Earl Michael “Mike” Schaeffer Jr. of Hays, KS was a survivor of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and a pilot in the first wave of planes in the Battle of Midway during World War II. Dead at 95. SC

Even when you post something worthwhile you screw it up. Never mind pointing out he is West Point's oldest graduate. About the only reason his obit was noticeable. He also loved golfing and designed a course in Pennsylvania, and actively golfed until five years ago (age 100). SC

It was Dick who said goodnight to Dan Rowan 30 years ago (65).

The British.... *sigh* Hell, about 1/3 of Americans for that matter. Here's a lesson in linguistics with visuals I KNOW will help you. If you can pronounce the name of this band.... then you should have NO problem pronouncing the name of this animal.

The entire goddamn country of Dominica is under water and somehow that former PM Patrick John swam his one-legged ass to safety? I call bullshit. Awaiting obit. SC

And of course they fuck up and say he's 95. Great editing. SMH SC

Oh no you don't you backpeddling twat. "There's some sort of confirmation here: (although it cities the FB page) http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/jake-lamotta-dead-family-members-report-passing-raging-bull-boxing-legend-aged-96-1640095" You along with many others 'weren't sure' when it was obvious. You needed some independent source besides his DAUGHTER'S FB page, as if. But that's fine, two hours later you were joking about the prospects of a hoax. My fucking bad. Sorry for my ABSURD misinterpretation. SC
-
I suppose the hoaxer also created hoax FB friends? Oh and created his niece's FB page too (along with FB friends). SMH some real dumb asses are being exposed here today. I'm guessing the people here who just CAN'T wrap their heads around the delay in the person's death and letting others know about it are all under 20 and haven't had the lovely opportunity to experience a parent passing or other close relative. You may find it 'bizarre' that the first thing on your mind may not be telling the world a pop culture icon is dead prior to making arrangements and getting ducks in a row prior to opening Pandora's Box to the upcoming media frenzy. Anyway..... RIP Champ. SC

OK, and please let's set aside 'she was hacked' cuz that would be pure bullshit..... but why would his daughter HOAX her FB page? I say he's dead. SC

We were talking about that--the demise of physical toys. My conclusion is, based on my massive population of 1, that my daughter at least enjoyed the My Little Ponies stuff and Frozen stuff and now into dolls/Barbies. However in a couple years that should be done (say 9 years old). So I suspect a market exists for her, but tend to agree boys likely to pass on the physical toys like that these days. Anyway, I can see how it has come to this.....throw in Amazon etc and it really compounds the problems that every brick & mortar store has to deal with. SC

Earthquakes, Tsunamis, Hurricanes, Mudslides

On Wednesday, Mexico experienced its deadliest earthquake since 1985, with estimates so far that it killed at least 217 people. The quake struck at about 2:15 p.m. ET on Tuesday and had a magnitude of 7.1, the U.S. Geological Survey said. Its epicenter was in the state of Puebla, about 80 miles southeast of Mexico City. It came less than two weeks after a magnitude 8.1 quake hit the country and killed nearly 100. SC -

It's been suggested that I post these people as if they're somehow famous in the States. Nothing could be further from the truth, I've never heard of any of them. No one has. But you created a thread and I'm populating it, period. That for 80% of my posts anywhere, including American politicians. So don't get all self-righteous as if you know the names of all the MPs in the UK past or present. Hell, I'm in the Bi-Election pool so probably know more MP names than you. But I don't know any from 1980. And I don't know a single university president. Ronald E. Carrier, who served as James Madison University's president for 27 years, died Monday. At the age of 85, Carrier has left behind evidence of a transformation of the university from a small college to a major regional university during his tenure. Carrier became president in 1971 at 38 years old, when the 4,000-student school was still Madison College and predominantly populated by women training to be teachers. When Carrier became president, he was the youngest Virginia college president at the time. Before arriving in Harrisonburg, he was vice president of academic affairs at Memphis State University. When he arrived on campus, it was only half a decade after the college started allowing male students to live on campus. SC

Just wanted to post my own conspiracy theory, that they discovered life on Saturn and had no choice but to destroy the evidence. SC

As well you should, not sure why that is so profound as to receive a handful of 'likes'. Am I supposed to know former minor politicians in the UK by name alone? SC
