She had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 10 months ago, said her husband, actor Simon Needham. Suhor’s passing came as a surprise to many — she had not wanted her illness to be known publicly...

Agreed with your entire list. I felt the same way about Lauren Bacall a few years back, angered me that anyone dared put her name on a list. I wouldn't have done even if it cost me a DDP title. I don't care one way or another about Betty White, for instance, but I'll be damned if I will be responsible for the bad karma that brings her demise. I won't have that on my conscious. So her name is safe from my lists. SC

1. His insurance has to come out and determine if it's a total loss. 2. Tony Swan will be interred at Western Auto Salvage.

I can attest to it being a WWII household name. My grandmother accused my grandfather of sleeping around 'who was that woman I saw you with' and he said 'it's a Riddle'.

He was the automotive writer in the Detroit Free Press for seemingly years. Which means he held quite a lofty position, automotive + Detroit.....

Former Marshall University All-American quarterback Michael Payton died Thursday. Payton, 48, died from complications related to cancer. Payton led Marshall to the 1992 NCAA Division I-AA national championship, engineering a fourth-quarter game-winning drive that culminated in Willy Merick’s 22-yard field goal to defeat Youngstown State at Marshall Stadium. Payton also helped the Thundering Herd to the 1991 NCAA title game in Statesboro, Georgia. SC -
Magic Johnson, And Other Basketball Players

Former Los Angeles Lakers, Indiana Pacers and Kansas City Kings coach Jack McKinney, whose career was almost derailed by a devastating bicycle injury, has died, St. Joseph's University confirmed. He was 83. McKinney was a protege of Hall of Fame coach Dr. Jack Ramsay and succeeded Ramsay as basketball coach at St. Joseph's, his alma mater, from 1966 to 1974 before leaving to become an assistant coach in the NBA. McKinney was named to his first NBA head-coaching job with the Lakers in 1979. He was the Lakers coach for 14 games, but suffered serious head injuries in a bicycle accident and was replaced by Paul Westhead, who went on to take the team -- with a rookie named Magic Johnson -- to the NBA title. McKinney continued to suffer from memory loss and other neurological issues throughout his life. He was fired by the Lakers after the 1979-80 season and was named coach of the Pacers shortly after. He won Coach of the Year honors after leading the Pacers to a 44-38 record and the playoffs that season. But he was fired by the Pacers after the 1983-84 season, having compiled a 125-203 record. There we go, you should have written the obit msc. We get one extreme or the other it seems; either the obittest (hey why not) decides they are Hemingway all the sudden, such as the immediate obit for Masteroff, or they threw the thing together while eating a Whopper and fries, such as the Wes Hopkins obit I just posted in Football, where it actually said "The Philadelphia Eagles community is grieving another loss Friday as former All-Pro safety West Hopkins has passed away," leaving SirC to edit it to his proper name whilst posting. The Philadelphia Eagles community is grieving another loss Friday as former All-Pro safety Wes Hopkins has passed away. He was 57. The team announced his death Friday. No cause was given. Hopkins spent his entire NFL career in Philadelphia, starting 125 games. Hopkins ranks fifth on the franchise’s all-time interceptions list with 30 and is tied for third in games played among defensive backs with 137. A second-round draft pick in 1983, Hopkins was a member of Southern Methodist Univ’s 2018 Hall of Fame induction class. SC -
In America Steve Smith refers to not one but two NFL players, one who was very special (Carolina Panthers WR), the other not so much (NYGiants WR). We don't give two shites about any other Steve Smiths, notably those you listed. SC

LFN you are in no position to start eliminating people YOU are willing to talk to. What with the hordes who refuse to talk TO you, well there simply won't be anyone left.

Obit calls him a 'librettist'. I have no idea what a 'librettist' is so off I go to learn something (ugh). Edit: re Webster's Online: A person who writes a libretto. Well that was absolutely no fahkin help. Edit2: OK so he wrote the words they sang. Got it. In the world since 1700 we call that a LYRICIST you fuckers!

You may be right VT. It is a bit of a right of passage for the females of our species -- that they outlive the males, in general. That said, unless she's an extreme outlier, these musicians simply don't see 80. She can't have but a few years, no matter how her present health is. Speaking of shock -- 1. I was as shocked seeing the headline as you of course, such a loss, well for us old farts. 2. Slightly more shocking was that it was 40 minutes old when I came here and found no one had posted yet. Believe you me, with the quick triggers and top notch research hounds who are denizens herein, 'twas as stunner I got to post the news. SC

Fuck me how did I forget about him? UGH should have been in every imaginable DP list for September. I hear you Joey, it's a rough go for potential names.

A 66-year-old U.S. Navy veteran dying from cancer has been selling his possessions at weekend yard sales to raise money for his own funeral, reports said Wednesday. Willie Davis, of Cambria County, Pa., was diagnosed with stage 4 squamous cell carcinoma. He plans to raise enough cash to be buried next to his parents in Culpepper, Va., according to his GoFundMe page. I only post this one because it may have a legit shot at a QO. There are PAGES of google hits on this story presently, so it's all over American media. Sadly, no BBC/UK hits though. Doesn't mean it won't happen when it happens. SC
