Indeed, he's well done for. regards, Hein

Sounds like he's pope material. Oh wait... regards, Hein

After hits with Kim père et fils I think it's only fitting to give heir presumptive Kim Jong-un a topic of his own. He may be Jong and wealthy, he's also fat, young and unhealthy. As I understand it, there are several other relatives who may want to try and seize power, so his life may not be safe. regards, Hein

The Deathlist Christmas Special!
Magere Hein replied to Lady Die's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Cheers, it's quite a relief. I wish all DL members and readers a happy Christmas, Yule, Hanukkah, Sol Invictus, or whatever you celebrate in this time of year. Even if you don't, you may still enjoy food, drink and a jolly good argument with the in-laws. regards, Hein -
And the suspense. If there is an afterlife, would there be a special place for Nazi-sympathising operetta singers? While each of these sins forms just a flaw in one's life, the combination is pretty close to a crime against humanity. regards, Hein
-
The suspense is killing me. German weeky Stern wrote about our hero five hours ago: or in English: It's difficult to predict, but as long as his health doesn't deteriorate, there's still hope. Edit to add: suddenly I see the light of the blindingly obvious: he'll cark it at Christmas. I can already imagine the headlines. He's always been an attention whore. regards, Hein

I agree Van Lennep is a dodgy pick. I did have a look at Van Rossem, for reasons of being fat, a bloke, 68 and (for me) well known for his shouting "Vive la République d'Europe! Vive Lahaut!" at the coronation of Baudouin of Belgium. I wasn't aware of his F1 "carreer". I wonder if his death will be noted in the English speaking world. BTW, I have a few more candidates whom I won't discuss, as I have high hopes for unique picks. Oh, TMIB, if I choose the same pick on both my team and my theme team and nobody else does, it's not a unique pick, right? regards, Hein
-
Almost. Would Low Life be catchy enough? Some of the picks I'm considering: Albert II of Belgium Dries van Agt Raymond van Barneveld Beatrix of the Netherlands Dick Bruna Mark Eyskens Fabiola of Belgium Jopie Heesters Piet de Jong Gijs van Lennep (probably not obit-worthy and quite healthy) Jean of Luxembourg Eddy Merckx Toots Thielemans Gerard Tieman Martin Veltman Joop Zoetemelk regards, Hein

De(ath) Lage Landen? Not bad. My best idea was along the lines of: below sealevel, below groundlevel. I still have some time to think it over. regards, Hein

The Fringes Of Fame/family Of The Famous

I don't think so. ISTM she's a tough old boot. That clip linked, at the end, to an (go to 0'18'' to skip the commercial) she gave about her code breaking work at Bletchley Park. She did more to win the war than many a soldier. Respect. regards, Hein -

Ooh, two US bankers (Rakesh Chawla and Jeffrey Buckalew) die in a plane crash, if I read this story correctly. Believers might interpret this incident as a message from their god(s). regards, Hein

I'm working on a Low Countries theme team. It's not at all easy to find picks who'll pass the obit requirements. I also need a catchy name. regards, Hein

My guess is that one is the "Any One Beatle" pick.Quite right. And is that also the "Other" in the gender category? If so, it should really be male as all the Beatles are/were men. My thinking was: the Beatles were a collective, for which gender has no meaning. In a similar vein I classified Red Rum as "Horse" rather than male. The latter would not be completely accurate. Edit to add: while reading about that horse, I learned that Rummy's trainer Ginger McCain died just three months ago. The fact was mentioned in the forum, but I never made the connection. He would have been a fitting DL candidate. regards, Hein

That article: Translation: Difficult to assess this one. No medical details and a news agency that, according to their website, has been active for less than 4 months. I could be wrong, but this sounds a bit dodgy. Mr Heesters will be on my DDP MMXII team, though, if he makes it to 2012. I think he's on final and I'm confident UK news sources will oblige when his time comes. regards, Hein

Brilliant! Defending a ball towards the goal is a bloody stupid idea, but it's brilliantly executed. regards, Hein

My spreadsheet did indeed contain several errors, now corrected. Thank you. List updated. Here are a few facts and statistics I compiled from it: Total number of candidates: 421 Dead 304 Alive 116 Other 1 Male 353 Female 66 Horse 1 Other 1 Picked while dead: 1989 Wilfred Bramble, William Hartnell 1992 Arthur Marshall, Bette Davis 1994 Bette Davis regards, Hein

May I humbly suggest Kim Jong-un for inclusion? Not only do we need another Kim, I can easily imagine his demise in a North Korean power struggle or palace revolution. He also doens't look as healthy as a 28 y/o should. regards, Hein
