Many of you are aware of the 'Recent Deaths' page on Wikipedia. It is a useful tool, with deaths listed for each day of the year. I thought it would be interesting to use this information to find which days and or times of year are the most deadliest for well-known people. To go about this, I made a database of each day in 2005 and filled in the number of deaths that occured. The results were very interesting. The raw numbers for each month of 2005 are on the chart below. The X axis represents the months of 2005 from 1-12 and the Y axis represents the number of deaths: I say raw because there is an un-evenness caused by unequal days in each month. The next chart shows the deaths by month with the missing days filled in with the average number of deaths per day of that month. For example, February's missing 29-31 were filled in with 6 for each day - the average number of deaths per day of that month. The same was done for all the other months that don't have a 31. Note only slight changes, but a noticable change for February as it now has a fair 31 days. As you can clearly see, Winter Kills! The coldest four months of the year north of the equator (Nov, Dec, Jan, and Feb) total 914 deaths. The warmest four months of the year (May, June, July, Aug) total a mere 647 deaths. The exact numbers for each month starting with January are 217, 190, 181, 190, 133, 133, 166, 215, 203, 277, 250, 257. We are now in the middle of the deadliest month - October. The least deadly months are May and June with 133 - less than half the deaths of October. While it would seem strange that cold weather could have such an effect - what other conclusions are there to draw? The next graph shows the deaths per day of the month. For this graph, the months have been evened out to have 31 days as explained above. The days are plotted at the bottom (1-31), and the deaths are plotted at the left. I can't seem to draw any conclusion from this as expected, except that the deadliest day is the 10th of each month, totaling 92 deaths. The least deadly day is the 24th with a mere 60. Draw your own conclusions here. In summary, hospitals need to employ some more personel in the winter months.

How about This guy? He turns 85 today.

The Weatherman Death Pool
weatherman90 replied to weatherman90's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I'm sure may of you are wondering, so I will let you know what the end of the pool proceedings will be if the current 1st place tie would still exist or if another one would develop. First, if the player has won an award like BHB or WSDA have, they would be declared winner in a tie. However, (sorry BHB, but if none of your gay George's die), it appears that neither of those teams will make it to 1st place. So, the final ruling will be made based on the APA(Average Pick Age for the slow). The player with the lowest APA will win. Currently, Canadian Paul is listed on top because he has a lower APA than SttG. Questions? -
I agree. Now looking over the 2006 data, it is almost impossible to use in research due to the fact that Wikipedia experienced massive growth in 2006 - more users means more users reporting more odd deaths. The numbers are double that of 2005 in most areas and increasing as the year went on. I definately agree with GR as far as the early hits in the year. The celebs most likely to die during a given year are selected due to their disease. If they haven't died by the end of the summer - chances are they are over their illness and just waiting for the next one to strike.

The Weatherman Death Pool

Yes, the long awaited death of EastEnders star Ross Davidson has finally occured. Davidson announced his disease publically 15 months ago after doctors gave him 18 months to live. This is the biggest hit so far at the WDP. Since his illness was highly publicized at the Deathlist, Davidson became the second most picked celeb, with 10 teams selecting him. Phantom, Football Fan, Canadian Paul, Obiskobilob, Nice Tits, Slave to the Grave, Windsor the Troll, Handrejka, Brinsworth House Baiter, and JD all receive 8 points on account of his youthful age. While a total of 80 points is added to the scoreboard, Davidson's death brings no change to the top 3 teams as they all had a hit with him. The tie for first place still remains with Canadian Paul and Slave to the Grave now tied at 31 points. Football Fan still hangs on to 2nd with 30 points. Davidson's death was the first hit of the game for 3 late-blooming teams:Handrejka, Phantom, and Brinsworth House Baiter. Incredibly, this still leaves two teams still with no hits for the year: Myself, sadly, and the still-mystery player WSDA. For the scoreboard, see Here. -
I was thinking the same thing. Except that the Recent deaths page really wasn't well organized pre-2005, so anything before '05 would be innacurate. I already am starting on the 2006 statistics and it will be interesting to see if October holds up as the deadliest month. Hopefully these statistics will work in favor of the deathlist for the rest of 2006. One more interesting bit of info that I forgot to point out. It was a tie for the deadliest day in 2005 at 14. The two days were September 18 and October 18.

Sorry for the delay, but yesterday, September 30, 2006, the WDP reached the official halfway mark. Since we have had 10 of the 90 celebrities die at this point, we can probably look for about 18-20 out of 90 for the final tally. Hopefully the so-called "Unfortunate 5" (Myself, Phantom, WSDA, Handrejka, and BHB) will catch a break during the second half. -
It's my own little creation.

Tempus, if you were president, how would you want to kill Bin Ladin? He can't be shot because then he would die thinking he's Jesus. I say we have a big circus in Yankee stadium. Tickets, pocorn, and we hang the sum bitch. All the money that is raised goes to the kids who lost there parents. Then I would put his death on every radio station, and every telivison channel in Iraq. I couldn't think of a better plan myself.

We need more guests of that genre. Well said.

picture Here is a snapshot from the 1996 Waiting for God. He didn't look all that bad considering he was 74 in this picture. Hey, and he has the same birthday as me so he's OK in my book.

There are a few more results showing up on google news - but all of them point to a vague unconfirmed report. Even unconfirmed reports from unconfirmed and unknown sources can generate 702 news articles on google news apparently... Osama in the News

Excellent! Well said Weatherman90! Now what about Barry Manilow? Is he your fault as well? I haven't a clue why a moderator would abuse his power in such a way. It is truly an immature and childish way to handle frustration. I hope I don't have to fall victim to any more of such moderator abuse. Whoever did this should be indefinatively stripped of his/her moderating powers. Sheesh, lighten up weather kid. We were looking for a couple of new mods, but you are now off my list of potential nominees due to your immature outburst. Don't you think these things could be done to see how thick your skin is? And FYI, I don't know anything about it. I don't think that calling it an immature outburst would be fair at all. I was just distressed about the events that occured. I didn't use a single swear word, didn't degrade anyone, and jeeze I didn't even use an exclamation mark or a single press of the caps lock button... I hope that you won't let me defending myself in calm manner get in the way of choosing a suitable moderator.

I will let someone else do the Rant Assessment on that one.

As a Republican I would just like to apologize to the world for George W Bush. I admit that he is a total piece of ignorant sh*t, and the world would be a better place with him dead. (The above material was posted under my name by an abusive moderator.)

Strip The Moderaters Of Their Meagre Powers?
weatherman90 replied to Star Crossed's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
While you're at it you can apologise for the juvenile April Fool turd. And if you are still a Republican - or at least think you are - you can apologise for that too, every day Didn't like the April Fool's turd, huh? Well, I am afraid I can't apologi(z)(s)e for that one - it was far too funny. I am still a republican though, but, that is as far as I will go into discussing politics with you here on the regular forum. If you want to argue(nothing wrong with a civili(z)(s)ed debate), there is always the private messaging feature. -
Thanks for pointing that one out. I found it a while back but had forgotten about the gem. I found this one especially amusing. 1996: Richard Versalle suffered a heart attack onstage at the New York Metropolitan Opera after delivering the line "Too bad you can only live so long" during a performance of The Makropulos Case.

Strip The Moderaters Of Their Meagre Powers?

Just making sure - you do realize we are talking about moderaters and not moderators, right Phantom? Moderators would still have their powers. Gah this is confusing -
Sounds like IYG to me. He just had to make a new account with a period at the end of his name because IYG without a period was banned.

Strip The Moderaters Of Their Meagre Powers?

Ahh, but one question - the people I see on the moderating team list - are the E or O? By Golly there it is - I proudly bear my new title - Executioner! It took 2 years, 3 months, 8 days, 6 hours and 15 minutes for this monumental 500th post to occur. Surely this must be some sort of record? -

Am I missing something about the relevance of the spelling of moderator as opposed to moderater? Is it just another discrepancy issue with American english? -
Where Have All The Ranters Gone?
weatherman90 replied to Paul Bearer's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
The tongan ranters continue to flock by the dozens. I have a hunch that the King's thread will be active for quite some time. -
Welcome back IYG - what kind of incident are we talking about here - was it worse than my crimes against humanity that got me a ban back in '04?

Strip The Moderaters Of Their Meagre Powers?
weatherman90 replied to Star Crossed's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I don't see a problem with the moderators, although I feel that we currently have enough and there is no need to create more unless the current ones become inactive. Nearly everyone on that list has earned my trust - especially the 2 year + veterans (like myself except with much higher post counts) like Cowboy Ronnie, Anubis the Jackal, heaven can wait, Rude Kid, Teddy, Yeti and even Josco is coming up on his 2 year anniversary on Sept. 20. Don't feel bad if I left some out, I probably didn't hit all of them. Ok, I admit, I was going to include The Four Horsemen but his profile photo scared me off. With special mention to Cowboy Ronnie and Rude Kid - who both had their fair share of arguments with me in my first few months at the DL in my rowdier days. I am also approaching my first milestone here at my second home - my 500th post. I thought the day would never come, but it is fast approaching. Although it is about time seeing that I joined way back in June of 2004. Also, I was reading back into my earlier posts when I first joined the DL. I can't believe what a ranter I was, especially on the Ronnie Reagan thread. Since I never offered any formal apology for my rantings/yellings/senseless attacks, I would like to offer one now especially to the Yeti and Rude Kid if they ever stop by any more these days - hats off to you chaps - it must have taken some courage.
