South African show presenter Derek Watts ("Carte Blanche") has died: https://www.news24.com/news24/southafrica/news/just-in-veteran-journalist-derek-watts-dies-20230822 Now one doesn't need to ponder about his obitability anymore. -
Tori Spelling has been in hospital for a couple of days: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-12426945/Tori-Spelling-reveals-shes-hospitalized-four-days-amid-split-husband-Dean-McDermott-Im-missing-kiddos-much.html There's also the suspicion that her recent struggles are just pretense to get a new TV show. She was seen recently living in a trailer - even though her family are billionaires.

Alright, I shouldn't delay it any longer... I will be leaving the DDP committee after this year's competition. It's been four intensive, record-breaking years and the time for turnover has come. I have already said as much earlier this year, and received some interest in the position. If you can imagine yourself being part of the committee, write me, or Death Impends or Banana. We will come back to you. Earlier in the year, we asked so that you can express an interest. Now we're asking SERIOUSLY. You need to be able to handle Excel and a bit of Access. The requirements and tasks of the job haven't changed. You should be able to handle the database, to import/export files from Excel to Access and vice versa. A tiny bit of .html can't hurt. I will not be gone and can provide help if needed. I ...might... however, not be around during the change of year, it's still an open question right now. But if you write to us, we will reply. I will probably send some files in September so you can familiarize yourself with the structure of it all. There is some effort involved in getting the game running at the beginning of the year. It depends on how clean the data is. Once everything is set up, updating the database is actually a little trivial because there's a little helper program for that. Updating the scores only takes maybe 15 minutes every couple of days. Keeping the database up-to-date during the change of year is a little more time-intensive. But I hope to transfer something usable so that this process only takes a few hours (each year). I will leave for a week-long holiday on Tuesday. So please think about it and message me/us in the meantime.

Whats the lore behind the 7 years?

Yeah, the thing is, it's not even close, and it's not like we've run out of gas by now - with about 10 likely names on the deathlist and the Drop 40 people who supposedly were a sure thing.

Daniel Barenboim tried to conduct and did a terrible job in Lucerne: https://slippedisc.com/2023/08/rough-landing-for-barenboim-in-lucerne/ Since conductors like to think they're Gods, he'll die the minute nobody books him anymore. Comments also mention a serious vascular illness. -

Well, there goes my chance of becoming a Contessa.

Some men (and women) are incapable of living alone. Maybe he'll die if he is forced to spend a week alone without a woman at his side.

"Has hosted something" could be a bonus category in next year's Joker deadpool.

No reason not to believe his grandson that Jimmy is going to see the next birthday. No more guarantees after that though.

Okay, I'll score Renata Scotto and ISIS guy today (with 9+3 pts!). And Michael Parkinson is then the 200th hit of the year. Do I hear...record?

Next general, Gennady Lopyrev, 69, dies of an illness in prison: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12415979/Jailed-Russian-general-69-knew-secrets-Putins-1billion-Black-Sea-palace-dies-mysteriously-prison-ahead-parole-bid-second-Kremlin-commander-perish-days.html No direct connection to the war though. Not necessarily suspicious I'd say, it can happen at 69. And prison doesn't really help.

Bindeshwar Pathak, India's "Toilet man", died at 80: https://www.arabianbusiness.com/culture-society/renowned-toilet-man-of-india-bindeshwar-pathak-dies-at-80 https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-66519696 A campaigner for sanitation standards in India, which you know, is the real sign of a civilization. Initially made fun of, but extremely important. To quote the article, "He founded Sulabh in 1970 and it became synonymous with public toilets and activism against open defecation in no time."

Hm, yes, you're right. I can see it now on the phone. The mobile app seems better for this than the desktop version.
