A quick update: There are now less than five days before the end of the current pool, and the same amount of time in which to register your team. I have so far received 10 entries and would like about 35. No deaths to report in the current pool as of late - Canadian Paul maintains the lead at 38 points, with Slave to the Grave still in a close second with 37. In addition, RMHED, Football Fan, and Obiskobilob have also done exceptionally well - exceeding 30 points each.

I saw Ernie being interviewed on Bill O'Reilly last night. He looks fantastic, and is just as sharp as a 50 year old man. I've said it before but this just re-affirms my belief that he was a bad choice this year. Maybe a better choice in 10 years, but definitely not now.

That seems to be correct. My uncle was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last September - he went in for surgery, woke up and almost died of heart failure. He was in intensive care for 3 months and barely conscious while they tried to fix his heart. Then, he came out alive and was better for a month or two. Then earlier this year the cancer was back and had spread to his liver. Doctors give him about 6-12 months. My uncle was a smoker, and Tammy was obviously a smoker, so when your body is that full of chemicals I suppose cancer is a tough thing to get rid of. Even if she does get better I'm sure it won't be long before it returns.

Very fascinating find CP - I imagine certain celebrities themselves patrol their articles. Here's a link to Tom Melly's, son of George Melly, wikipedia Userpage. Apparently, Tom works in IT support, which is obviously much less exciting than being a jazz musician. Maybe we could get Tom to post a "Melly-Meter" on his page to monitor his father's health.

Spreading cancer isn't good, refusing to treat it isn't good, 60 cigarettes per day (no wonder he looks like hell), and being fat certainly doesn't help is odds either. I think Melly will be a goner in 2007.

Well, Boston lead singer Brad Delp's death has now been confirmed as suicide. He did so by firing up some grills in a bathroom. He left a chain of notes - on the front door "To whoever finds this I have hopefully committed suicide. Plan B was to asphyxiate myself in my car." At the top of the stairs - "I take complete and sole responsibility for my present situation. I have lost my desire to live." The case is certainly strange - he was working on new albums and new tours and had a lot coming up for him later in the year. He was even engaged to get married this summer. Unfortunately his wife was out for the weekend and his depression must have worsened when he was lonely. You just never know who is going to go next - this was certainly a surprise for me.

It is too bad he is gone. Boston is one of my favorite bands. I agree - he had an amazing voice and Boston was a great band. I was planning on seeing Boston in concert this year - unfortunately that won't happen - probably ever. RIP Brad Delp.

I second that - she is very popular already as entries come in. Unfortunately, my theme team this year, 1918 births, does not allow Tammy. Or maybe I could include her by giving my theme team the name "People born in 1918, and people who wear so much make up that they look like they could possibly have been born in 1918." So, yes, I think that Tammy's "death note" will be issued during the next WDP, if not the current one - although there are just a couple of weeks left.

I actually had forgotten to copy that over - thanks for bringing it up! Although suicides are highly unlikely with a smaller pool, I will still keep it on for next year. On a side note: I have so far received 6 entries in the upcoming pool. I am shooting for 35 this year so don't forget to register before the deadline , which is March 31.

We've gone almost three months now without one of Tammy's cherished notes. Since she's not gone already like I thought she would be, I think she will hold on for about a month yet, and then die on April 8, Easter Sunday to create the most ironic situation possible.

I think its just that people expect the picks to start dropping like flies at the beginning of the year - we're just 1/6 into the year - it could take some time for the pace to quicken. Tammy has gone almost 3 months without a lovely "note" on her website. I think she will die around Easter - to make it most ironic.

Strike 16 of the pool arrives on this last day of February in the form of elderly Charles Forte, 98, a hotelier. Forte was one of several old geezer unique picks by Cap'n Ohtz, and he is Cap'n's third hit of the year. The Cap'n is now in 6th place with 18 points. 1st and 2nd place still belong to Canadian Paul and Slave to the Grave respectively. I'm sure most of you are aware of this, but here is a link to the GRG (Gerontology Research Group). http://grg.org/Adams/E.HTM Their table of 110+'s (Supercentenarians) currently has 84 oldies on it. Henry Allingham is at #67. The group aims to "slow and ultimately reverse human aging..." - well that's somewhat believable, but the other half of their goal: "...within the next 20 years" is laughable at best, considering that it seems from their web site that all they do is sit and stare at the chart of oldest people all day. This has to be the first time in a long time where there is only one 114-year-old on the list. I can remember last year when there were a full 5-10 114 year-olds waiting to claim the top spot, along with a couple 115s. Maybe the GRG is actually accelerating human aging?
