Pakistani artist Tassaduq Sohail was admitted to Civil Hospital, Karachi in a critical condition and was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on Tuesday. He was brought from Shifa International Hospital, Islamabad, to Karachi today, according to details. However, he does not have any family members attending on him at the hospital and hence the doctors do not have access to his medical history. SC

The Regimental Mascot of 3rd Battalion The Royal Welsh has died, the Army has said. Lance Corporal Shenkin II, a Kashmiri from the Royal Herd at the Great Orme, Llandudno, died on Tuesday aged seven. He made regular appearances at rugby internationals with his handler, Goat Major Sergeant Mark Jackson. A letter has been sent to the Queen officially informing her of Shenkin's death and also asking permission for the regiment to select a new goat. I'm thinking MPFC would be a fine selection as the Welsh goat. SC

Joseph M. McDade, an 18-term Republican congressman who was known for bringing federal dollars home to his northeastern Pennsylvania district and who was acquitted in 1996 on a bribery charge, has died. He was 85. SC Edit: Sorry Thatcher didn't see the post. Surprising the DM had an obit. Scandal produces obits I guess.

Métis activist and retired senator Thelma Chalifoux has died. Chalifoux's daughter, Debbie Coulter, says her mother passed away Friday evening at a care home in St. Albert, near Edmonton, and had been in declining health for some years. She was 88. Chalifoux was appointed to the upper chamber in 1997 and served until she retired at age 75 in 2004. Sir Creep is Métis fwiw. SC

UK publisher J Salmon, a family-owned firm which has been publishing postcards and calendars since 1880, will close this December. The reason? It says instead of penning a card, people are putting photos up on Facebook or Instagram or using WhatsApp to show friends and family at home just how much fun they're having. Brothers Charles and Harry Salmon, the fifth generation of the family to run the firm, said the popularity of social media had had a huge impact on the business. People are also tending to take shorter holidays, meaning they are likely to have arrived home long before their postcards, the brothers - joint managing directors of the firm - said. As a result the business was no longer viable, they said. I recently mailed someone a cheque on a Friday, and we rigged down the oil rig and went home on Monday and I arrived before the cheque. Fahkin US Mail. Anyway, yet another layer of problems they surely encounter. SC

Our political structure is a bit muddling for sure. We have the federal govt (Washington DC) and each state has 2 Senators. Those should obit, even across the Pond. Each state sends numerous Representatives to DC, and due to abundance, they may not (probably won't?) obit in the UK. Each state has it's own govt and senators/representatives. They almost certainly won't obit (this is why I bellyache about the UK DPers having an edge, imagine if tables turned). In fact, even the dramatic cancerous death of Rep Ruth Samuelson (N.C.) this year went all but unnoticed in American outlets not located in North Carolina. I woulda thought they all get a NYTimes obit, but that wasn't the case. Not even close. So there's that. SC

Could a 'furious row' between Miliband and Corbyn lead to fisticuffs? Hospitalisation? OK I just wanted to bump this thread up. Guilty. SC

#50! Fete Accompli! and it's only Sept 25. Since it's so special, let's keep it in motherland Britain. Snake handler Dan Brandon, 31, was found in his home in Church Crookham, Fleet, suffocated to death, in the room in which he kept his snakes, with one pet out of it's pen. Pythons have killed humans before but this could be the first time it has happened in Britain. What a lovely post for my 50th! SC
