    The Weatherman Death Pool

That's a good question. I will be continuing the pool beginning as soon as the current one ends. I will open it up for registration somewhere around late February. I'm hoping I can get all our current players back again , plus 15 more or so. So I'm aiming for about 35 teams this year - I think it can be done. The DDP decided to use my age-based scoring technique this year, so I would like to come up with something unique to my pool. WDP II will kick off at 00:01 UTC on April 1, 2007. I'm thinking about giving one extra point for a unique pick. Any thoughts?
  2. Happy Anniversary Mr. Vinegar Tits. I should have done this earlier but I just discovered the multitude of Happy Birthday posts from my b-day last year in Nov. Thank you all for the B-day wishes - and the amusing pictures!

    World War I Veteran(s)

That was quick - 1 down and 31 to go for this year.

    Abe Vigoda

He's plenty heard of - he was on CHiPs over here in the U.S. But can anyone supply me with rationale as to why he was selected (see my question below)

Looks like we have a necrophiliac!

    George Bush Senior

I think Bush Sr will live to see 90, and Carter as well(unfortunately) - they are both active, George Sr has a great sense of humor still, and no major health concerns.

    World War I Veteran(s)

These do tend to go for a while. I imagine it will run until the last veteran dies. To update: There are now 53 validated veterans living who served in the war. One of them of course is the oldest living person - Emiliano Mercado del Toro. I did a future plot given the number of vet deaths each year since 1999. The math says that 32 will die this year, 13 in 2008, 5 in 2009, and the last two vets will die in 2010. We will see if that holds up.

    The First 2007 Success Poll

I feel good about this year's list, besides Harold Pinter. I think 16 will be our number, and Tammy Faye will be our first hit.

Who Has The Best Chances To Survive Dl 2007?

Pinter! There's nothing wrong with him. He's cancer free for 5 years now.
  11. weatherman90

    Tammy Faye Messner

I'm glad to see Tammy made it onto the list - her body certainly can't take much more of the treatment let alone the cancer.

    Harold Pinter

Could someone remind me why we chose a 76 year old who is doing fine for 2007? I mean, the guy hasn't had cancer since 2002 and has plans for plays or whatever he does well into 2008!

    Tim Johnson

I'm not so sure on this one, although his demise would certainly benefit Republicans like myself over here in the states. It sounds like he will be acting a lot like Ariel Sharon over the next year - in and out of conciousness, etc...

    Abe Vigoda

I'm not happy about this selection, He should live well into his 90s. He appears regularly on the American talk show "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" as an extra, and looks great for his age. He still has great wit and a good sense of humor. This guy will easily survive the year. There are lots of 85 year olds in worse shape that should have been selected.

    Saddam Hussein

Dang - I wanted Saddam to hang on to 07 for the DDP - i've already lost 2 of my original 20, and this would make 3 new names I have to come up with. Its a good thing I haven't submitted my list yet.

    The Weatherman Death Pool

Indeed - I noticed some striking similarities between the recently deceased Ford and your other 93 year old selection, Michael Foot. Ford became the longest lived President - Foot became the longest lived leader of a British Politcal Party (both this year), they are both 93 of course, and let's not forget, both of their last names start with F. Maybe Foot will follow Ford's footsteps like a folly friend?

My apologies - I threw the 'his' in there without even realizing it. For the love of all that is holy W90, SttG is female.

    The Weatherman Death Pool

Gerald Ford, as most of you know, has finally died age 93 - the oldest Pres in history. 8 teams: myself, Icelandic Hurricane, Slave to the Grave, Halleluyahjohntudor, WSDA, Windsor the Troll, Handrejka, and JD. This is the first hit and about time for me and WSDA, and now all 19 players have had at least one hit in this jolly old pool. With that said, Ford's death brings a new first place holder - our own Slave to the Grave. SttG and Canadian Paul had been tied for several months and most recently tied at 31. Now, since CP chose not to select Ford, SttG leaps ahead to 37 with her 5th hit. Football Fan is still in 3rd with 30 points, and now JD and Windsor are tied with 27 for 4th. Obiskobilob rounds of the top 5 with 23. Check out the newly updated headquarters here.

    Gerald Ford

Here's a bit of history. When Ford moved into office he wanted ex-Pres Harry Truman's picture in the capitol building. Truman died on Dec 26, 1972. And now Ford dies Dec 26, 2006. UPDATE:Upon analysis of the 3-4 pages posted since the announcement of his death, and sifting through the useless guest comments, I discovered that Bruno already brought this to our attention.

    Gerald Ford

Damn, I wanted to be first. Anyway, he's gone. It's too bad - but he had to go sometime. I was watching a repeat of the Tonight Show on NBC, and the special bulletin came in, but of course the geniuses at our local TV station couldn't get the audio to work, so I am now watching ABC's report on his death.

    Harold Pinter

After reading this post, and finding no news on Pinter's health, I have to ask why he was chosen as the top pick who must be carried over to 2007? See Here (go to the bottom post by Rotten Ali)

    Luciano Pavarotting.

He does still seem optimistic about a comeback next year - I'm not quite convinced that he will be a goner in 2007.

    Tammy Faye Messner

You know, I always miss these things. Larry needs to get some streaming broadcasts on his website. Anyway, judging from the transcript, and the fact that she is in hospice, it looks like she will definately be leaving in 2007. It seems to be that she is basically just receiving more and more treatment in hopes that it will lower her cancer count which is now very high. At 68 pounds, if the cancer doesn't kill her, the treatment will.

    Evel Knievel

Thank you for clearing that up - I spent hours wondering if it was a man or a woman. It was a nickname given to one of the female prison warders (see avatar) in the Aussie TV programme 'Prisoner - Cell Block H' by the 'occupants' of the prison. I'm sure VT will be able to explain it better than me. Yup. Named because she was sour and had an acid tongue. Vera Bennett (for it was she so-named Vinegar Tits) was a far better character than The Freak; yes she was a bitch but she was also human - who could forget her crushing disappointments when men she picked up in discos, not to mention fellow screw Jim Fletcher, didn't want to sleep with her or were worthless one night stands? And her alcohol problems, when she turned up to work tipsy. Great episode that was! Of course, she was governor at Barnhurst when Bea copped it in a riot too. Someone stop me now, I can blither on about PCBH forever...

    Tammy Faye Messner

It's about time for an update from Tamm. She obviously wants us all to know that she is not doing as bad as the news points out, but whether this is the truth or something written by her publicist is yet to be seen.
