Maybe I've had too much to drink today, but I laughed out loud at that one... capital... didn't we used to have an applause smiley? If so, I would use it here. And I agree with the honoured Madame. If you're up to it, I can't recall hearing the custard cream story, so I too would be interested to hear it.

    The Subtle Art Of Posting

Post when you have something to say and don't when you don't, that's my motto at least. I haven't checked "top posters" in months. If I feel like posting something I say "will anyone care? Is this something that I need to say maybe just for myself?" If the answer is no to both of those questions, then I refrain. Otherwise, I post and don't really give a damn what anyone else thinks about it. Sometimes that's 5 in a day, sometimes I don't post that many in a week. When I was over thinking these things, it just made me feel like crap and made this whole forum no fun. No one here has got a 100% top post quality level, so who cares?

I think I've removed all the deceased individuals... another round of the dying to be added shortly, I hope.

    Seen Any Good Films Lately?

To me, it was a franchise that simply ran out of ideas (or couldn't be bothered), but thought there was enough pulling power left in Harrison Ford to prepare the hand-over to "Junior". It was appalling. Unless they create an original storyline, I reckon it's finished. (In my view, this offering has made their decision a little easier.) Disappointed.....as you may have guessed. I didn't dislike it as much as you two seem to have, but it was certainly lacking the charm of the first three. A lot of cheesy and/or predictable moments and it didn't seem to know what it wanted to be as a film really. Definitely should have stopped at Last Crusade. Die Hard should have stopped at three as well, and I've heard similar stories about the newest additions to the Rambo and Rocky franchises.

    Room 101

Selfish f*****g co-workers. So tomorrow is Canada Day but, because I work at a home builder's, the end of the month means that there are a lot of closings to be done, so I don't get the super long weekend (although I do get the day itself off). Once per week, I also get sent over to the law office part of the building to help them a bit. Today was that day for this week, so that I could help the conveyancers out since neither of the lawyers were there. There are two summer students, myself and this other kid, who drives a BMW and is fairly well off, compared to me who walks to work (50 mins) because I don't want to disturb my grandparents first thing in the morning (though they do give me a ride home every day). Usually I tend to be biased against rich kids, but he seemed really nice, so I figured I should grow up a bit and accept that not everyone fits the stereotype. So 2:30 rolls around (I usually leave at 4:00) and I am told that the girls at the law firm are all going home by 3:00, and that I should leave as well. I respectfully decline, saying that I have to stay until the home builder lets me go, and that it wouldn't be fair to the other kid anyways if I got to go home early and he didn't. Well five minutes later, my work roommate comes back and tells me that she checked, and the home builder people already went home 10-15 minutes ago, without so much as telling me. As if that wasn't enough, at least two people, including the other summer student, there knew that I left some of my personal affects, including my lunch bag and my runners, over at the front desk (that's the easiest place to store them, even when I'm working at the law firm) and they are now sitting there, locked up so that I can't them. I leave this stuff there every day, and probably make a bigger deal about it than I should, so they knew it was there. So now not only do I have to walk to work tomorrow in work shoes, which are going to tear apart my feet, but I have to carry my lunch to work in a plastic bag like a reject. It just grinds my gears that I was willing to stay an extra hour and a half for someone who couldn't be bothered to think of anyone other than themselves. And while some people there couldn't have possibly known, a few did, and it pisses me off that not one of them thought to make a two second call to tell me that they were all leaving. I need another drink. Maybe I'll be more coherent when I'm not so mad.

    World War I Veteran(s)

Francesco Domenico Chiarello, the second-to-last Italian veteran, has died. That leaves Delfino Borroni as the last surviving WWI veteran from that country.

Right, but he was dead before the last update, so he wasn't included.

People I Was Surprised To Find Are Still Alive

Perry turned 100 the other day. Maybe this thread can be merged somewhere else, but I figured it might be the best place to mention it. By the way, that post was almost three years ago and, out of all of them, Eaton-Travis, Lane, Kent, Perry, Bartlam (at least according to IMDb), Allan (ditto), Rainer, Stuart, Laemmle, Page, and Ros are still alive. Claverling, Oldland, Baring, Boyd, and Grey were already dead at the time of the discussion too. I just happened to be thinking about this and it happens to be exactly one year since my last update (barring the leap year) so, out of all of them, Eaton-Travis, Kent, Bartlam (apparentely she was alive at least as recently as March 2007), Allan (same caveat as last time), Rainer, Stuart, Laemmle, Page, and Ross are still alive - we only lost Lane and Perry over the year, perhaps a good survival rate given their ages.

    The Dead Of 2008

And yet still nothing for Wujcik, not even for Handy's DP (no offense intended Handy, I just mean that you're much more forgiving when it comes to obit coverage)... I'dve already had three hits on the WDP this year *blah blah blah rant rant rant* I'm still counting it as a hit in my books. On a serious note, given the amount of people, some of whom who were legitimately famous, who didn't get a mention in the Guardian this year, my opinion is that the Guardian should stay. I wouldn't say that the Guardian's obits are making things too easy, just that some people are getting lucky (myself included, if I'm not mistaken). It does publish obits for legitimate famous people who might not have otherwise gotten one.

Should He Stay Or Should He Go?

If homophobia, racism and being prejudist against the mentally challenged isn't enough for you, could we wheel in this prick-o-meter to see what it registers? (Enter Guest) Not to mention bad poetry. And stalkerish sexism, to answer the question seriously. An egregious misuse of Google translate, to answer it otherwise. I know that the things that would be solid reasons are not things that anyone involved is going to want to post in public. Again, it's all just my opinion. I highly doubt anything will come of all this.

    Nobel Prize In Death

That's a shame, he teaches at the university just a couple of miles from where I work Not anymore. On a serious note, I thought that he had been in a rest home for a few years before his death.

    World War I Veteran(s)

France has found another veteran, Fernad Goux, who is apparently not good enough to be counted officially by their government because he served less than 90 days.

Should He Stay Or Should He Go?

Not that I think that voting matters, and I do agree that this is just giving him the kind of attention he wants, but I voted to get rid of him. I couldn't give a crap less about "posting quality" or anything like that. He can ramble on until he breaks the personal post counter for all I care, for I've long since taken advantage of the "ignore this user" button. But his attitude towards the women on this forum, and some of things he has said to/about them both here and in chat are creepy, disrespectful and, quite frankly, scary and are totally out of line with the way I personally believe people should be treating others and handling sexuality. If we booted out everyone with a lot of utter shite and twunty posts, we'd be kicking out more than just BS (frankly, I'd probably be one of them). But if I can hold a symbolic protest against his some of his comments that indicate that he should be locked away permanently, I will. Just thought I'd drop in and explain my meaningless "yes" vote.

    The Canadian Paul Deadpool

It wouldn't be legit considering it's a personal sort of list, I'd think. Right, since you could claim that anyone is on that list, so it's not discriminating or verifiable. Head bounties should be fine though. Anyhow, Ray Getliffe has apparentely died of liver cancer, which I was completely unaware that he had. Site updated anyhow. From what I've heard, by the way, apparentely Emile Bouchard and the other Ted Kennedy are doing poorly, Smith is frail but otherwise hale, and the rest of the players on my theme team are sprightly for their age, except for maybe Stewart.

    Ideas And Possibilities For 2009

I claim she'll live long enough to qualify for CPDP entry, tricky one, mind, just which US and Canadian news sources will report her demise as and when. If CNN reported on her illness, I'm sure it'll report on her death, which is sufficient for the CPDP. Or you could have a Manson Family theme team and not worry about it.

    Cheeta(h) the Chimpanzee(s)

I signed. For so many reasons, I felt that it was the right thing to do. Annoying that the instructions say that you can leave out your email if you don't want the newsletter, yet the form requires it. My junk addy just got a new subscriber.

    Poolofdeath

WuJCIk has died... I suspect that I'll even have trouble getting the proper obit on Handy's much more forgiving DP... I'm not certain how the two who selected him on the DDP will fare... but if Cole Kugel got one, anything is possible.

    The Tenth 2008 Success Poll

CP: I'm dying to know why since I have him on my GG list. I pegged Bo so I'm hoping that the music trend will continue. Lots of reasons really - most crucially is that I saw him wheeled out for a PBS special about a year ago and he looked like he could have died on stage. If I'm not mistaken (which I may be), he's way outlived the average prognosis for his prostate cancer. He's a great musician (not to mention vocal artist - see the Frank Oz version of Little Shop of Horrors) and the humanitarian part of me hopes to see him end his suffering, even if it means the loss of a great artist. Not to mention that the selfish part of me stands to gain a few points on the DDP. I tend to default on picking him on these polls when I don't have a stronger feeling about anyone else. Who knows? When I was working in Canada last year, I had a three person streak on these things.

    Deathlist 2011

Could you provide a link to Grete Waitz's "blood disease"? Or Archbishop Burke' pancreatic cancer? Sorry about missing Swayze and Kennedy - forgot to add the obvious ones that have their own thread - and Clijsters I was trying to keep a secret as long as possible (despite having picked him for Pool of Death), but I've added him now. Snow, Suvaddhana, Mortimer, Havel, Birch and Gray were already on there. Saud, Gregory, Galbraith and Waitz I'm not sure about - so someone make a case. Cooksey and Burke need cites. Specter and Newman added as well. While I'm here, I was going to update the CPDP from work today (at least for Diddley and St. Laurent), but apparentely the RDP (which I've retired from) the DDP and the DL are all blocked by the company's web filter as "tasteless" and I got distracted trying to figure out how to get around it. The HDP and the CPDP, as well as I believe Handy's DP are apparentely more classy, as they are not filtered by "tasteless." Anyhow, hopefully I'll get all three updated (the others + Basrur) sometime tomorrow.
