No gain without pain. Research is all. There's some seriously dedicated poolers about and the competition can be fierce.

I do wonder at the efficacy of some of these bankruptcies from the point of view of HMRC (ultiimately us) or any other creditor. Maybe there's an accountant hereabouts? Whilst I know there are huge downsides to bankruptcy for the average person, I'm rather less assured of those problems being as insurmountable for the semi-famous. They still have the ability to make money from their fame that most simply do not. AFAICT she gets rid of potentially a million odd quid of debt with no long term need to pay it back, then goes straight back to earning the same amount (huge quantities more than average people) from only fans or whatever place is prepared to pay for her 'services'. That's not to say I'm entirely unsympathetic, taking care of Harvey as she did would have been a strain on anyone, but it does seem to be a little odd that one can manage it twice in 5 years. Starting to look like a habit.

(WJET/WFXP) — Crafts retailer JOANN filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy early Monday morning. The company, with over 800 stores nationwide, is best known for selling craft supplies, home decor and sewing supplies. The filing allows JOANN to continue to operate while it repays its debts, meaning no stores or online shopping is expected to be affected by the filing, according to a press release. Additionally, any obligations to employees, vendors, landlords and other trade creditors will be paid or otherwise satisfied in full. According to court documents, JOANN cited increasing interest rates and decreasing sales after a spike in sales during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2021 and 2022. Despite attempts in June 2023 to reduce costs, the company held over $1.06 billion in funded debt at the time of filing. JOANN expects to complete the Chapter 11 process as early as late April 2024, citing strong support from its financial stakeholders. Following this process, the company will likely become a private company, and shares will no longer be listed on Nasdaq or other national stock exchanges, according to the press release. “Over the past several months, JOANN has made meaningful business improvements through the execution of our Focus, Simplify and Grow cost reduction initiative. We are excited by our progress on both top and bottom-line initiatives in the past year and are confident the steps we are taking will allow JOANN to drive long-term growth. We appreciate the support from our financial and industry stakeholders in this agreement, and their confidence in our ability to continue driving positive business change.” Chris DiTullio, Chief Customer Officer and co-lead of the Interim Office of the CEO For more information on how the company will be moving forward, you can visit https://www.joannforward.com/ No, I'm not Canadian, just used a vpn cause I was curious.

New Here And Just Saying Hello
En Passant replied to football_fan's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Hello, Welcome. You're not alone. There are others. Though despite my name I'm English. Theres also a thread for Frenchies who are less well known outside their home country. Not unless your name contains any variation of crem, old, the. In which case there should be a backlog of at least 6 months at the posting border. If not, you're good to go. -
Why the fuck can't you take at least a week for a walk? "I was trying to fit in" "I see that I haven't" "I'll take a break" "You guys are probably right this doom scrolling isn't good for me" Ok, the last one is made up. Take a deeeeeeep breath. And really take a break.

Weren't you on a bus to somewhere?

Oh I'm in no position to demand or even suggest a damn thing, I'm inconsistent with my deadpooling at best. Just remembered it had been brought up before and why it was the way it was. Ah yes, its not new. And, oh blow me*. I was just saying cause it was already mentioned (again). *For the avoidance of any doubt whatsoever, from anybody whomsoever this is a fkin joke.
-
That's what I meant, not only do they not know, they are inconsistent. I should know, my first job out of school was on the book counter at WH Smith. I spent more time reading the books than attempting to sell them.
-
Well, I'm reading it as an attempt to actually reduce cross-posting. i.e. only in 2 places, 1 cat and 1 here. But could be wrong on that. It can certainly be annoying to see some little known luminary cross-posted to about 15 different places. Toast can probably do a better job of explaining.
-
Just can't get the staff, you need a qualification to lend a book but not to sell one
-
According to Ms @Toast all deaths should go here and in their respective categories. Unless I'm misreading somehow. This makes one place all the years deaths are located and each category is up to date. I think the original idea was to keep cross-posting down to two places (outside of individual pools). Also you had only to look at one thread for all the deaths of the year. Made sense to me. You'd already know far better than me about that of course, just putting the laymans view on it. Sadly I think in practice it doesn't seem to work that way very well, as not enough people are aware.

Alain Robert AKA Spider-Man

Aye thanks. Possibly not brought to mind because there's far more base jumpers than human flies (if that's exactly what you'd call him). So far as I know your actual parachute jumpers always take the easiest route to the top and mr Robert has never used a parachute. But yes, given the subtitle anyway, much closer to this than an actual Darwin. -

I think by the time these came out every place I heard music must already have been an 80's station or something. Really cannot recall a single one of them from memory by looking at the names, probably might if I heard them, but life is already too short.- 2,234 replies

Arguably not quite a Darwin. Base Jumping is an accepted sport, sort of.... Base Fatality List Not sure where you'd put it instead though. -
Auspicious start.

You know well enough its ironic/sarcastic . 1. Again, says who? You? 2. Reference? 3. Try to answer the original questions.... FFS stop postng your opinion without qualifying it as such. (If only there were a rule could force you on mod preview for that). I'll just have to follow others and block you in a bit, continuity be damned. Congratulations I never considered that for anyone else, Deathers and even Zorders never managed it.

I read picked as something else entirely.

Political Discussions And Ranting Thread
En Passant replied to Deathray's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Oh I know, but I just can't let it slide sometimes. If it's yet another Opinion Stated As Fact - it really, really grinds my gears and I'll probably never be able to let it go. If it's just terrible English and he means it as an opinion - It ought to be called out until he learns to preface it with "I think" or some equivalent. It's still pointless shite but at least not factually incorrect. I honestly don't know which it is and have little hope of actually correcting it, but one has to try. -

Well yeah, digging up Harold Wilson, Anthony Eden, Alec Douglas-Home or even Ted Heath is admittedly less likely to rouse the flagshaggers (love that term).
