Y'know, first thing I thought when I saw she had gone is "good, another one down & Henry moves up one". Rather worrying this behaviour, I think. Henry's officially listed at #22 now, but there's at least one older woman - Japan's oldest person, an anonymous woman, was born May 10, 1895. And that's not even counting all the "maybe" cases listed here.

I'm quite surprised, especially after reading recently that two of my Theme Team picks (Elmer Lach and Milt Schmidt) were doing as well as some of the others who were a couple of years younger. Hadn't even known that Reardon had Alzheimer's. Anyhow, site updated to reflect his death. Also, per the guest question, the site is now located at www.canadianpaul.com after some server issues. I see the main page....please to be directing me to the mentioned Hall of Rules Oops, sorry. I keep forgetting that you have to type http://www.canadianpaul.com/main.html for the version with frames.

Site updated to reflect the death of Charlton Heston. Congrats to the six players who picked him, but especially The Carking Lot, who has now taken first place in the Ordinary Team category!
-
So he is still alive. I hadn't heard anything for a long time and was a bit worried that he had died ages ago and it had slipped under the radar somehow. Thanks for that. Anyhow, I'm a bit swamped at the moment, so I probably won't get to the Heston update until Thursday. Preliminary estimates show that The Carking Lot will take the lead in the Ordinary Team category though. Well done to all those who picked him!

I'm sticking with Stubbs for the time being. It's complicated.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CR! -
I bring this up because it has potential DDP consequences. If Erich Kästner was the last German veteran of World War I, doesn't that mean Bleicher, who served as a private during the conflict, is dead?
-
Only a month late with that one eh? Her successor, Kaku Yamanaka, died today, however, which is probably what you were referring to.
-
UK obit, important not because someone picked him on the DDP, but because it seems to indicate that (along with the last few WWI vet obits) most of the remaining WWI vets will get a mention somewhere in the UK press.

The UK's oldest person turns 112 and is the only one who stands in the way of Henry Allingham being crowned the UK's oldest person.

I'm not sure if he's alive or not, since the last interview was from 2001, but I couldn't pass up NASCAR driver Dick Passwater

I shot of an email and asked him if there would be a competition next year (as well as sending a team just in case) and have yet to get a response... -

Oooh, I'm so far behind on this. Let me wish HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAYS to BHB AND THE MISER Hopefully you can figure out which one is intended for who. It's not exactly easy running a search that involves the words "sexy" and "Miser". -
We can call it the annual Maryport Trophy.

Oh, I didn't realise that. I couldn't find it. So if you can give me a link to this list, I'll look at it. The first post in the series is here, but now that I've seen it again for the first time in almost two years, it's not very helpful at all. Aside from being two years out of date and spread across multiple pages of the thread, it doesn't list their ages and lists EVERYONE who's still living who won the award, without discriminating for health or even age. But it might be a good place to start, since it does give you lists with the deceased ones eliminated. Perhaps you can produce something along the lines of 'arry's list of colourful, but old Nobel laureates. Academy Award winners, like Nobels, are all but guaranteed an appropriate obit.

Well call me a monkey's retarded uncle. I'm not sure if this counts though.

Erm........................ how do you know GR's a bloke? I could make some long-winded argument about how I cleverly deduced from months of careful inspection of all his comments on the site... or I could point out that he's clicked "male" on his profile, so I'm off the hook if I'm wrong. Or were you referring to the more philosophical question of how can we "know" anything? -

I was hoping to find a good story on it, but apparently 77 isn't a newsworthy birthday, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHATNER! And happy 96th to Karl Malden! -
That's quite surprising. From being photographed around her 114 birthday (a couple months before I think - the picture has been on the front page of Robert Young's group for a while now), she looked like she could have passed for 80, and a healthy one at that. Still, third in the world and oldest nowhere but Texas. I'd be surprised if she got national coverage in the United States, never mind the UK.

I mentioned here why I think Robert F. Boyle will make it to 100. Luise Rainer was not only doing, but looking, fantastic a year ago, though I admit I haven't heard anything lately. Pollack is the obvious choice, but I think a long time ago someone made a list of all the living 80 or 85+ Academy Award Winners. Probably some good ones there if you've got the time to sift...

Happy Belated Grim Reaper! For the boss man, only the best: You know, with fewer and fewer women having birthdays these days, I'm starting to feel like quite the objectifier. Ah well.
