I've heard Jerry Springer joke that he left the U.K. for America when he found out he couldn't become king; he never mentioned he couldn't become POTUS though.

Fish, chips and carrots. Mmmm, lovely. Reminds me of chef Graham who ran our works canteen back in the late 70s. There was a choice of three or four varying main courses and a similar number of vegetables every day, together with the ever present chips. Fish was only on the menu on Fridays but not peas as the latter had appeared on the menu twice earlier in the week. So with your fish and chips you could have cabbage, carrots, leeks and swede but not peas.

Sir, You are a dedicated Deathlister. You make a post and where relevant, provide a link across the forums to give credit to other people where it's due because you have done a search. Many times I have read your posting of a death in an obscure forum where it's the only mention of that name and quoted the poster; that is beyond admirable. With monotonous regularity, you make an original death post only for someone to come along later and try to steal your thunder. Guest above is the latest example of this. I remain etc, Cat.

    Death Anniversary Thread

Actress and inventress Hedley Hedy Lamarr died on 19th January 2000 aged 85. At the beginning of World War II, Lamarr along with composer George Antheil, developed a radio guidance system for Allied torpedoes, using spread spectrum and frequency hopping technology to defeat the threat of jamming by the Axis powers. She is probably best remembered for being a U.S. State Attorney General.

    The Weather

Here in Leicester, the first night of the winter when the birdbath in the garden froze over was a couple of nights ago. It wasn't a hard frost though, the ice was about one millimetre thick and broke to the slightest touch.
