Warren Buffett, billionaire financier, is recently widowed and getting on in years (not sure how old exactly but his wife's obituary mentioned they were married in 1952). As has been pointed out before the loss of a spouse is a major stressor. At any rate I'm putting his name in for 2005.

Now that the US has handed Iraq over to Prime Minister Iyad Allawi, what are his odds of living to see 2005? What form will the first attempt take, and when? I'm guessing... truck bomb, late August.

Or "Do ghosts keep goats?" And if so how do they milk them? And do they give evaporated milk?

I think the important thing is to always carry a bucket. And the second most important point would be to make sure it's a nanny goat.

Born in Tennessee, USA. It's a good place to leave, so I did.

Another near miss for the PM.

I doubt any of them is in any immediate danger; Mr. Clinton of course has had some rather well-reported health problems but seems to be on the mend.

Andrea Dworkin, writer. No cause of death listed, and she was only 58. I'm thinking suicide. She was ailing but not as far as I know with anything considered life threatening.

Well, er... God save the queens!

Saul Bellow, wordsmith.

Yes. To the best of my knowledge it's the only recreational substance from which sudden withdrawal can be fatal. SO, anyone know any famous alcoholics likely to go cold turkey?

During the Watergate investigations, a White House insider who refused to go on the record met with Woodward and/or Bernstein, usually in underground parking garages and other mysterious dark places. He was male (obvoiusly), well spoken, a heavy smoker (which I think disqualifies Mr. Ford but I can't be sure). He was also willing to bring down the Nixon administration due to what he perceived as malfeasance at the highest levels. There's a short list of survivors who qualify on all counts. It will be interesting to find out the truth, perhaps this year.

Same; but then, I'm sane.

Would it even be possible?

If it's either the Babe or the babe (from the Bible), we know. Don't be ruthless, fill us in.

Spencer Dryden, Jefferson Airplane drummer. Not sure he passes the fame test, but should have been apparent anyway.
