    José Mujica

Thought this was significant from the article: As for the fight against cancer, Pannone said that “there is no evidence of the tumor,” but clarified that this “does not mean a definitive cure.” Thus, the former president is in a period of remission and must wait more time and new studies for the doctors to give him the final discharge.

    The Chequered Flag

Alan Rees also died yesterday. A very fine racer and former Grand Prix driver, he was the last living founder of March and also worked at Shadow and was a founder at Arrows. The AR in March and Arrows was due to his initials. I'd only learned this last week that he was very poorly. Up to a few years ago (2020/2021) he was still okay.

    The Chequered Flag

Paul Goldsmith has now died. He died earlier today. Full link to follow but the poster on Facebook is linked to the airport and can be vouched for from a motorsport background.

    Oldest Living football league players

Mike Tomkys looks extremely well, now aged 91. Said to be QPRs oldest living player. I'm not so sure, I make him 3rd oldest. https://x.com/ChrisGuyW12/status/1831691708649603177?t=1lN8pG1O0i0fgnSAA6yFEw&s=19

    Hospitalised!

Rupert Keegan (Wiki) has been hospitalised in a seriously ill condition in an Italian hospital and is now receiving palliative care. Suspect we are looking at days or a fortnight max unfortunately.

Just to confirm: Ron Harbertson Grimsby and Reg Pearce Luton are definitely alive. Cecil Law (Derby) is possibly the oldest but no news on him recently.

    Nope to all three!

    Derby Dead Pool 2024

Does the site actually need obit writing? It's great what you do, but I think it can function well without it. Maybe a monthly (or bi-weekly) brief round up might work better than obits?

    The Chequered Flag

Looking at the non linked drivers, there aren't any names that immediately stand out as being around. Haven't checked the linked names but Hans Herrmann is still around if he was there.

Terrific player, very underrated indeed and one of the best defenders in the Championship over the last 15 years. Terrible news. Played for Sven with Ivory Coast and apparently was Erikssons first signing at Leicester and now both are gone within a week.

    Political Frailty

Gavron's widow, Nicky Gavron, herself notable as she was deputy mayor of London to Ken Livingstone for 8 years, has died, aged 82. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thesun.co.uk/news/30190156/london-deputy-mayor-nicky-gavron-dies/amp/

Authors Last A Long Time, But....

Odd, works for me. Search for Graham Caveney and remission in Google and the link should come up. Ignore the paid Times and Irish Times links and it should be 4th or 5th link.

Authors Last A Long Time, But....

This from the Times (a non pay walled version) explains a little bit more. I guess the book itself reveals even more. https://reader.exacteditions.com/issues/117138/page/11

No Wiki page for him, but Bobby Tebbutt, former Northampton Town striker, died in June, aged 89. Last survivor from their win over Arsenal in 1958 and he scored the first goal in a 3-1 win. https://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/sport/football/cobblers-pay-tribute-to-bobby-tebbutt-following-his-death-4686398

Actually died on Thursday. If you didn't know he had cancer, you would've been surprised by his death as he looked quite well in the last picture of him on his sons Facebook post. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/UZnqrtQ8HrfSt7aK/ I'm sure an official obit is on its way, probably just because it's the weekend.

    Who are the immortals?

As just posted in the cycling thread, Procter has died today.

    Professional Cyclists

Peter Procter, picked in quite a few DP's I believe, died earlier today. There will be a proper obituary on its way soon from either the BRDC or one of the cycling websites. I had a lot of correspondence with him between 2020 and 2023 and he was a very nice man. RIP.

Cheers, I found this recently and sent to Hugmans, apologies I didn't follow it up here.

    Ideas and possibilities for 2025

I noticed this yesterday. So is that confirmed she's not DDP-able, because I'll remove her from the shortlist as quickly as she was added.
