    King Constantine II of Greece

Neither Rainier nor Hussain are part of the ...uhh... European interbreeding bunch of families though. Just look at all the usual families, Simeon of Bulgaria, King Michael of Romania, all the recently deceased or still living scandinavian monarchs. I kind of think that the breeding problem (+ the best health care money can buy and having a pretty stress-free life) helped with their life expectancy.

    King Constantine II of Greece

Just to explain what I meant with the list age, nowadays every european monarch seems to reach 90 or get close to it. While I didn't systematically check it, he might be the youngest monarch to die since King Baudoin of Belgium?

83 would be pretty young for a European Royal, wouldn't it? They all now seem to reach ages of 85 and older.

    Princess Bajrakitiyabha of Thailand

As far as I know, you're not allowed to spread rumours about the royal family because of the lese majesté laws. All the info about her has to be taken with grains of salt. She may die tomorrow or in a couple of years. Maybe she's a new Ariel Sharon, or a Jessica Falkholt.

    Death By Numbers 2023

It's probably the biggest one-person-pool right now, but then I don't do "real obits", or pictures, or my own website. Thank God. We have 520 teams in the DDP? I -still- haven't looked at the file. But that's a neat increase. After the historic peak of around 600 teams in the early 2010s, we've hovered roughly around 500 since then. 498 teams the last time (one withdrawal, one or two late entry rejections). I have to assume with many pools increasing in size this year, that this is not random movement, but an increase in interest.

    Death By Numbers 2022

Alright, let's call it a wrap! I am unaware of any late hits that impact the scoreboard. I also checked for the possibility year-end obits, especially Sonny Caldinez and Arno, for some late points - but came up empty! So the previous scoreboard should actually be the final one. Which means Banana is the winner of 2022, well done! Those were some impressive 12 months of deadpooling. It was not a start-to-finish walk, Banana never really ran away from the field, only in Decembre did a 2 hit-advantage crystallize. I could always imagine that, say An FearBeag, or Salmon Mousse might still make it close. For example, I regarded Jeanette Lee as a possibly threat. Especially An Fear Beag had collected, in my opinion, the strongest team "on paper", meaning lots of official stage 4 cancer names, even though not close to death. But with a stage 4 diagnosis, you never know.... Personally, I'll probably never pick Shannen Doherty, and probably never Linda Nolan. But they can always have a downturn.... though last year, they didn't. And so Banana sniffed out the "real" targets 1-2 times where others didn't. SalmonMousse was in contention for the first half of the year, and then An Fear Beag and Predictor had some 2nd half of the year cinderella runs. Also worth mentioning is msc's podium place. Some of the gambles didn't pay off, so there was no occasion for him to shine at any point in the competition. But the end result is still impressive. The tweaking of the formula is heading into the right direction. Also nice to see that everyone ended up comfortably in the triple digits. And we covered a lot of names, especially those in the lower region of the scoreboard who nevertheless caught a few nuggets, like Bibliogryphon's hit of MeatLoaf. Gooseberry Crumble's Michael Barratt, Annami's Margaret Keane, and the like. A good first showing from MariNisia, too, at no. 14, well done! It's a difficult pool, you need to collect names over time and then fire them off at the right time - not easy! GuyFrom Future is at no. 16. I suspect we'll see some more of them in 2023. Thanks for playing!

    Death By Numbers 2023

Alright, here's hoping we're off to a good start. I have hopefully adjusted the masterlist and game files according to your clarifications and late developments. So let's get a first scoreboard up. Gianluca Vialli and Frank McGarvey were the huge names in this first update. Vialli especially received some joker love, a mid-sized joker bonus for him, but some players preferred the absolute certainty. It does at least give them the no. 1 spot in this first update. Fay Weldon was another hit for a few players. Bill Campbell is the first unique hit of the game, for JoeyRuss, well done! I still have to comb through all the new names and add them to my personal list, It's about 300 new names, so I am not yet familiar with all the picked names. If I missed an early death, feel free to tell me, I should find them eventually in anycase. We have 61 players in the game, and 3049 individual picks. That number is now higher than the AltObits Deadpool. That's... something. As I said, recent pictures have looked pretty ominous. On Christmas, my mother saw the pictures and suspected he's going to die soon. I also think there's a substantial probability. The cancellation of the trip came after that. He's been ill for quite some time, but that could have been because of a corruption trial. It was hard to figure out what was going on.
