I can't find any mention of this, but Osamu Nishimura who was Funk's partner in the match has stage 4 esophageal cancer

Wikipedia's description of his cancer fight is wild, it had spread everywhere, he was in a coma because it was in his brain, but has since fully recovered. Apparently thanks to electro-therapy??

This one went under the radar but Al Blake, who essentially had a one-year career in 1987 wrestling just over 100 matches as Vladimir Petrov, notably in a Russian stable led by Ivan Koloff, died in late July. He was 66. Blake's career was derailed by multiple drug convictions in 1988. He wrestled two matches in the WWE in 1990, on consecutive days, winning them both.

If we're doing off-radar deaths, discovered recently that the early 90s WCW enhancement wrestler Death Row (real name Wendell Rozier) died aged 63 in 2022. Most (solely?) notable for the time he decided to stop selling for Mike Rotunda mid-match. Mike didn't take kindly to this.
