  1. Paul Hunter is in the World Championship today. He looks far from his old self, but I'm somewhat staggered that's he's there at all. I read a report about three weeks ago, and I think the summary of it was he's winning, at the moment, what really is an almighty battle.

  2. Well, I did look at Wiki, as well as groliers, biography, and whitehouse/history. No soap. These two women are seriously under the radar. Also, where did OoO find that name for Agnew?

Google is your friend. Not to mention Spiro Agnew's entry on Wikipedia!

Mondale lives in Japan with husband Walter, in case anyone should give a damn.

  3. Jean Stapleton - I had a dream last night where she was listed on Wikipedia's recent deaths. Since Meinhardt Raabe is still alive though, I wouldn't put too much credence on that fact.

If Don Knotts got an obituary in the UK <_< , Jean Stapleton will. Maybe you were looking at last month's page, and you went to bed thinking of Maureen Stapleton. :o

I, too have had a dream concerning Raabe's death. However, last night I had a dream Harry Patch had died. I've also had dreams about Ronnie Biggs death. I also have just one lousy hit on the DDP, and that was only because it was a certainty!:lol: I don't think my choices & my dreams can be taken all that seriously.

  4. Okay, I found this thread in the last pages and thought I'd appropriate it to aski:

Does anyone know whether former socialites Judy Agnew and Joan Mondale are still alive?

    Yes. They are.

It's Elinor Judefind Agnew, by the way.

  5. Happy birthday ie+!

It turns out, apparentely, that there are just no sexy people born on April 15th.

I agree, from a male ogling point of view, Claudia Cardinale wins hands down. Although CP has also greviously snubbed Lois Chiles &

    lois_chiles_gallery_5.jpg,

    Stacey Williams

98_swilliams_02.jpgas not sexy enough!!!!!! ! Shame on you CP, these girls will be crying tonight.

But, I don't think ie+ is all that interested in Claudia Cardinale, so sexy April 15th people for ie+'s pleasure (Gosh, I hope I've got this right.... )

  6. name='Guest':- It's much more tedious to read four pages on this argument.

He is already a registered member. That guest was Rotten Ali, who probably forgot to log in

That's odd. Rotten Ali is moaning about how tedious it is to read about an argument on famousness, yet he's the one who's brought it up at least twice & re-ignited the argument.

I think what we have now (ie right now) is fine. The nobodies ARE being put in the right thread by Iain, at last.

Besides, to check if someone was in the DDP, we'd have to go to that site, see if they're there, then go back again, THEN post. (unless you know, off by heart, every single nominee  ) That's too long-winded for me.

I'm bored now of this argument & even more bored that no-one on my DDP team or shortlist is dying. Buggers.

  7. there is only one person that was on the titanic that is still alive thou i 4got her name lol

me and my friend tracey are obsevie with the titanic so thats how we know look it up on google or ask jeeves titanic happend like 4 years b4 war

    Hmmm...

You can't be that obessive. (I'm not aware of a word obsevie, but I guess that's what you meant )

One, the Titanic sank 2 years before World War 1, which I believe is the war you are referring to.

Two, as pointed out numerous times here, there are three survivors. I did look it up, as you pointed out, and just to ram it home here are the three you "4got" (Is the above a text or a proper post?)

There are three known survivors of the 706 who survived the RMS Titanic disaster which sank on April 15, 1912 after striking an iceberg in the North Atlantic Ocean. They are Lillian Gertrud Asplund, Barbara West Dainton, and Milvina Dean.

I suggest you obsess some more & try & find a dictionary whilst you're at. And $10 to go on a new Titanic sounds bloody cheap to me, so what's stopping you?

  8. How about (Why am I even getting involved again?):

If one of us (members/mods/guests) has heard of them and they're not too niche (ie Mayor of Benidorm - very familiar to me, but only me on this board), near misses.

Otherwise, leave it for Iain to post in Not Famous but...

    Can't ask fairer than that.

  9. I watched "Comedy Connections " on BBC1 last night & the featured show was "To the Manor Born." Not only was I astonished that the vicar on it was still alive, but he was only in his early 50's when they filmed it. (late '70's)

His name is Gerald Sim, and he's now 81. Looked quite good for his age, but then as he looked old early, he hasn't really changed, a la Clive Dunn. Then, to complete, my hat-trick of surprises, I found out he has an extensive film career as well!

    char_rector.jpg

See what I mean - this was from about 1979, 1980 - looks late 60's at least!

  10. Firstly, George Lineker is the younges

Aye, for nostalgia reasons, I was wondering why AdC was there, but I suppose if you had to choose anyone GP driver, then de Crasheris was a good one. Let's not forget that whilst it is rare today to see F1 drivers killed, but back thenElio de Angelis had died the year before and Stefan Bellof & Manfred Winkelhock in 1985 so I can see the thinking..

One that interested me for its' complete strangeness:

    Leo Beenhakker, in 1991.

All the others I can understand (as Anne Kirkbride was ill etc. - I can't ever remember LB being ill, and in late 1990, he was Ajax manager. Not a particulary dangerous profession...

Yes, from 1997 onwards, it really appears more "professional".

  11. Does anybody (barring US farmers) really give a damn about the US agriculture secretary.

Stick to the Cabinet big shots, not these bunch of nobodys.

Point of order...many of them would fulfill the DDP qualification of getting a UK obit.

Err.. I don't think nearly any of them would, unless the current one dropped dead. Point of order.. Mitchell Sharp, the ex-Canadian Foreign Minister, which is quite a notable role, got NO BBC mention & only one obituary, one week after his death, back in 2004. I consider Sharp to be at the same level of "famousness" as these.

These people, in the UK, are true nobodies. Here, no-one's ever heard of them, no-one will miss them, no-one cares. Some of the more "controversial" or "long-stayers" might, but it isn't a given.

  12. Watching Carlisle take on Rochdale and Bristol Rovers away and Notts County at home. If results go our way - 7 wins in the last seven in the league - we could be assured of automatic promotion by the end of these games and almost assured of the League Two title.

Pah... What took you so long  I'll be watching Reading v Stoke at home on Monday - title is already ours, the only thing we have to go for is two all-time league records, that's all - not much to play for.... ;)

    (seriously though, well done Carlisle!)

Aside from that, nothing. Is Easter supposed to be a holiday period as opposed to a weekend, then? I'm working either side of it & as it means nothing to me, I doubt I'll be doing much on the day itself...

  13. Aye, there was one fake one - a "trance vocalist", but when you googled, it showed no hits at all. Anyway, other sites have now reported Gray's death. But that "Citation Needed" on Wiki is worth looking out for before anyone plunges ahead.

Anyway, Gerard Reve, the famous Dutch author, is dead.

  14. Defense

    1. Donald Rumsfeld (G.W. Bush)

    2. William Cohen (Clinton)

    8. Robert McNamara (Kennedy/Johnson)

Somebody said that Defense Secretaries are well known in Europe. I'm curious if that is

I've only heard of the above three. The first two 'cos they're recent, the last one 'cos he's on the DDP. Not exactly a ringing endorsement...

For a British site, why aren't you doing the same lists, but for UK politicians? Or is that to come?

  15. Lynne Perrie's funeral doesn't provide much interest for DL'rs but Paul Shane is looking a bit rough. Probably not known outside Britain, but obese, mid 60's, he's been my outside DDP bet for some while, but I don't have the courage.. yet.. to move him up. But looking at him at this funeral, well who knows?

One more comment - her son & her husband look the same age!
