That means we lost Tommy Hawkins (LA Lakers announcer) in August, and Connie Hawkins (NBA great) and Ben Hawkins (NFL) in one week early October. Might I suggest that Hersey and Michael Hawkins (NBA) and Brent, Andrew, Lavelle and Josh Hawkins (NFL) watch their backs! SC -
Can't blame makeup application for this one.

From Sept 18: Indonesia's House of Representatives Speaker Setya Novanto, will have to skip another questioning session at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) as he has to undergo a medical check-up due to a deteriorating health condition. Golkar politician Nurul Arifin confirmed that Setya would undergo an examination for his heart at the Premier Hospital in Jatinegara, Jakarta. "He is still suffering from vertigo. Previously, doctors also found plaque building up in his heart," Nurul said. (We know the drill -- this sounds like a convenient heart ailment on a day he's supposed to be questioned for corruption of office. But still....). SC

For decades, Purdue University has billed itself the "Cradle of Quarterbacks." No coach did more to maintain that reputation than Joe Tiller. The man who guided Drew Brees as a Boilermaker and was the school's winningest football coach, died Saturday at age 74. He died at home of natural causes in Buffalo, Wyo. SC -
'Journalist' a bit of a misnomer, but where to put this? S.I. Newhouse, the Conde Nast chairman who presided over the magazine world’s glossiest publications and most talked-about editors for more than 40 years, died Sunday. He was 89. Newhouse’s death was confirmed early Sunday by a family spokesman, according to a report on the website of Vogue, one of the cornerstones of the Newhouse family’s publishing empire. SC (Edit: Maybe CEOs more appropriate? Meh...feel free to move as necess)

RIP. He was a solid TV sportscaster. Not sure where your info is coming from, he was the longtime announcer for the Detroit Red Wings. From 1979 to 1996 (if we include his announcing Detroit's minor league affiliate). He announced one season (2015-2016) for the Dallas Stars. SC

The greatest discus thrower in history, Al Oerter, died 10 years ago (age 71). He still remains the only Olympian to win the same event 4 times.
