Nancy Friday, a dissatisfied daughter of the sexual revolution whose best-selling books aimed to liberate women from embarrassment over their erotic fantasies and from fraught relationships with their mothers, died Nov. 5 at her home in Manhattan. She was 84. The cause was complications from Alzheimer’s disease. Placing an anonymous advertisement in newspapers and magazines, she received hundreds of letters and conducted scores of interviews that formed the basis of “My Secret Garden,” a survey of female sexual fantasies that aimed to show women that there was nothing shameful or embarrassing about such daydreams — and to show men that women’s sexual imaginations existed. Goddamn, I should place such an ad. SC

Michigan’s first black female federal judge, Anna Diggs Taylor, has died at age 84. Taylor’s death was announced Monday at the Detroit federal courthouse. She died Saturday at an assisted living center in Grosse Pointe Woods following a brief illness. Taylor was appointed to the federal bench in 1979 by President Jimmy Carter. She was chief judge in Michigan’s Eastern District in 1997 and 1998. She retired in 2011. Maybe first 'black' vs 'female' but I get to combine my two ideas (the Admins won't allow a 'first black' thread....don't ask me, ask them). SC

Minnesota Twins third base coach, and 32-year coaching veteran (3rd longest in MLB history), Rick Stelmaszek, who also oversaw the bullpen, organized spring training, tutored the catchers and kept generations of Twins players entertained with his droll and biting sense of humor, died Monday of pancreatic cancer in Chicago. Stelmaszek, the longest-serving uniformed employee in Twins history, was 69. SC

Frank Liberto died peacefully of natural causes surrounded by family at his home in San Antonio on Sunday — a day shy of National Nachos Day, which is befitting for the man known as the “father of nachos.” Liberto, 84, ran Liberto Specialty Co. Inc. and was founder of Ricos Products Co. The San Antonio company can be thanked in stadiums and movie theaters across the country for introducing the nation’s first “concession nachos” in 1976. There's a joke in here about children in the ghetto, 'nacho father', etc...but I think I'll let it slide. SC

A recluse, Awadh Prince Ali Raza, died a pauper in an abandoned 14-century Delhi palace, 'Malcha Mahal.' He was found dead on the floor near his wooden bed when some staff members from the ISRO station next door entered the Mahal to check on him. What a fantastic place to die! sign me up (just not too soon lol) I also hope this isn't a story from the past, kinda hard to tell so I went with it anyway. Sue me. SC

Popular Central New York-based singer and vlogger Hannah Stone is dead at age 16. Stone died of an apparent suicide on Wednesday, Nov. 1, after taking a month-long break from social media in October. Additional details were not available, but one of her final tweets said "I'll never be able to describe how sorry I am." She was less than two weeks shy of her 17th birthday. Stone was a rising star on social media, with more than 375,000 followers on live video streaming site YouNow, where she posted vlogs and performed covers of songs by artists like Justin Bieber, Sam Smith, Ruth B and Lana Del Rey. She also had 25,000 fans -- also known as "Fannahs" -- on Twitter and another 65,000 on Instagram. SC

A lot like her cancer.

When they're shocked and devastated, and no official report of cause of death is given, and the person is under 40, you know it's a suicide. You can fatten up the Suicidal Celebs thread with aplomb on such a hunch, you'll never ever be wrong. SC

Her 2018 obit chances that is. I've given up hope on her death this year. Cunt. SC

I know fans will say silly things sometimes about an official, but it was a fact that Fraser absolutely hated the Detroit Red Wings, and made horrific calls against them at every opportunity. He should have known the Reaper was a Red Wings fan. SC

Oh look the teenagers all loved your childish response. FWIW I'll amuse you further. Those posts are precisely the topic at hand. University Presidents -- am I not supposed to post them? No one has ever heard of ANY of them, but the thread exists. Now, if you are arguing to delete the thread altogether, I'm on your side, my childish teenager. OTOH if you are saying we aren't supposed to post university presidents in the university presidents thread -- well then I'm all ears waiting for who we ARE supposed to post in there. If you're waiting for a university president you know of, well you may get 1 addition per 5 years. As to the politicians, I say the exact same thing. The thread exists, and I think we have all understood we don't post minor people like the mayor of a town. However, all state and federal congresspersons are certainly people we should post in the thread, but if you want to have an intelligent discussion (LMAO) on it, please feel free to explain how that isn't the scope of the thread. However.....I think like local mayors, it is well understood that people who participated in baseball at nothing more than the minor league level couldn't be less important, other than perhaps a guy who was a fucking CLOWN/MASCOT at the minor league level. But by God, I'm so happy you filled the gap with that obit, my teenage friend. If you're to busy to respond, maybe Zsa Zsa's leg or FixedBusiness or Phantom will be happy to be your champion on this one and explain away the differences and defend your posting a clown who appears at minor league baseball games in the baseball thread. I'll assume the family members of all baseball players and concession stand workers are also proper to post here. Am I missing anyone? SC

On the way to the state fair, I drove by the Tiger Truck Stop yesterday for the first time since Tony's death, and didn't think about it till my mind noticed something as we passed -- the cages were gone and just a grassy area. Like my mind expected something there and it was askew, and my mind started filling in the void with memories of the cage etc. Had to explain to my daughter (7) that we couldn't see Tony any more he was in Tiger Heaven. SC

Never heard of any of them. A clown at minor league baseball events—you know, it’s ok to NOT post every single obit you come across (yes I saw and dismissed this one). Is there a bar that isn’t too low for some of you? SC

Officials at the Biltmore Company say the owner of the Biltmore, William Amherst Vanderbilt Cecil, died Tuesday in Asheville, NC. He was 89. Cecil had a career in finance before returning to Asheville in 1960 in hopes of preserving his childhood home, which was the private estate of his grandfather, George Washington Vanderbilt III.

During a tribute to those afflicted with cancer between innings during Game 4 of the World Series on Saturday, Astros manager A.J. Hinch held a card with former Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers’ name on it. A fact previously unknown to the general public, Hinch apparently revealed Towers has cancer. SC
