gcreptile 11,315 Posted Saturday at 14:06 Thread for Mexican-American guitar legend Carlos Santana, now 77 years old. He just broke his finger due to a fall while talking a walk: https://www.nme.com/news/music/carlos-santana-postpones-las-vegas-residency-after-breaking-finger-in-fall-3825992 Not the first health emergency! He had unplanned heart surgery in 2021: https://jambands.com/news/2021/12/02/carlos-santana-cancels-december-2021-house-of-blues-las-vegas-dates-due-to-unscheduled-heart-procedure/ A collapse on stage in 2022: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2022/jul/06/carlos-santana-recovers-after-onstage-collapse-in-detroit A back issue and surgery in 2024: https://eu.azcentral.com/story/entertainment/music/2024/08/27/santana-counting-crows-concerts-canceled/74973042007/ He'll obviously be on stage until he dies, so his activity (Las Vegas residency!) might not be indicative of his health. He was a heavy drug user in the 1970s and more recently, published his own brand of marijuana. So maybe he needs to be more on the radar. Personally, I've liked his jazz-fusion records Caravanserai and the John McLaughlin collaboration the most. I think he listened to Miles Davis in 1970 and wanted to walk in his shoes, see his collaborations with McLaughlin, Herbie Hancock, Tony Williams and basically everyone else in Davis' orbit. But then the big hits were the albums Abraxas in 1970 and Supernatural in 1999.
