On this day in 2013 american actress and competitive swimmer Esther Williams died aged 91. Esther was a big name star in MGM musicals during the golden age of Hollywood in the 1940s and 1950s . Esther was originally a competitive swimmer but unable to participate in the Olympics in 1940 due to the outbreak of world war two , Esther switched to joining music dance and swimming touring show Billy Roses Aquacade were she took the part left by Olympic gold medallist Eleanor Holm who had left the show.
