Johnny Burke, a Canadian country musician who played with the likes of Glen Campbell and Loretta Lynn, has died. Born Jean Paul Bourque in Rosaireville, N.B., he went on to become a member of the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame and performed the gold-certified single Wild Honey. Burke was 77, and only weeks removed from his last string of concerts. He died Thursday evening of cancer. SC

I really don't want to start another thread, but I would like to put together a few target names as examples of people who did not obit who I find rather astonishing. I think it would help when cobbling together a DDP team, and useful as a litmus test of who NOT to put on your team or to do so with trepidation. Simply looking at the List of the Lost is useless, many of those names were shots in the dark. A couple may be notable though. Don't you folks OWN Canada? I mean...in a manner of speaking. Australia too. So I do find it interesting that Canadian MP Arnold Chan, who's 2-year battle with cancer was certainly known, fails to obit in the UK media. Thus, I guess I am wrong about the tie-in between the countries. Sure, the likes of Chan could be a unique pick on a slow news cycle day, but it wasn't meant to be. I should think, therefore, when compiling a groups of people who will not obit, Canadian MPs must be near the top of the list. SC

Well how about that! Doesn't appear a relapse but the body can't take such excessive swings I reckon.

I DO hope you enjoy our little NFL game we exported to you this morning. I don't expect any converts, but inquisitive observation wouldn't hurt, kinda like when the bloody US of A hosted the World Cup. I actually did convert and enjoy YOUR 'football' very much. SC

Rick Shaw, (born Jim Hummel), credited with introducing South Florida to the Beatles, died Friday morning at 78. It was a Saturday afternoon in 1964. He played "I Want To Hold Your Hand" and about a minute into the song the phones at the WQAM 560AM studio just wouldn't stop ringing. He would play that song for decades. He retired in 2007. SC

I was about to post in Deadio Times -- which is where we've been putting radio personalities (to my knowledge). [An aside: I checked Radio 4 thread and that isn't appropo either]. I found it interesting that in the first post in Deadio Times by MPFC, the intent of that thread was a sort of watchlist for those we should research, which is what THIS thread does. Funny how the initial intent and the subsequent pop usage of the thread differ. Anyway, just something I saw and figured I'd comment. As you were... SC
