Jerome Hamon, "the man with three faces", remains in a Paris hospital, three months after undergoing his second face transplant. His new face remains smooth and motionless, with his skull, skin and features yet to be fully aligned, a gradual process reliant on immunosuppressant drugs which, hopefully, will prevent his body rejecting the transplanted material. "I feel very well in myself," the 43-year-old transplant recipient told reporters last week as he continues his recovery from the surgery which was carried out on January 15 and 16. SC

The former publisher of The Fiji Times, Brian O'Flaherty has died. Mr O'Flaherty passed away very suddenly last Friday night at their home in Dubbo, NSW, Australia. The Fiji Times held a special place in his heart both from his time spent there from 1992 to 1996 and especially when we all came back in 2011. SC

Here's someone primed for suicide: The former head of China’s insurance regulatory body has been formally charged with bribery and abuse of power, prosecutors said on Monday, becoming the most senior financial regulator to be targeted in a continuing crackdown on corruption. Xiang Junbo, 61, took advantage of his position to amass “an enormous amount of assets” first as a deputy governor of the central bank, then as head of the state-owned Agricultural Bank of China, and finally as chairman of the China Insurance Regulatory Commission, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate said in a statement. And for the record 'the mum of Katie Price' isn't a celeb. -
Absolutely. His magic act was quite entertaining, many clips can be found on Youtube, but 'Hello Sucker' was an hour long special that aired like 30 years ago maybe. Thanks to Youtube it can be found immediately and free. Worth the time spent. SC

A Russian journalist who had reported recently on clandestine Russian paramilitary groups in Syria died on Sunday after falling from the balcony of his fifth-floor apartment in Yekaterinburg, the authorities there said. The journalist, Maksim Borodin, 32, was hospitalized in a coma after he was found sprawled out below his balcony in the city’s Kirov district on Thursday, according to New Day, the local news agency where he had worked. On Sunday morning, he died. Investigators summoned to the scene had found the door to his apartment locked from the inside, a police spokesman, Valery Gorelykh, told the local E1 news agency. “Those facts suggest that no one left the apartment and that there were probably no strangers there,” he said. While the police are still investigating Mr. Borodin’s death, it is not being treated as suspicious, Russia’s Investigative Committee said in a statement. SC

I'm so very sorry people. I SHOULD have started by saying that I (along with my younger sister) created the (girl) baby naming rules that are disallowed: NEVER name your daughter after: 1) Flowers (Rose, Iris, Daisy, etc) 2) Months (April, May, June....) 3) Abstract ideas/emotions (Faith, Hope, etc etc). We agreed to those rules when we were in our teens, even dumb teenagers know enough not to saddle a child with such poppycock. As a geology major allow me to add please do not name your child after a mineral (or Crystal...). There was a 'Beryl' in my geology class..... she may have been fetching but that name....fingernails - chalkboard.... Ruby, Sapphire, etc are pole dancer names. Or your pet. SC (PS: My daughter's middle name violates this (Rose) but that was probably my fault coupled with the fact the hospital demanded a full name like the day after she was born, and frankly we never bothered with what her middle name might be. Rose was her GG-Grandmother's name and the link to her Native American heritage so I suggested it, wah lah).

Well here's the obit used in Wiki. Not a QO of course.

I find Ian quite listenable as well. Mr. Bell had dulcet tones born for radio lol...well true though. Ian and Mr. Nouri are just a couple of fellows who have taken Bell's stead. But I enjoy their work as hosts and interviewers, too. Of course much of the show's hocus pocus is hogwash in general, but when I am driving 14 hours to work -- many of which are through the nighttime hours -- it's good company. SC

Having no idea who Mr. Chesney was, and being the most helpful person on DL (sure my reputation precedes me, and you all know this, but I only point this out for some new members), I went searching for an obit for Phantom (I mean for Chesney, not Phantom. I ... mean....I'd have no way......oh never mind). In this case Google wasn't quite my friend, because 85% of the links referred to THIS Ronald Chesney. And unless the links are missing a very key fact, the harmonica-playing Chesney (b. 1920) is still alive! SC

A 35-year-old woman flower vendor was trampled to death by an elephant when she tried to touch the jumbo in reverence during a temple festival at Seevalaperi near here in the small hours of Sunday. SC

Near death, but alive for now. A Hong Kong woman visiting Cebu was seriously injured after a cliff-top selfie. Lau Ten Yan, aged 35, was hoping for the perfect picture from a 15-foot escarpment on Osmeña Peak on Saturday (April 14). She lost her footing due to strong winds and suffered a deep cut to her stomach in the fall. SC

A tree removal worker died after a fall from a tree on Saturday morning. Police said the 28-year-old man was working when the tree he was working on broke at its base, resulting in his fall. Police said the man was wearing a harness as he climbed 45ft to begin removing the top portion of the tree. The tree, with the worker still attached, fell directly to the ground. SC

FTR Art Bell was awesome, and his show was incredibly entertaining. His loss saddens Sir Creep.

Why is there a thread for this band, it opens a can of worms. I'm guessing that was hashed out in 2006 when football_fan started the damned thing. But I'm not giving the thread credence enough to read it and find out. SC

Now goddamit.....I almost posted in Law & Order, went with Suicidal Celebs. Never thought it was posted here. Apologies, but you don't deserve to post it if you couldn't come up with 'he was a flamer' or a 'flaming homo' or whatever. It was SO obvious you are banished from posting until you prove yourself worthy of proper 1-liners. SC Edit -- I see Roey posted too. Same goes for him.

Talk about a FLAMING homosexual!.... A lawyer nationally known for being a champion of gay rights died after setting himself on fire in Prospect Park in Brooklyn early Saturday morning and leaving a note exhorting people to lead less selfish lives as a way to protect the planet, the police said. The remains of the lawyer, David S. Buckel, 60, were found near Prospect Park West in a field near baseball diamonds and the main loop used by joggers and bikers. Mr. Buckel left a note in a shopping cart not far from his body and also emailed it to several news media outlets, including The New York Times. Mr. Buckel was the lead attorney in Brandon v. County of Richardson, in which a Nebraska county sheriff was found liable for failing to protect Brandon Teena, a transgender man who was murdered in Falls City, Neb. Hilary Swank won an Academy Award for her portrayal of Mr. Teena in the 1999 movie “Boys Don’t Cry.” SC
