So Ted “The Count” Hankey played in both the BDO and PDC darts championship, winning the BDO world title in 2000 before switching to the PDC where he failed to step up to the higher standard. It’s fair to say that he was a right miserable bastard and poor loser. He alleged that opponents broke wind at the Oche to deliberately put him off. After one loss, he alleged that the air conditioning was turned up when he threw and this was a deliberate ploy to put him off his game. He often blamed the crowd for his shortcomings. He lost to Michael Van Gerwen in 2012 and blamed this on having a stroke whilst playing. It turned out that he really did have a stroke, so we’ll let him off on this occasion. After this his career nosedived to the point where he could hardly hit the board. He then turned his attention away from darts towards sex offending and assaulted a female under 18 which resulted in a 2 year stretch in chokey, plus the obligatory signing of the sex offenders register. Rumour is that Ted might soon be lining up his next appearance against the likes of Andy Fordham, Jocky Wilson and Eric Bristow.
