Kill or Save: UK No. 1-hits of the 70s
En Passant replied to Book's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Oh I was the same as a teen, but this was before that, I was still a child at the time. It's before Dark Side of the Moon even. And I mentioned somewhere pages back that it's unsurprising the likes of us got into prog rock, pretentious as it was, when the charting alternative was the drivel we see here -

In amongst all those puke making slushy 'love' songs? This was a breath of (mouldy old) fresh air. Brilliant stuff it was -

Ah well you see I'd refer to that as an example of Toast's tactical voting. Except in this case - right out of the gate. -

Absolutely and completely spoilt for choice on what to downvote. And yet, your hatred for Slade overcomes such bounteous competition? You really prefer Dawn, Little Jimmy and oh I don't know....Peters and Lee....to anything by Slade? Remarkable consistency anyway, kudos on that. -

The trapdoor under the welcome mat with the curare tipped bamboo shoots caused a bit of consternation last year, not seen them so far this. Actually, the thing I dislike about it most is it's yet another American import. And as with most of those there's a commercial reason for it - that part pisses me off.

@Bibliogryphon It's not a comment on hot love particularly, in fact I'd rather hear it than tears of a clown, band of gold or even bridge over troubled water (some of that through overplay of those). But with -6 +4 once something starts circling the drain it's going to go. It's been pushed down that far and like a black hole by this point it's over the event horizon. If you start trying to drag it back, you're just prolonging the whole thing and we need to move on. Of course this is why the scoring is +4 -6 in the first place. -

Did you have to? It's bad enough trying to keep the Dawn stuff out of my head without adding to the issue. I've already had the stereo* on as a blocker constantly since this game began. *Streaming music service through a DAC an AMP and some floorstanding speakers doesn't really have a collective name that does it justice. -

Again, no, because you are asking hundreds of people to disregard notifications that benefit one person - you. It's not complicated. -

Ok, this is getting tedious now. @diego would you please stop 'liking' posts as some sort of personal means of keeping track of what's read and what is not? There is a perfectly good forum function that does this for you without any work at all. At the risk of offending you (one I'm prepared to take) adding a 'like' to every post you read is selfish, and I'll even explain why... 1. You cause a 'notification' to any post you like. This means instead of people seeing responses they might be interested in, they see 'your marker' 2. Eventually every post on the entire board is going to have 'your marker' 3. If everyone who is active here did what you are doing, every post would have 100's of markers just like 'your marker' Please please please, stop doing it. If you need help to track what you are up to date with and what you are not, just ask. Thanks. -

Indeed, I have no particular axe to grind about Hank Lee Marvin either, but if it's clearly going to go, get it gone and move on. Harrison was the most marmite song there it appeared, and with +4 for and -6 against, it was only a matter of time. Slade however..... well, there's book on one side, but outnumbered on the other. We shall see . Where the hell are you going TQR such that some kind of phone can't get you in long enough to vote? -

Given the popularity of this thread I had already started to wonder what might happen when we ran out of historical #1's at two years a pop. Well......we could do #2's (Oh do grow up....) or 3, 4 and so on. That'll last a while. -

To be honest I had managed to successfully blank Dawn from my memory entirely until knock three times turned up - then you mentioned it wasn't their worst offering - prompting me to recall what was. Without knowing their entire catalogue (and being too scared to actually look with 2/2 being amongst the most irritating songs in history) I couldn't be categorical and thus I settled on probably even if in all likelihood it was 'certainly'. We have so much pain yet to come, I'm buggered if I'm trawling for unnecessary grief. -

All this reminds me why I detest Karaoke. If you like the track - you don't want to hear it tunelessly slaughtered by tone-deaf drunks. If you don't like the track - you don't want to hear it at all, whether rendered by tone-deaf drunks or not. The very definition of lose lose. -

Easier to see why prog rock was popular when the alternative was Tie a Fuckin Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree (edit: Which will be getting -6 from me until it's gone). Now that probably was Dawns most gut wrenching track ever.
