree of polarization so much, that there are now two almost completely separated camps, and unfortunately for them, the republican camp is getting steadily smaller.

"Already doing better" is a euphemism for "feeling good, but will snuff it anyways" Could be, yes, it's only second-hand knowledge, not first-hand.

    Dead Architects

Indian arcitect MN Sharma is dead at 93: http://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-news-india/mn-sharma-first-chief-architect-of-chandigarh-dies-at-93/ He worked with Le Corbusier and was India's first architect for a while. He was ill for a long time, and though I could imagine he'll still get a Telegraph obit, I put him in Hare's Deadpool instead.

I can't wait to divulge my inside knowledge that I, very coincidentally, received, about a celebrity with cancer, who is going to be picked by a couple of expert deadpoolers, but who, as I know, is already doing better.

    World's Oldest

Looking at Wikipedia's list of all-time oldest people, it seems like there was a lot of them in the 1990s (especially during the end, with 3 out of the current top 5 dying between 1997 and 1999), and now there's again a surge. I wonder why there seems to be less of them in the 2000s. My guess would be the group who were aged 110+ in the late 1990s were too old to have fought in WW1; the group who are 110+ now are too young to have fought in WW1. Hence why there were fewer 110+ in the 2000s - they were the WW1 generation. That might explain the men, not sure about the women. The Spanish Flu??

Since his recovery he had multiple heart attacks. No idea if he can obit though. He has a wikipedia article as "Carman".
