Schism 2 Posted June 10, 2006 I think it's about time we had this picture again. A quarter past eight on a sunday morning, and I'm sat here weeping with laughter looking at these pictures. Superb stuff. Honez'/football_fan's comparison montage is brilliant too. Kudos to all involved. Manny thank's for making my ribb's ache

Canadian Paul 97 Posted June 15, 2006 Mary Travers to appear at awards ceremony.
maryportfuncity 10,682 Posted June 15, 2006 The Songwriters Hall of Fame honors the faces behind that experience -- the songwriters. This year's crop of inductees are a mixture of famous and anonymous faces: Country star Mac Davis; Thom Bell, an architect of the '70s "Philly soul" sound and writer of songs such as "Betcha by Golly Wow"; Will Jennings, whose credits include Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" and Eric Clapton's "Tears from Heaven"; Sylvia Moy, who co-wrote Motown classics such as "My Cherie Amour"; and Hank Cosby, who also co-wrote classics for Motown stars, including "Tears of a Clown." The hall is also honoring Kris Kristofferson with its Johnny Mercer Award, while John Mayer will receive its Hal Davis Starlight Award, awarded to gifted young songwriters. Be honest here guys, what'd be more entertaining, attending that glittering awards bash or watching an episode of 'Neighbours'?
pulphack 6 Posted June 15, 2006 most of it is bollocks, but i'd walk over broken glass for thom bell. when i was at primary school a pub across the road was london's 'home of philly funk and soul' according to a sign in the wall, and pumped it out. i've loved philly ever since, and he was the main man. just listen to philly tunes and their amazing use of string charts. incredible music. the rest are tossers, though. maryportfuncity 10,682 Posted June 16, 2006 Aye, granted there Pulphack. If Thom Bell has any sense he'll wear earplugs when the rest of the winners play their honourary numbers on stage.

It is amazing what I find when I go through each and every post. I had no idea that I was being mentioned so often. At least in part this explains why I received one of those questions in that P.M. now does it not? I saw no reason to get involved in the Mary Travers thread again (not sure now if I ever actually did before) but I figured it wouldn't hurt. I used to dream of being the replacement for Mary in Peter Paul and Mary of course my deeper voice would have thrown some of the harmonies into a messy spot and since I am not able to sing there would have been added problems but to be on stage with Paul and Peter would be superb. As to the gin and tonic I have been advised to avoid it at all costs or it could kill me. Anyway I used carrot stick stirrers.

maryportfuncity 10,682 Posted September 16, 2006 WHAT THE F**k! You come on here, dig up a post from almost two years back and then have a blast at me for having problems? Your irony bypass clearly worked but it might be harming your blood pressure to stick around here. Incidentally; PPM 'Artists!!!!' I'd swap you a Smiths b-side for their entire catalogue and know I'd done right. In the UK at the moment you can't move for 'The best of...' TV shows on music in all categories and decades. I've not seen PPM mentioned on one such show, most of which require the public to vote. Still, maybe in 'The World's Greatest Crap Artists' eh? Peace, man
Guest Guest Posted September 17, 2006 I see in 2 years your opinion hasen't changed much!...if I would have known I was on a "Limeys" only site, I wouldn't have wasted my time!...the Beatles was the only thing thats come out of England in the last 200 years that was even worth a second look!...and now they're gone...oh well...see you in another 200 years Nigel... :
maryportfuncity 10,682 Posted September 17, 2006 You're not on a limey's only site, and if you're the same idiot that favourably compared PPM to black music, seemingly on the basis that the racial base of rap and the rest made it inferior it might be worth your while noting that you're not on a whites only site either. I could go on but unless you can put an argument together without leaks I might just leave you to the scavenging antics of our resident Jackal who appears to enjoy ripping ranters to shreds. honez 79 Posted September 18, 2006 if I would have known I was on a "Limeys" only site, I wouldn't have wasted my time! Surprising as you might find it, the Internet does extend out past the borders of the USA. In the lands that exist outside those borders, you may also be interested to learn that there are vast swathes of different cultures, music, languages, arts and all sorts of other weird things that you needn't waste your time with. I think it'll be beneficial for both you and the 6 billion or so non-USA-residents if you stay on your side of the line.
