Now here's a candidate for a false-flag operation assuming he even has the slightest notion of what that might be. -
@Bibliogryphon You're not trying nearly hard enough. I made more errors in the submission of 1/5th of my team and went on to multiply that by a factor of 5 by the time I'd finished. Pull your finger out. End of term report - Must try harder.

Colin Vearncombe. Sadly gone as a result of a car crash in 2016, far too early. That was a bad year all around and particularly in pop music. -
Ah my bad, didn't know or had forgotten that one (I told you I was bad at this). Fear not mate, I'm at least one more who isn't going to beat you with that

Erm, I'm hoping it isn't. Can you not win by getting one from each? It doesn't matter if even four of those include someone else so long as the fifth doesn't include that same person (i.e shared but with somebody else)? I confess that at least half the reason I'm hoping is that I'm so bad at this I was happy I had only one unique because it meant at least I wasn't the only one picking some no-hoper in the other 4 categories.

I couldn't tell what the difference was between circling around for penalties and what they were doing in the first place so gave up on it. -
The Guardian is as bad, it gets a bee in it's bonnet about something and can't stop pushing articles about it passing it off as news. That's when it can stop posting other articles about a topic that you discover only at the bottom is actually a book plug long enough to annoy in a different way.... Never seen strictly either. Nor in fact 90% of what passes for entertainment on there.

Nor me, particularly if you start asking it anything even vaguely political. It starts prevaricating and adding caveats like a genuine politician. However on purely technical/mathematical topics it's relatively easy to sanity check. I can do the rough calc in my head, so if it's utterly wrong its obvious. I'm just too lazy to do the longhand. -

Understanding the Problem: We need to find the time taken for sound to travel from lane 1 to lane 9 on an athletics track. We'll assume the starting gun is fired at the beginning of lane 1. Key Information: Speed of sound: Approximately 343 meters per second in air at room temperature. Distance between lanes: Typically, 1 meter. Number of lanes to consider: 8 (from lane 1 to lane 9). Calculation: Total distance: 8 lanes * 1 meter/lane = 8 meters. Time taken: Distance / Speed = 8 meters / 343 meters/second ≈ 0.0233 seconds. Therefore, it would take approximately 0.0233 seconds for the sound of the starting gun to travel from lane 1 to lane 9. Note: This is a very simplified calculation and assumes ideal conditions. Factors like temperature, humidity, and wind can affect the speed of sound. The actual perception of the sound by athletes might be influenced by other factors, such as the angle of the sound waves, noise levels, and individual hearing abilities. It took me a little over 0.005 of a second to stuff your query into some AI which then came up with a far better answer than I did using my fingers and limited mental capacity. It was an interesting question to be sure. And yes, it would make a difference by the look of it. -
Who? Anyway you or I could die and it'll cause zero waves, so fair enough I suppose. Man you do put the work in on people nobody ever heard of. Kudos.

Mr Universe is so silly. They have absolutely no idea of the scale, none whatsoever. I know, I know, fuck you and your scientific rationale. But I can't help it.

Oh I know, you know I watch it a bit. I've also ridden on a track, once just to see what it's like, not competitively. Those fixies are tricky things if you never tried one. But even with that as a background this one is a shocker for the Germans, got to hurt. -

I know you're just trying to join in, you swore like a trooper earlier along with everyone else, when you don't normally at all. But would you please stop making these wild unsubstantiated claims? You do it everywhere and that's what puts people off I believe (well it does me anyway). -

Thats just ridiculous in the track sprints. UK break the WR in the first round. Germany break that in the next round. NZ then break that in the same round and....UK break it yet again in the same round. Germany now can't do better than Bronze in the finals tomorrow later (seems I misheard) - having a few minutes before broken the WR. Crazy. -

The sailors are far more professional, not a single one of them overboard in the dinghies yet. (which is more of a feat than you might imagine looking at it). -

All I have to say about that event (I don't watch gymnastics really) is I'm utterly unsurprised that men don't compete in that particular discipline . -

I don't know so much, pole-vaulting and perhaps to a lesser degree high jumping appear to this amateur watcher to be very technical pursuits and very easy to mess up especially if the nerves kick in as they must on a 3rd attempt of three if not before. If you're used to running a 50 second 400m to use a currently running example, a bad day might be 50.5 or 51 even and you might possibly still progress but in the pole vault it's a total fail. Shrug, perhaps I'm being too lenient. ETA: Freed From Desire, yet again.... they get hold of something like a Terrier these French eh? Oh and I heard Le Bertrand Plastique yesterday as well, now that's taking it back a while (though my curiosity piqued I looked him up and apparently he was Belgian ). What's next Oxygene? -

It is different: If you divide 1 by 1,000 you get 1,000 parts. 5 of those is 5/1000's. If you divide 1 by 5,000 you get 5,000 parts. 1 of those is 1/5000's. 5 of them would be 5/5000's 5/1000's is 5 times bigger than 5/5000's and 25 times bigger than 1/5000. or (as biblio has put it, decimally) .001 of a second is a thousandth, and .005 is five thousandths .0001 is a ten thousandth and .0002 is double that or a five thousandth. HTH. ETA: perhaps the latter part of the second definition is where the problem lies, on reading it back to myself (I'm a dolt, so I try to make sure), 'five thousandths' does appear to be extraordinarly similar to a 'five thousandth'. -
Maybe I'm just dumb, but I honestly can't see a difference here from a satellite overview. The facts in each case are completely different but they share in common experts on one side determining one outcome, and other experts not being called because they held an opposing view. Years ago I attended a labour party conference (as the IT support guy for Journalists covering it) and was pulled by an 'explosives detector' for what was probably handling something similar to those coated playing cards, so I'm not surprised by that. I was allowed in after a while anyway, just as well for me no bomb ever went off I suppose. Do I think Letby is innocent? Probably not. Did I question that guilt at all until I read The New Yorker report? - Which legally I probably shouldn't have done - No. Did I believe the Birmingham Six and the Guildford Four were guilty? Sure, until they weren't. I also know that the police are generally only concerned with collecting evidence that supports their case so that they can present it to the CPS, this doesn't mean they'll 'hide' opposing evidence they are given, but they'll spend less time working to get it (or none). It's also why people on a charge respond with 'no comment' even though it appears damning at first glance it's for the same reason, police are searching for prosecution statements not defence ones. That's their job. There are plenty of miscarriages of justice, sub post masters the latest and in some ways greatest. I'm not saying Letby is one but I'm no longer as certain of cast iron guilt in any case as I once was.

If they get 4 and 5 years for non-violent protests (albeit extremely disruptive) it'll be interesting to see what anyone gets for throwing various missiles, assualting the police and overturning and setting light to police vehicles. Just curious really....
