Site updated to reflect the deaths of John Campbell Ross and Tomoji Tanabe - double well done to Never Came To Maryport. Hmmm... haven't been here in a while... got a lot of posts to catch up on.

African Leaders - Despots and Democratic

Omar Bongo mort after only 41 years in office, behind only the King of Thailand and Lizzy in terms of his reign as state leader before his death. The good always die so young. -
Nobel Prize In Death
Canadian Paul replied to harrymcnallysblueandwhitearmy's topic in DeathList Forum
Hasta la vista, Dausset. Seems to be shaping up to be a brutal month. I already have a lot of people to drink to tonight, and a toast to David Carradine. -
Cripes! Is that a "significant" enough death for BCAlum2000?! Yeah, I was pretty sad when I heard this, as I quite enjoyed what work of his that I've seen. My next thought, though, was "maybe BCAlum2000 will bask in the afterglow of this for a while" and stay f ucking lost. I do find it amusing that filter transforms f ucking into silly billy, however.

Quiz Time
Canadian Paul replied to harrymcnallysblueandwhitearmy's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I thought that there was an actual Pub Quiz thread, but I can't seem to find it. Anyhow, it was a friend of mine's birthday and, in the evening, we all went to a pub quiz and ended up winning it all. What was disappointing, however, was that there was an entire round on death (not dead people, but death, the processes etc.) and that was one of our worst rounds. I was pretty depressed... I can't remember the last time I was wrong on a "dead or alive" question, but I guess I'm no good at the rest of it. I did correctly identify that hair and fingernails continuing to grow after death was false, but who would have known that fat people decompose quicker than skinny people, or that morticians use super glue to keep the jaws of corpses from popping open? -
I do, but it doesn't surprise me in the least that you don't. You are now among my favourite members, mainly because of posting that smiley. I have to agree & propose that someone is hereby allowed to use that smiley in response after every time BC Alum posts. I'm sure the mods could save us some time and set up a bot that automatically responds to their post with nothing but that smiley.

So, you don't have to be a prostitute?

Chapman Pincher. Because he's not an American college football coach.

What are you talking about? That IS the obituary that you've linked! Speaking of Olympians, by the way, I've just been told that a rather famous one has just died... but I can't mention who just yet because nothing's been printed... but it will be worth DDP points.

Ditto. But well done to Deathlist nonetheless!

Nobel Prize In Death
Canadian Paul replied to harrymcnallysblueandwhitearmy's topic in DeathList Forum
Ah yes, I remember this fellow was from my alma matter and won the Nobel Prize the year that I entered the economics program. It must have given the department a collective woody because that's all we heard about for the next year. Guy himself seemed pretty cool though... or at least decent. -
Right, that's why it was mentioned about a week ago. Lude Check as well, to save a post or two in this thread. To make this post useful, here are the only two hockey players older than Clint Smith: 1. Louis Holmes (born January 29, 1911), the longest-lived hockey player of all time. Lives in Britain, but I've heard that if you send him a letter asking for an autograph, you get a rather nasty note from his son and he keeps any cards you sent for him to sign. 2. Al Suomi (born October 29, 1913). Lives in Illinois and runs a hardware store. He will sign your autographs, as he's apparently in quite good health.

I thought I had a great tip for next year's CPDP - Canadian country music star Charlie Major had more or less disappeared since the end of 2008 and it was rumoured that he was very ill. Well, it turns out that it was actually his sister who was ill and she died of lung cancer the other day. I am glad to hear that he's alright though - he and Garth Brooks are about the only two country music stars that I can stand... and there are many who argue that Garth Brooks is not entirely a country musician...

Whoops! Thanks for pointing that out - I've updated the site now. Congrats to DevonDeathTrip and Football Fan!

Birthdays, Births, Anniversaries, etc... for 2009
Canadian Paul replied to football_fan's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Happy birthday RA! Since you love statistics and numbers so much, I thought I'd give you an extra special sexy treat for your birthday: -
I assume the subject of Allingham is being raised because of this BBC report. He looks awful I'm sad to say and, while he'll probably make 113, I'll be surprised if he doesn't earn me some HDP points by the end of the year. By the way, I love how the commercial they forced me to watch before the video was longer than the video itself.

Nobel Prize In Death
Canadian Paul replied to harrymcnallysblueandwhitearmy's topic in DeathList Forum
One less medicine laureate. Furchgott is now Furchgone. No one seems to have picked him on the DDP either. -
Well it's been about a month and a half since the last CPDP hit, but after I missed scoring with Lude Check, I managed to pick up a decent amount of points with Clint Smith, my second hit on my Theme Team.

Chuck Daly died from pancreatic cancer on May 9, 2009. His name should be removed from the list as well. Removed and updated the list to May 20 - a decent amount of new names this round.

Fathi Eljahmi was flown to a medical facility in Jordan last month, his condition is described as "comatose". Well, that was this morning....now he's dead. Removed him, as well as Elizabeth Edwards (per my comment in her thread), Patrick Manning (who recovered from cancer months ago) and Chris Todd. I have more free time now that I'm on vacation, so I'll try to update this with the new suggestions later today (my today).

In case there was any lingering doubt about removing her from the DL, she appeared on The Daily Show today looking as healthy as anyone without cancer. She claimed that she'd be able to create a universal health care plan that was better than Canada's without raising taxes and without having long waiting lines. Then she'll solve the energy crisis by distributing flying unicorns for us all to ride.

Went to check to see if there was a pre-90th birthday announcement for Canadian ice hockey player Lude Check. You can more or less guess what I found instead. I'm too tired and disappointed that I missed him for the CPDP to be clever, so feel free to make your own "cashed his check" joke and mock my feeble intellect.

*scream* Swine Flu! Please tell me you aren't back in Austin where you would be within 500 miles of me and will no doubt spread your horrific plague to my loved ones! Hope you feel better soon, CP. I am back in Austin, but I'm feeling great now, thanks, except for a slightly irritated (as opposed to sore) throat. I kind of hope that was swine flu so that I can be immune from further outbreaks AND in a position to criticize the hype.

It comes from a message from Australia's top longevity researcher, meaning that it is most likely true.
