Hmm ok, the Guardian is slaying you with their coverage of the Pell commission: http://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/royal-commission-into-institutional-responses-to-child-sexual-abuse So the obit for Ronald Mulkarns is probably a guarantee. Of course, I thought it would be a unique hit. DDT probably thought so as well...

Dead: http://www.islandpacket.com/news/local/community/beaufort-news/article64158467.html Pancreatic cancer... still a bitch... (Louise Plowright had it as well...)

I'm sort of glad it's over. I thought that the amount of publicity had become a bit ridiculous. I don't know whether Rory wanted/needed the money and album promotion or whether it was some kind of evangelical "we share our pain with the whole world" sentiment. But I thought it was a bit much. Still, obviously a very, very sad story, but then there's a tragic fate behind many of our picks here. I guess I have compartmentalized my brain into the emotional and the "hmm, good pick" part. Edit: I hope the media attention reserved for terminally ill country singers with touching stories now transfers to Jackie Storrar. But it's not looking too good, at least for now: http://www.fifetoday.co.uk/what-s-on/leisure-time/jackie-is-one-song-closer-to-dream-album-1-4020781

Instagram star (?) Sarah Bambey dead, probably because of suicide, unless they are covering it up completely: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3476036/Pretend-Health-Freak-Instagram-blogger-Sarah-Bambey-dies-age-22.html She had an Instragram blog (?) on healthy recipes and clean living.

He reminds of me of the old Nazi-guy from the James Bond movie "A view to a kill", with just a little bit of Dr. Strangelove in the mix.

My own chances: I think all my three teams could make the top ten. Shameless probably has the most potential of all teams in the competition, with all these young and unique picks. But obitability... I think it will fall short of 100pts and end up somewhere around place 5-10. The Love Boat is cruising comfortably into the Top Ten, especially post-Feek (everyone had Crowe anyway, except Shameless, of course.). An obit for Delpech would put it into top three territory I believe. But there are question marks around the obitability of Andrew Yeaman, Jackie Storrar and Gary Haggarty. It's unrealistic to believe that these three all die and obit. So I'd put The Love Boat around place 5 in the end. In terms of point potential and obitability, The "B" team is between Shameless and The Love Boat, with six unique picks and a potential 26-point joker. It now has three hits and is a slow-burning team that will improve as the year progresses. I wouldn't be surprised if my teams end up at place 4-5-6 or something like that. In fact, I believe they might all have been potential winners in the last year (when nobody reached 100pts). But I repeat, this year will be spectacular and the previous point and hit records will be broken by several people.

Probably the wife. I don't think Helmut is that big of an asskohl. Au contraire, Helmut Kohl had a nasty streak. It could be him, but I think he's incapable of these decisions. What was in the biography that upset him so much? Probably family stuff. His first wife committed suicide because of her "Light allergy". Sunlight hurt her so she was forced to live in total darkness during the last years of her life. Armchair psychology says that she couldn't cope with her husband being always away, always in politics. Also, both sons of Kohl are estranged from him. There were many dirty stories there as well. Kohl was a ruthless man, a power politician. He didn't really care about policy, but about power, how to achieve it and to maintain or increase it. He has/had tons of enemies, like Heiner Geißler and Kurt Biedenkopf (if you care). Former federal president Richard Von Weizsäcker was a frenemy. He ruined Wolfgang Schäubles chances to succeed him during a donation scandal and was then famously let down by Angela Merkel, when everybody had enough of him.

At least, he really seems to be terminally ill. I was expecting a January/February death, with him being in palliative care and all that. But I'll settle for a mid-year death. But of course, the later he dies, the less likely an obit becomes, since I'm not convinced of an automatic Guardian/Daily Mail obit.

Crowe used cannabis oil to deal with the pain: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/article-3475982/New-Zealand-cricket-legend-Martin-Crowe-used-liquid-marijuana-deal-pain-cancer-death.html Yes, he survived a couple of months longer than he "should" have, but they weren't good months. But then, what else should you do...

more known for being an interviewer rather than am actor also he is a centenarian in the making just look at his photos. Yes, to be honest, I was completely amazed when I saw how old he actually is. I mostly know him from his role on Arrested Development. You would never have guessed he was almost 80 when he played that role.

After Crowe and Feek, Shameless should not get into the lead again. It was a bit of a freak occurence anyway. And my main team should finally overtake Shameless as well... It should become obvious now why I declared Captain Chorizo the favourite on the previous page (or the one before that?). Jade Pateman was huge for him.
-
RIP, Mr. Crowe... I guess there's quite an avalanche coming up, with Feek not far behind... My DDP theme team was only able to get into the lead again because Feek and Crowe lasted far longer than most people anticipated.

You know........ I did a TON of research for team Gris Gris (DDP theme) and let's just say it's damn near impossible to discover all these nobodies. I rest assured I entered 'John/Jon/Johnny Johnson/Johns/John' probably a dozen times and NEVER did this 98-year old asshole pop up. As the GM of team Gris Gris, I say on behalf of the team, Fuck him! SC Yeah, I wondered if you picked him and checked it myself. However, I guess he will not obit anyway. -
On an entirely unrelated note, did anyone else catch her interview on BBC Radio about death and dying about a month ago? In it, she said she had a scan to see how bad the cancer had gotten "early next month" (ie about now). I assume the decision is whether to try another chemo cycle or give up...
-
Damnit, all my instincts were telling me he is going to die this year. But I didn't pick him.

On a related note, and because Spotlight just won the Best Picture Oscar, I was very close to picking Cardinal Bernard Law of Boston in the DDP. At one point he was said to be in very bad health, around mid-2015, ah, like here: https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2015/09/29/cardinal-sean-malley-compares-pope-francis-visit-national-religious-retreat/LOdOMhDfjRclQDNby3jFnJ/story.html But then it sort of turned out that Cardinal Law was doing ok, and was "banished" to Vatican City where he lives like a king in exile or something like that.

So "John Travolta's twinks" fails to get a full 10 out of 10 because of the awesome resilience of Lupita Tovar.

Interesting (?) how George Kennedy, Frank Kelly and Louise Plowright avoided February 29th... Wasn't Plowright getting treatment in Singapore? Thumbs up from me for the Scandinavian Theme Team "Ikea Nokia Lego" that I just discovered Also, someone already picked Athol Fugard... I wanted to get a unique hit with him in the future.
