Who Should Be On The 2017 Deathlist?
Gooseberry Crumble replied to Deathray's topic in DeathList Forum
Not true, unless you are distinguishing between actors and actresses, which seems to be no longer the done thing. Hattie McDaniel won an Oscar in 1940 for 'Gone With The Wind', over 20 years before Poitier. I was distinguishing between actors and actresses -I was aware of Hattie. That's amazing - you sounded just like joeyruss then. Not at all -I mentioned Sidney being the first black actor in my original earlier post and When I checked on the forum before after a lie down /catnap and I spotted that post I thought mistakenly it was in response to my original post as I didn't look properly. I can be a little bit hasty when and premature when I see stuff onscreen sometimes as my premature post over Walter Mondales daughter's death illustrates! I've spotted your post now - it was in a different thread. But you said Poitier was "the first African American actor to win a best actor Oscar" which is correct, as you specified "Best Actor". Hattie McDaniel's Oscar was for Best Supporting Actress. So no issue there. Indeed! But my mind wasn't thinking that clearly when I had just woken from the land of zzzzzz a few hour's ago!I only realised half an hour ago that I'd posted that on a different thread rather than the same thread -

Wholly concur with you about John Glenn -I think in terms of recognition of his achievements he'd be a worthy name to put on the list. -

Whilst that is a perfectly fair and rational reasoning, it is far more fun to assume you and joeyruss to be the same account. so I'm going to continue doing that. Arr you make a good philosophical illustration of the difference sometimes between fun and truth! -

Please not the lovely Betty White the last of The Golden Girls! Some excellent picks in there although Val Kilmer has denied publicly he has cancer for what it's worth? -
Arlene is 91. The same names keep popping up in this thread all the time but none of them will be added for sure. Again we will get a list of people most of us never even heard of. My mistake I misrembered Arlene as being born in 1929!

Hans Rausing - dad of the hopeless Meth-head, right? How is the young caner doing these days? Oh I didn't know there was some scandalous history in his family?? '

Here's ten names I feel are worthy of consideration by others (and indeed the committee) for whatever list your doing. Some of the names I'm a bit surprised aren't more popular choices previously. Anyway just some suggestions The Dowager Duchess of Grafton - 96 year old aristocrat guaranteed an obituary in The Daily Telegraph and pretty much The Times also. Lord Snowden 86 year old ex husband of Princess Margaret Hans Rausing SNR 90 year old Swedish billionaire who inherited the lucrative Tetrapak empire Burt Bacharach Pierre Cardin 94 year old Italian born French Fashion designer Moon Landrieu 86 year old Former US Secretary of housing and Urban development in Jimmy Carter's cabinet. Guaranteed a broadsheet obituary imo Tam Dalyell former Labour MP and "originater " of the famous "West Lothian question" 87 year old golden era Hollywood star Arlene Dahl 89 year old Oscar winning actor Sidney Poitier-also notable for being the first African American actor to win a best actor Oscar. Ageing showbiz veteran Lionel Blair Cheers ☺👍

Hi OP MSC I'm having trouble messaging you my list of 50-the message box keeps freezing on me after a few lines typed on my mobile. Would it be OK for me to either type the list of 50 in the thread OR If maybe you could PM me first as when I send a reply to an existing conversation I don't seem to have the same problem as much sending a message. Many Thanks GC ☺ -
He used to be married to Amber Rudd our current Home Secretary and has two children with her.

Afterall nobody predicted Jackie Collins death on here I don't think and nor did many guess Cilla Black either I don't think. That was because she died unnaturally. Which just goes to show the value of throwing in some hedging your bets guesses because unnatural deaths, older people dying from falling etc are relatively common place Only placing guesses on publicly declared health information limits the scope for guesses indeed correct guesses. I assumed most people on here put some semi "wild cards" in their lists. Cilla Black though did appear to possibly be in poor health when she collected her bafta award in 2014 sparking speculation of an undeclared stroke. So I'm actually surprised more people didn't put her on their 2015 list. -
Melvin Laird dies, go homewards tae think again. Goodness me that was "surreal" timing!OK I replace Melvin with Ramsey Clark who was the Attorney General under US President Lyndon B Johnson and a prominent US lawyer In the event that anybody else dies on my list before 2017 I'm putting prominent New York gossip columnist Cindy Adams as a sub. FTFY - or summat Many Thanks

Just realised I forgot to name a joker so I will choose Shirley Bassey as my joker please. ☺

The 2Nd Crowdsourced Deathlist (2017 Edition)

Norman Lloyd is in great shape but at 102 he could easily go next year.Liz Dawn I think is a must have for next year. Still think Leah Bracknell needs to be on next years list and Tony Booth. Tony Booth for sure but Leahs situation sadly sounds quite dire and tragic and I fear she may go before 2017 Another name that springs to mind is Ryan O'Neal. Other names to throw into the discussion - Norman Tebbit, Sumner Redstone, Michael Caine, Joan Plowright, Gerald Kaufman (Labour MP) Silvio berculusoni -former Italian pm but I'm sure I've spelt his name wrong! Jacques Chirac, Nicholas F Brady US Secretary of the Treasury under Reagan and Bush senior, Robert Wagner, Anne Douglas (actress Wife of Kirk Douglas) and Winnie Mandela Just to help jump start some discussion! Michael Caine,Plowright.Tebitt,Winnie Mandela and Robert Wagner seem like they all got many years left in them Mmm I'm not so sure. Joan Plowright has retired from acting due to going blind which in itself could put her at increased risks of having a fall for instance. Tebbit doesn't look in glowing health to me. Your most likely to be right with regards to Michael Caine but we really can't be sure. Jackie Collins looked wonderful for instance until a month or so prior to her death. Sometimes you can't tell especially if they keep their health issues private. It's worth throwing in some maybe guesses in this competition imo. Afterall nobody predicted Jackie Collins death on here I don't think and nor did many guess Cilla Black either I don't think. An actor who's been out of the limelight a while Gene Hackman is worth being considered for any 2017 deathlist. Other names I will throw into the discussion, US boxing promoter Don King aged 85,Mikhail Gorbachev,French Fashion designer Hubert de Givenchy, Little Richard and Burt Bacharach. -

Even if Leah Bracknell doesn't survive to 2017, someone ought to play her in the Advent Avalanche DP, I mean, she'll survive two weeks. And don't forget to discuss about Donald Trump Arr you think Trump is likely to be assassinated /killed sometime soon? I think a Halibut person might kill him if he pull through with his vetting policy. Only time will tell. I think that's a real possibility -he's certainly created an inflammatory atmosphere full of emotional poison in US society. I think his vice president Mike Pence would likely be at risk too not just Trump. -

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/eleanor-mondale-daughter-vice-president-236738 Walter Mondales daughter has died - I'd say such a loss at 88 must raise the chances of his passing away too.

To be honest I think the rumours about Hillary are overblown and politically motivated but worth a punt I guess. Bill you may have a point about but not Hillary imo. I suspect next year will be a sad one for the Bush clan however. Walter Mondale a democratic presidential contender from 1984 is getting on too. Worth considering.

In terms of discussing possibilities for this list as the opening post indicated we could do -I'm surprised the name of centenarian actor Norman Lloyd isn't mentioned more often. I think he's a real contender so to speak. Certainly the long time ill Corrie actress Liz Dawn is also.
