Congrats for those who guessed Schmidt right. Topic closed.

Now I have an answer to that, because yes, doctors are meant to keep the secrets of their patients, but according to this article: https://de.nachrichten.yahoo.com/helmut-schmidt-nur-sehr-selten-060948711.html(german link) Schmidt's daughter has given his personal doctor the permission to talk. He says that in the past two days, Schmidt has only rarely been conscious. Schmidt "should be moved to a hospital" but it was his wish to stay at home. Also, asked whether Schmidt would ever recover again, he says "No, sadly I don't believe that." Thanks for the update. Things look grim indeed. I can't read the interview in the Hamburger Abendblatt, but in the assumption that de.nachrichten.yahoo.com didn't make it all up, this sounds very much like Schmidt's Schluss.

It seemed such a good idea at the time.

Let me think about that...

That was a biggie at the time, got lots of attention in the press and on the box.

Belgian actress Dora van der Groen died yesterday, aged 88.

Factual correction: it was deleted by a moderator. That makes no difference: this admin fully supports that moderator's action.

The Süddeutsche Zeitung is a quality newspaper. They quote the Hamburger Abendblatt, of which I know nothing. The article there is behind a pay wall.

Yes, it's fine.

I wonder why the other 39 states and the rest of the world don't need excellence. I guess they're already excellent! Sounds right.

MPFC, I see you've added a second copy of the glorious view to your .sig, which lives on another server: <start> Maryport is a disappointment for which there is no cure, but the annual Deathrace thread hereabouts provides welcome distraction. <end> I'm posting this (and viewing the forum) from an I.E. 11.0.9600.171728 at the public library. The image at postimg.org shows fine, the one at imageshack.us not. When I load the image at imageshack.us using the URL directly, it does show after some time, and after that also in your .sig. I suspect that the server at imageshack answers download requests sluggishly and that I.E. gives up after some time. It's happy to show the picture from its cache though, once it´s there. ISTM no further action is required.

Today in 1977 French comics editor and writer René Goscinny died at age 51. Presumably he's best known for his collaboration on Asterix, with Albert Uderzo, who is still infesting the world with new Asterix comics of no particular entertainment value. Ils sont fous ces français.

Is Deathlist Too Permissive Of Banter/abuse Of Posters?
Magere Hein replied to Deathray's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
But none of them members, AFAIK. -
In the late 1980s several Dutch ''hogescholen'' (universities with only one or two faculties) were renamed university. The Katholieke Hogeschool Tilburg (now Tilburg University, in foreign, the people who think that a good idea ought to be flogged in public) was renamed Katholieke Universiteit Brabant for a similar reason. You're going to have to enlighten me on why the names are such a bad idea? Kut is Dutch for cunt. It would seem Katholieke Hogeschool Tilburg was to become Katholieke Universiteit Tilburg (I think). Is the right answer.

I´m pretty sure a report of how Geert Wilders contracted HIV while shagging Pim Fortuyn will go down well with Dutch Googlers.

Mod/Admin status is forever, although it can be (and has been) removed for bad behaviour. As a result we have several non-active members with such a status. They don't draw a salary. We're not.

Those are several different questions. Did those concentration camp guards have a choice? Yes they did, when they joined the SS (concentration camps were run exclusively by the SS). At one time they must have applied for the job and they must have known that those places weren't for entertainment. Whether it's fair to go after them after all those years: difficult to say. There's no statute of limitation on war crimes for political reasons, reasons I appreciate. Actually trying those men doesn't seem to serve justice, though.
