For once I'm going with the majority: Al Megrahi.
-
He has been fairly ill lately, perhaps a bit moreso than other people his age, and he couldn't make the Happy Days reunion in 2005. Without any specifics, it's a bit of a crap shoot I guess, but it's more likely than say, Kirk Douglas or Eli Wallach, both of whom are out and about. I didn't know that Molinaro was that well known in the UK though.

dead Laurent Fignon
Canadian Paul replied to harrymcnallysblueandwhitearmy's topic in DeathList Forum
According to this report in French, his tumours have regressed 17%, but he's not yet in remission. I personally left him off my list but I'm crap at cases like this, so I think that he rounds out the DL list nicely. He might see 2011 or even some cancer-free news, but he's not there yet. -
Where it promptly directed itself to the Junk folder ... Why is that? I have no idea...are you a spammer? I guess so. Although if you're program got an entry from CarolAnn, then I can see why it might be suspicious of anything from Texas.

Just submitted my team with about an hour to go. Left out some riskier picks like Ethan Zohn (seems to be cancer-free), Jenn Lyon, Moe Benoit, Jim Stynes, Paul Quarrington, Nick Charles, John Shelton Wilder (low chance of obit), Laurent Fignon and Jose Alencar (cancers stable or in remission), which has unfortunately left me with a lot of old people... guess I wasn't feeling much into risk taking. I even put my joker on Rubinstein. Happy New Year everyone!
-
Oh shit, now he tells me..... Glad I've waited to submit my team, aren't you happy? I think I deserve some bonus points to start off.
-
Just submitted my entry: the seven people who have continued to breathe on my dream team for quite some time, along with three newcomers. My email will change in March, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
-
Is this a good theme team obit? Indeed it is, therefore the site has been updated. Well done to Devon Death Trip! Next up, entering the HDP...
-
Well the rules say: "'Obituary' simply means an article which mentions the fact that the person has died. It doesn't have to be the conventional biographical write-up." One last tough one for OoO to call before he leaves, a call that may define his very legacy. Does the page qualify as an "article" or not? Tune in next week...
-
Happy Holidays y'all! Turns out that unique pick Tim Hart didn't quite make Christmas, but even a theme team obit is yet to be available. Once it becomes so, I will update the site for his death, along with that of Edward Schillebeeckx.

Birthdays, Births, Anniversaries, etc... for 2009
Canadian Paul replied to football_fan's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I already said it on Facebook, but I'll say it again. Happy birthday CarolAnn! -
I'm still contemplating who should have the luxury of being my joker candidate. I vow to never have a list with a joker who sees the year through. After reading that Megrahi is now finally "living up to expectations" I'm kind of keeping my fingers crossed that he breaths until 2010. We will see what happens. Too late for that for me, thanks to Harold Pinter, but I did tell myself no more picking terminally ill people who would benefit from getting out of jail as my joker... worried about Susan Atkins for too long... still, she did die, so perhaps I can renege... It is looking more likely that he won't last long, however, as he'd probably be better served by laying low and out of media attention now rather than pretending to worsen...

Per the suggestion of several individuals, I've added Ronnie James Dio... I missed him because a) He has his own thread, which I didn't really check for and I'm really rooting for him to beat this and, for the latter reason, I've placed him in Famous but Risky. I won't be putting him on my list, but that probably means that he should go on everyone else's, after my record at guessing who's "really" terminally ill last year. It definitely wouldn't be a dumb pick.

Here we go for this year. The following people and their illnesses/frailties are listed in full detail in the first post of this thread. To allow for ease of review by the DL committee, I have divided them into four categories and left only their names. More information can be found in the first post. Anyone's free to yell and scream at me to move people around, as it's all very subjective. Also, "questionable fame" does not mean that I think the person isn't "famous". Rather, it corresponds to whether or not I think the person will get a proper UK obit. For reference, two days short of a year from the last list: 10 of 29 (Birch, Hopper, Eunice and Edward Kennedy, Novak, Pavle, Richard, Robson, Swayze, Tsien) from Famous Enough and Sick Enough are dead and all got suitable DDP/DL obits. 12 of 115 (Blackham, Dean, Fawcett, Ginzburg, Goody, Ludovic Kennedy, Levi-Strauss, Llewellyn, Mortimer, Roberts, Sundaravej, Upward) from Famous Enough but Risky are dead. I believe that all got suitable DDP/DL obits... not sure about Blackham... 6 of 35 (Atkins, Dunne, Ejercito, Frenzel, Krulak, Xianlin) from Questionable Fame but Sick Enough are dead. Frenzel was already long dead, which speaks to his fame, and I think that of the others, only Atkins and Dunne got the obits. 7 of 44 (Ayala, Clijsters, Keel, Knoxall, Seals, Sutton, Triola) from Questionable Fame and Risky are dead. I think about half got obits... Knoxall certainly did not. So with all that, here's my analysis for next year: Famous Enough and Sick Enough: Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi José Alencar Muhammad Ali Ronnie Biggs Jane Campbell, Baroness Campbell of Surbiton Basil D'Oliveira Peter Falk Laurent Fignon Michael Foot (maybe not sick enough, but who can risk missing out on the obvious tagline here???) Betty Ford David Hart Ernie Harwell Stephen Hawking Johannes Heesters Raymond Hewlett Dennis Hopper Ray Kennedy Jack Kyle Peter MacBeth Simon MacCorkindale Edwin Morgan Roy Morrison Donald Neilson Nancy Reagan Yitzhak Shamir Ariel Sharon Sargent Shriver Mike Soper Adolfo Suarez Margaret Thatcher (maybe not as sick as most, but certainly wouldn't be a good one to miss) Abigail Van Buren Nicholas Winton Norman Wisdom Famous Enough but Risky: Steven Adler Paul Allen Patty Andrews Shoko Asahara Richard Attenborough HRH Jean Benoit Guillaume Robert Antoine Louis Marie Adolphe Marc d'Aviano Seve Ballesteros Bob Barker Martin Bashir Captain Beefheart Melissa Bell Jean-Paul Belmondo Nursat Bhutto Lionel Blue Ian Brady Algirdas Brazauskas Asa Briggs Ivor Broadis Elliott Carter Fidel Castro Frederick Chiluba Jacques Chirac Ronald Coase Winston Churchill Natalie Cole Robbie Coltrane Don Cornelius Liz Dawn Del Deanus John Demjanjuk Phyllis Diller Ronnie James Dio Fats Domino Kirk Douglas Roy Douglas Duke of Wellington Roger Ebert Blake Edwards John Edrich Eddie Fisher Andy Fordham Annette Funicello Zsa Zsa Gabor Seán Garland Terri Garr Paul Gascoigne Vo Nguyen Giap Miep Gies Ruth Bader Ginsburg Billy Graham Bryant Gumbel Larry Hagman Johnny Hallyday Abu Hamza al-Muhajir David Hasselhoff Václav Havel João Havelange Alex Higgins Lena Horne Ian Huntley Alan Igglesden Ronald Isley Warren Jeffs Frank Kelly Moss Keane Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Abdul Qadeer Khan Edgar Ray Killen B.B. Birthdays, Births, Anniversaries, etc... for 2009
Canadian Paul replied to football_fan's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Wow, I've missed so many birthdays lately... busy, busy, busy... anyhow... HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY TO BOU, VSB, ANUBIS, AND ANYONE ELSE I MISSED!!!! -
Well it doesn't really need to be updated, since it doesn't affect the final score, but it did need to be updated for Jennifer Jones, which I have, so well done to you!
-
She had the tumour removed in October and has no radiation or chemo. I guess that's a good thing?
-
Recovering, but slowly.
-
Halsey still having a tough time of his cancer fight.
-
Gene Barry died on the 9th of December 2009. So his name should be deleted as well. Removed, along with Vitaly Ginzburg and Samak Sundaravej, who died in November. I also removed a couple names of that had been previously discussed as healthy, as well as Maggie Smith who has beaten breast cancer. The only other big health update was Tuli Kupferberg, who is nearly blind and required 24-hour care. Now that I've done that, I'll be updating this list with new suggestions throughout the day and I'll note my progress in this post. Apparently I'm starting all the way at August 23... Edit: Now done. Today or tomorrow I'll put up the yearly "four categories" list for everyone to discuss/comment on.
-
I'll update the CPDP (and this post) for Gene Barry probably tomorrow. EDIT: Site now updated. Well done to The Unknown Man's Horsemen of Apocalypse.
-
Site updated to reflect the death of Richard Todd. Well done to Octopus of Odsotck!
-
I'm actually against this bonus... I feel that the game should be determined more on skill of choice than random events (accidents and overdoses excepted)... after all, a person who picks several troubled young actors who overdosed shouldn't be ranked lower than someone who picks a bunch of cancer-ridden oldsters who happen to die at the "right" time. Of course I'm being a bit hypocritical given the CPDP rules, but overall I feel that the more random events you have, the more likely someone is going to get edged out for no other reason than they died on an arbitrary date.

I've only just twigged, he was one my hits on my Morecambe and Wise Theme Team! Whoops, I completely missed that one. I'll have it updated tonight or (more likely) tomorrow. Looks like you're already better at this "running a deadpool" thing than I am TMIB, and you haven't even started. EDIT: Now updated. Well done TMIB!
