Ahmed I, Emperor of the Ottoman Empire, died this day a nice round 400 years ago (27). He is notable for finally doing away with the insane Ottoman tradition of royal fratricide upon gaining the throne. Unlike his father, who had 19 of his brothers killed, Ahmed left his lone and much younger brother alone. Having left no issue, apparently, it would be his younger brother's three boys who would ascend to the throne in years to come.

Christ has it been 20 years? Amazing....

Emmerson Mnangagwa?? At least I could pronounce Mugabe.

The Wiki entry is asking for proof/citation as you noted. Parkinson would assuredly get a NYTimes obit, so I'll maintain doubts as to the veracity of his death at this time. SC

Ventilator took a three count.

70 isn't that old at all for being able to beat back cancer for a calendar year. 2 or 3 frankly. Granted it's her second go-round, but I don't see her as a goner 2018. Is Sir Creep wrong -- more times than not, so maybe someone can post stats showing why she is likely to die before Dec 2018. If she dies, it'll go on the pile of 'misses' I am accumulating. SC

Thatcher, just wanted to say I appreciate the effort you put into your posts. Didn't want you to think it goes unnoticed or unappreciated. SC

Very sorry to hear it. RIP

You know that's now how this thread works, right? There is zero subjectivity in't. I may (and don't) give two shits about Michael Jackson, and feel a mite poorly that Ms. Fawcett died. My feeling on the matter aren't relevant, it's the worldwide scope that dictates. That said, in reality it was perhaps the biggest day of record with the incredible (and varied) clout of Manson-Novotna-Reese (and throw Mel Tillis in the same 24 hour news cycle), so I guess the guy who lost out was the dude who played Grandpa Huxtable lol. SC
-
I think it's pretty fair to add Jana Novotna's name to this list, dying the same day as Charles Manson. Along with anyone else who's death will be eclipsed by Manson's before this day ends. SC

WOO HOO My alma mater high school Franklin Patriots are playing for the state championship! You gotta understand -- the three years I attended we won 7 total games. To say football wasn't our strong suit is an understatement. Looks like things have turned around SC -
American Football Players

J.C. Caroline, a star Illinois running back in the 1950s who played for the Chicago Bears for a decade, has died. He was 84.Caroline, a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, led the nation in rushing for Illinois in 1953 with 1,256 yards in nine games. He signed with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League in 1955 before joining the Bears a year later, where he mainly played defensive back. He made the Pro Bowl as a rookie and finished with 24 career interceptions. SC -
Mickey Mantle was a souse and still -- and let's not dance on the head of a pin, it was purely due to name recognition -- not only was approved for a transplant, but bypassed plenty of regular folk like you and I to get one. What did he last, 6 months? POS. I will actually be sad to see Mr. Cassidy go. It was American pop culture right about the time it started to matter to me, in that age 7+ bracket. SC
-
Still nothing 12+ hours later. It would seem incredulous an actor of any repute in pop culture would go unnoticed, not in the modern news cycle of 10 minutes. That said, I'm one to usually call BS right away, but something says hold off till about noon Sunday and if still nothing, then it's friggin hogwash. SC

So How's Your 2018 Shortlist Looking?
Sir Creep replied to Joey Russ's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
We've been down this road a few times, maybe 150,000 followers vs 500K. The answer invariably is 'no'. But....if it's worth a punt, you could get big points. As Sir Creep always says, the only people guaranteed not to obit are the living. He has Qureshi and Lakovic in DDP this year to prove it. SC -
What is your favourite Subway sandwich
Sir Creep replied to Charlotte's Controller's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Funny thing is if you ask the Subway employees, they almost always say the tuna fish is the best -- and I'm like yes but I can make that shit at home. My daughter likes anything regular like a cold cut combo or turkey or summat so long as we put (light) mayo on it and the Mexican cheese and tomatoes and cucumbers, so I typically get a 12" and have them cut it up so she gets 1/3. Subway is our special go to place. Oh, and flatbread is the way to go with almost any sandwich, meatball aside lol. Trust me on this. Once you go flat, you'll never go back. SC -
