I will have to Google him as I currently am oblivious to him!

I just feel it's not as cut and dry as only having deathlisters with individual threads. I was genuinely surprised when the very elderly widow of a former prime minister and absolute music icon Shirley Bassey didn't have their own threads. Especially as Shirley was rushed into hospital for emergency surgery around 2007/8 I believe. I feel she's too big a name to miss and be caught unawares. I would also argue that I'm not being as prolific and "bad" or excessive as some suggest. Ie I haven't included anyone aged under 80,most are household names and all would be known to people on here. Their not obscure in any way. Yes I posted three at the weekend and I felt they were all overdue but since then I've slowed the rate of posting new threads. I have none planned for today! I am working my way through a list but will do so gradually as to not flood or spam the forum. I'm sure I will be thought of by some as doing so but I genuinely don't think I am. I'm actually being quite thoughtful about it and have put a line through many names included in my original brainstorming! Carroll Baker, Joel Grey, Princess Alexandra are just some of the names I felt were not right for an individual thread anytime soon if ever. I am conscious that there is such a thing as too many but I'm also conscious that for some any additional individual thread is too many! I'm just trying to make an attempt at my own defence here, I don't view myself as arguing with you or being narked etc so it's all cool! But your right I won't be doing a thread for Bernard Hepton -whoever he is! Cheers Bibliogryphon

Intriguing. Thank you. I hadn't heard about this onscreen reunion and I definitely would have thought he'd be up for it as Sean has always been very proud of his Bond role. Also whilst he's not the type of celebrity /famous person to act as a political commentator always sharing their views, I would have thought he would have said something about Scotland's predicament since the EU referendum gamechanger. Another sign perhaps that all is not well.

Death Anniversary Thread

Pardon??!! -
Fair point. I did sense Michael Caine may have realised he said or revealed too much and promptly retracted /played down his comments if memory serves me correctly.
-
Obviously I don't concur and we will have to agree to disagree
-
He was an absolute genius director. Silence of the lamb's and Philadelphia are some of the best films of the 1990s. Sad news.

If this is a passive aggressive indirect at me for politely and civily disagreeing with you then it's a poor response and unnecessary. My best to you

Death Anniversary Thread

Sadly I don't think it looks like they're going to ever solve Jill's murder. -
I could easily see Ethel being worthy of consideration or likely to go on the deathlist in the future.
-
Don't concur. I think the answer to both your questions for Ethel is yes and yes. I see nothing wrong in elaborating in an opening post as to reasons why person X is threadworthy. I think it gives a good starting foundation to the thread and I'm not particularly surprised that not everybody agrees with me! Only to be expected on any forum as their full of humans who tend to be creatures who are balance of objective and subjective such is life! I also think the criteria that a thread is only justified if there's a likely update on them weekly is a misplaced or wrong test. Afterall lots of the threads on people actually on the deathlist are not posted on or updated weekly. Infact some haven’t been posted on since the first week in January. We will have to agree to disagree. All the best.

Pleased to hear this (that he's attending a public event) as there has been speculation that he is suffering badly from dementia or alzheimers. I think it was after a comment made by his good friend Michael Caine a while back which may have been worded badly and misinterpreted. I seem to remember reading something along these lines anyway.

Thank you for your thoughtful detailed reply and sharing your perspective from the US angle.

Just noticed from your profile that you live in America. Is there much talk about George Bush seniors failing health etc over there? How beloved was he for lack of a better word springing to mind? What I am driving at is will he be greatly mourned by the nation? Are all President's except maybe Nixon greatly mourned regardless of party politics or is there likely to be apathy and indifference?
-
Fair point -I just found him to be more modern and less dogmatic in his social attitudes than many republicans especially amongst his own generation. I'm not saying he was a massive social liberal by any stretch!
-
It really does feel like he's on borrowed time now sadly. Not a big fan of his politics but prefer him to his son. He's much more socially liberal than his son. I believe just a few years ago he and his wife Barbara had some role at a gay couple's wedding.
-
He will need to be pretty trim and fit for that -respect to him. But let's just hope he doesn't have any more mishaps flying planes.

I don't concur surprise surprise! A key surviving member of one of the world's most famous and influential (in the US) political dynasties in the 20th century. If JFKS daughter Caroline was diagnosed as terminally ill I think she'd be a contender for the deathlist and thus her own thread. Yet being somebody's daughter is no more noteworthy than being somebody's widow (that's a key part of her fame being Bobby Kennedys widow) or sister in law. Their both first order members of an extremely world famous family and thus in appropriate circumstances could have their own threads with little controversy. Their a bit like an American royal family. Princess Alice of Gloucester had her own thread and what did she do but marry into a political Dynasty, become the King's Sister in law and first hand witness the abdication crisis? So no I'm not persuaded by your argument but obviously respect your right to disagree!
-
Not only will she obit everywhere but I suspect after a little time has passed our multiplexes will be showing a film simply called Ethel -showing her perspective and point of view from within the Kennedy clan during the historic events just as there was a Jackie film earlier this year. It could actually be even more interesting potentially.
-
Not neccesarily an interruption but definitely a prominent headline especially on the likes of CNN.
-
Your welcome! And don't worry I can live with that!
-
You put it perfectly and so much better than me! Your a bit of a forum King with your very intelligent and witty posts
-
Goodness yes there's no doubt in my mind about that! I think every national UK newspaper would report her passing and all the broadsheets would give her a full obituary. She was at the epicentre of one of America's most famous political dynasties or clans.

Or his wife Yvette Cooper who used to be pretty effective when up against May at the dispatch box as shadow home Secretary and even more recently since May became PM. -
Political Discussions And Ranting Thread

Iove staying up right through election night watching all the political drama and ups and downs and I think this year for good or ill election night is going to be seismic and very dramatic.
