Minimalists (and other classical composers/musicians)

Wikipedia says that American pianist and classical composer Gil Trythall died in February this year: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gil_Trythall He is a DDP pick, so List of the Lost. Can't find the source for the death date though. -
Alright, here's a last call.... It is my turn to hand over my part of the DDP work to another person. Please contact the committee if you are up for taking over the data part for the DDP. While we have received some interest the last time, it would preferable to find somebody who is already somewhat in the know about how to work with Excel, Access, maybe a bit of .html (only in the rare case of troubleshooting or changing the score rules). If you volunteer, we can do the transition to the next year together. I promise, I'll assist heavily. And well, I want to assure folks that if nobody steps up, I can do it for another year. The machine is well-oiled, I'd say, and I am having a bit of fun with it. BUT: If I stay on as DDP co-host, I will not take over the DeathList Cup. I might not be able to assist in a smooth transition next year. It could be an abrupt change from 2024 to 2025, so it would be a big improvement to do that this year. And who knows if I am staying motivated for another year. I don't want to run away screaming like former host The Man in Black.

Very Rev. Hugh Wyllie, the former moderator of the general assembly of Scotland has died at age 89: https://www.churchofscotland.org.uk/news-and-events/news/2023/articles/tribute-to-former-moderator-of-the-general-assembly-who-has-died I thought I recognized the name, and yes, he is, of course, a DDP pick. Jawaher has died of stomach cancer at 45: https://www.lahamag.com/article/202845-إلهام-الفضالة-تكشف-وصية-جواهر-الكويتية At least, wikipedia is telling me that and I think the article here is the relevant one. It tells me that I maybe should update my giant Cup lists..

Sam Bankman-Fried has been found guilty on all accounts and could face up to 110 years. I'm also thinking of his parents who assisted him every step of the way. They are notable academics with their own Wikipedia pages and really some kind of liberal caricature. I'm kind of getting some Madoff family vibes.

I wonder if we can break the DDP hit record today, if we keep this up.

Guess we should do a bit of a mop up update. GUB, yes, I missed your second replacement post where you added Nick Hungerford. I think you missed Bob Barker yourself? I have him scored for you. Cpt. Chorizo, you had the Iron Sheik points, but not the Adrian Street points. I must have missed him back then. He's added. The big new hit in this update is Ady Barkan. The health care activist in need of health care was quite a big hit here, picked by quite a few people. You want your points, you'll get them now! Missed by some of those who might have needed him. Indiana college coach Bob Knight was a clever hit for a few people who used him as a mid-year substitution. Bibliogryphon should qualify for some kind of trophy for being the only one to pick Matthew Perry, i.e. Chandler from Friends. I never watched the show, can't give any clever comments. But I think I've read a lot of blind items on him for years. In hindsight, they were all true. He didn't look THAT much of a mess to me. And finally, Sir Bobby Charlton caps this update with a header, as I have learned. A very popular pick here, too. Hope it's all up to date now, here's the score: Rank Team Score 1 Banana 1073 2 gcreptile 981 3 RadGuy 934 4 Cpt. Figure skating icon Jutta Müller has died at 94, the most prominent figure skating teacher Germany had: https://www.mdr.de/sport/andere_sportarten/eiskunstlauf-ikone-jutta-mueller-gestorben-100.html Yes, I know it's posted elsewhere, but here it comes with a question. Anyone else discovering their DACH-roots, or feeling in the mood to participate in next year's list while also being a DACH citizen?

I think I am leaning towards "natural" death for the DDP, though I guess the official reason might count as unnatural. We've had this discussion before, falls happen at old age and they often trigger the final decline - but may also be a sign that this decline has already begun. I suspect we've had lots of these cases before, that went unnoticed. I kind of feel that death needs to be more immediate to be unnatural, but by precedence, we've counted falls as unnatrual deaths as long as death happens "in the same year". For example, we've had falls late in one year and then people being picked for the new game and dying from it, after being in a coma for quite some time, for example. These ones never counted.

"Funny", or as Alanis Morrissette would say, "ironic". Heart failure, mostly unexpected, gone in a second. Meanwhile his brother looked like death warmed up at some point last year because of cancer.

Currently in Montenegro, was in Kotor, now Podgorica. Too rainy today, sadly, about to take the night train to Belgrade. Hoping to solve a murder case on the train.

Thread for George Soros, the multi-billionaire hungarian investor, born 1930: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Soros Last week, he was the target of a bomb attack, probably not the first one - as he is rumoured to have caused pretty much every single liberal historical development in the past 30 years. And ever since he crashed the Bank of England, he's been accused of causing every stock market crash anywhere on the world. Could it be that his chances of survival are slightly overpriced?

Behind paywall for me, but still an interesting footnote, Vic FIscher, the last living participant of the Alaskan constitutional convention, has died at 99: https://www.ketchikandailynews.com/news/alaska/vic-fischer-last-surviving-delegate-to-alaska-constitutional-convention-dies-at-age-99/article_54b8c254-7297-11ee-a2f5-b7cf034b28eb.html Alaska became a state in 1959, the convention was in 1955-1956.

Erik Jensen, of Walking Dead fame, has colorectal cancer: https://tvline.com/news/walking-dead-erik-jensen-cancer-diagnosis-season-5-dr-steven-edwards-go-fund-me-1235065284/ He's still filming and seems to be doing alright, but also had a brain aneurysm last year. Sounds very 50:50 to me.
