So one of your footballing heroes dies at a sadly early age, and you naturally feel the need to pay a fitting tribute to him. Do you: ( a ) Go to Anfield and observe a minute's silence? ( b ) Place flowers on his grave? ( c ) Come onto an Internet forum, swearing uncontrollably like a Tourette's sufferer and making pointless threats against people you'll never meet? RIP Emlyn - a man of far more intelligence, humour and dignity than most of his fans, it would seem.

That's definitely something I've noticed over the past few months as well. It's rare that someone comes along and says they're offended by this forum without resorting to swearing, hurling random insults, and making numerous elementary spelling and grammatical mistakes. Dare I suggest that there is, in general, a correlation between a person's level of intelligence and whether or not he/she appreciates (or at least doesn't have a kneejerk reaction against) black humour??

I do believe that 'pedofile' is the correct American spelling. But no-one said he was anyway...

Serious Contenders for Next Years List
Rude Kid replied to Death Watch Beatle's topic in DeathList Forum
That Moscow letter's a true classic! And in the 'two nations divided by a common language' category, we have this young lady - last column, 5th photo down: http://www.electraisd.net/alumni/1993_seniors.htm -
Seems a bit random...I wonder who asked him for a quote, and why?
-
Yeah, yeah. "I found this site by accident, and I'm so appalled by it that I just have to keep reading it, and I've already posted 2 self-righteous messages, and now I'm off to read and post some more, God this is so sick..."
-
Yep, a genuine shocker alright. I was just listening to his Home Truths programme a couple of weeks ago, and he sounded on top form as usual. Disclaimer: I'm not a regular Radio 4 listener, honest...

Nah, ol' Rolf did a cover version of it, but he apparently didn't write it: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/soldonsong/son.../stairway.shtml

Hey GR, have you been thinking that ever since I said the exact same thing on the 18th June??
-
Earl, since you always seem to follow up your initial post on any given thread with a second (, third etc...) one demanding our approval of it, here you go: Woooo, Earl! Alriiiight! You da man!! Well done, nice one, way to go!!! (Feel free to copy & paste into future threads as required)

Would that be Carlos the Jackal? Anyway, I've nicked it from him for the DDP homepage now.
-
I refer the honourable gentleman to my earlier answer on this very thread regarding the DDP's definition of 'fame'. It's not perfect, but I still haven't heard a better one...any suggestions welcome.
-
Damn, you lot are too fast! Just logged on to say BBC radio have just reported his death, and 3 people have beaten me to it.
-
Hey, enough already! My fellow organiser Mr Baboon and I were out on the beers last night, and I was in no fit state to update the site when I got home. Anyway, as you can see... Scoreboard ...the DL team now has 7 hits, just 2 short of the all-time DDP record. With the best part of 3 months to go, that target's looking very achievable.
-
Surely you mean the frailty of Otis' remaining picks? Good point though - we haven't got a rule to decide ties. Maybe highest number of hits, and if that's equal as well, then lowest average age of hits? Hell, it's all academic anyway - there ain't no prize as such!
-
Site just updated - it's now: 1st Otis 30 points 2nd Deathlist.net 25 points ...but Otis has Biggs as a non-joker, so if he goes, you'll both be on 35. It's too close to call!
-
Update on JL - there was a small article in tonight's paper saying he's not doing too well and is about to give his farewell performance.

Brian Clough quotes "If God wanted us to play football in the air, he'd have built a pitch in the clouds". Well Cloughie, you're about to find out whether he did or not. Seriously though, top bloke. Never afraid to speak his mind and ruffle a few feathers.

Ebb and Curtains, I ask you! What an absolute gift that guy was for the headline writers.

If you're names not down, you ain't coming in

Agreed. I believe that some people genuinely stumble across this site by accident after Googling the name of some ill or recently-dead celeb, but if they don't like what they see, to then stick around long enough to read loads of threads and post an angry rant is, as you say, a bit odd. I suppose they just like to bask in the warm glow of self-righteousness that comes from calling other people 'sick' or whatever. It's the same 'holier than thou' mentality that makes people try to get slightly risqué TV ads banned, or complain to the BBC or whoever about sex scenes in films. Not a problem though - the mods will just delete any abusive post as soon as we see it, unless it's particularly amusing or original, which 90% of them aren't. It takes 5 seconds to do this, so no hassle at all for us. -
Why's that, Mr Horsemen? Thinking of the DDP, the players who I know personally are all pretty normal and just in it for a bit of a laugh. Then again, we do get the odd mail from scary obsessive types... Er, hang on, I've just answered my own question there, haven't I...

Bono estente! Sminky-pinky heth-eth-eth-eth Johnny Ramone. Scorchio! Hey Manuel, chuck us another plate of paella over here when you're done ranting, matey. Muchas Gracias!

So Harry, have you seen the film yet, and if so, what did you think of it?
