Today is the Iranian legislative election, so a lot of very old Ayatollahs have appeared to cast their votes. Some images below.

Grand Ayatollah Hossein Noori Hamedani (98):

Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati (97):

Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi (97):

Grand Ayatollah Ja'far Sobhani (94):

I'll add more to this post later today if I find any. Many of the 90+ ayatollahs are very "overdue" and clearly getting frailer.

Shirazi is so frail he is casting his vote in a life support machine.

Ayatollah Mohsen Mojtahed Shabestari dead at 83 or 84:

https://www.tasnimnews.com/fa/news/1400/08/26/2609813/آیت-الله-محسن-مجتهد-شبستری-درگذشت

Assembly of Experts member since 1983, longtime parliament member in Iran. First Ayatollah/Maraji to die since September, but there are quite many above 90:

16. Mohammed Emami-Kashani (3 Oct 1931-) Assembly of Experts member since 1983

Mohammed Emami-Kashani found voting at 92 too hard and had a heart attack and died reportedly: https://en.mehrnews.com/news/212559/Senior-cleric-Ayatollah-Kashani-passes-away-aged-92

Decrepit hardliner cunt! Good fucking riddance!

He was the infamous cleric who justified London's terror attacks back in 2005. Rot in hell son of a bitch.

.. . there are names to keep an eye on, for example Swami Smaranananda who was hospitalised last year in critical condition and treated by four different specialist doctors and in his most recent appearances he's looked half-dead, wheelchairbound under blankets. Could live a few more months, but I doubt he'll make it to 2024 and his next hospitalisation will be his last one.

Swami Smaranananda, 94-year-old head of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission hospitalised and very critical on ventilator.

Edit: He has been in hospital for more than a month but has now taken a turn for the worse.

According to lots of people who know him on facebook, he's critical and "in his final hours" seemingly with terminal cancer, as he revealed he was suffering from cancer in December 2020. He's been in failing health for years with heart problems, recurrent erysipelas and everything.

Major Eastern Orthodox Church leaders really aren't doing well compared to Ayatollahs, major Hindu, Buddhist, Christian leaders. Oldest with a wiki page as far as I know is Simeon (Jakovlevič), 96. Then there's Archbishop Demetrios of America, 94, a major name. Two from 1929, Ukraine's Filaret and Albania's Anastasios, both who survived the covid purge of late 2020. None from 1930 as far as I know, 1931 has John Zizioulas and 1932 Herman (Swaiko) who retired in 2008, only 6 nonagenarians in total. 1933 has the walking corpse that is Ilia II of Georgia, 1934 as far as I know only has Kallistos, 1935 only has a couple of relatively minor names.

Simeon (Jakovlevic) dead at 98.

Jayapataka Swami is out of home care and did a long speech today.

Just saw this on my YouTube "recommended" videos,

Jayapataka Swami looking absolutely horrible, even more horrible than usual:

Near the start he also seems to say there's water in his lungs. I'm not a fan of these cultlike religious leaders but it's incredibly impressive he's still alive with his 15 years of severe health issues and I don't know how anyone could enjoy being alive in that state.

Catholic bishop Thomas Gumbleton dead at 94. Though he never advanced further than auxiliary bishop of Detroit, he was a prominent peace activist, rabble-rouser, an important figure in criticizing the church’s response to sex abuse (of which he was a self-reported victim), and a prominent figure from the halcyon days of liberal American Catholicism in the late twentieth century. The end of an era.

Derek Powney, retired priest, reportedly dead:

Wouldn't have bothered, but he seems to have made a nice living out of being a classmate of the late Stephen Hawking at Oxford.
