Procter was a Gloucestershire legend in the 70s along with Zaheer Abbas. I saw him play at the end of his career, but I think his main heroics were during the early 70s, especially the 1973 Gillette Cup victory. -

I remember in the 90s there was saturation coverage of this case in UK media and it was strange because nobody really knew who he was or why it was relevant to us. Even now he is probably more famous for orange juice.

My money's on stage 1 or 2 bowel cancer. He has been eating lots of red meat at banquets for his whole life, it must have taken its toll. He also looks a bit thinner, which is a symptom of bowel cancer.

It says he was shaking hands with people and embracing them. Not sure that was entirely wise given his condition and compromised immunity. In any case I hope he makes a better choice of doctors than he did of romantic partners in his life.
