Lord knows he's a major 'hit' for me should it occur (and it sounds as if it will), but I do not wish him or anyone an ugly or painful series of events on their way off this big blue marble. SC -
OK I'm calling bullshit. Shingles is a HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS condition (I just had it last Fall). No way in hell he would be cleared to fly on a passenger plane after being stupid enough to post his highly contagious condition for all passengers to read. He either doesn't have shingles or isn't flying. SC

The whole incident sounds horrible. Amazing anyone survived, frankly. SC

Yeah, so I'm 825 miles from home and now Harvey is bearing down the coast and onto my house today. I'm pissed cuz this is Texas' storm, not ours. So my poor little Louisiana home is being deluged with at least 8" of water the next 24 hours and more to come --- and as you may recall south Louisiana and particularly Baton Rouge got crushed by last August's flooding. If that thing parks over Louisiana we are screwed, and I'm not at home to see what's up or save anything. My daughter is off of school at least today, probably most of the week, and with her mom so she's ok. I suspect my home is ok floodwater-wise, but house damage who knows. I have a metal roof so there's that, but an oak tree can take care of that right quick. Damn storm should have stayed in Texas like all our Louisiana hurricanes do, we don't foist our troubles onto neighbouring states. The NERVE ~~ SC -
Lacey Putney, the longest-serving state legislator in Virginia’s history who earned the respect of his peers for being a courtly Southern politician, died Saturday. He was 89. Putney, who served in the House of Delegates for 52 years, will lie in state in the Rotunda of the State Capitol, where flags will fly at half-mast in his memory. He will be the first House member to lie in state since Speaker A.L. Philpott in 1991. SC

I'm working in Pecos, TX, so out of the way though one computer model has it coming right at us in a week (it's the desert, so that much rain would be interesting). My house, however, is alone and lonely in Breaux Bridge, LA and the outer bands are certainly dumping rain over the next few days. However, it should be under 15 inches at most, and last year we had 20+ inches in 3 days as you may recall creating massive flooding in southern LA, though my property and shitty house seemed to fair pretty well. I won't be home for 12 days or so yet, so if something happens, I guess a neighbour will have to inform me. SC -

Well, this fucker Harvey is a Cat 3 now. I'm well out of the way, and Carol Ann is north of Dallas so safe too, but if any of y'all are anywhere near Houston/Corpus Cristi area, get the hell outta the way. It's going to be a monster. SC

New Jersey's oldest resident, who once credited her longevity to a daily dose of Miller High Life and Johnnie Walker Blue Label, died Thursday morning in her Englewood home, three weeks after turning 112. Agnes Fenton, who had lived in Englewood since the 1950s, was given the unusual prescription of alcohol by her doctor in 1943 for a benign tumor. She kept it up for decades, before quitting drinking in the last few years as she began to eat less and was restricted to a wheelchair and attended by her nurses. Born Agnes Jones on Aug. 1, 1905, in Holly Springs, Mississippi, Fenton owned the Pal's Duck Inn restaurant in Tennessee, where she was one of the first black women to own a restaurant in the state. She moved north to Englewood with her second husband, Vincent Fenton, who died in 1970. The Fentons had no children. SC

A brief but informative article about brain cancer (Glioblastoma) and statistical data. Most useful thing here is "the average survival time from diagnosis is 14 months with treatment." Keep that in mind when considering old man John McCain, etc., for 2018. SC

Seeing as he won't obit, no sense in hiding him. Travel blogger and former "Pinoy Big Brother" housemate Wil Dasovich (25) released his "most important vlog" yet on Thursday, in which he revealed he has been diagnosed with cancer. Dasovich is in the United States, where he underwent a series of medical checkups after he experienced internal bleeding. SC

Well well well..... Oregon Sen. Jackie Winters announced Wednesday evening that she is undergoing treatment for lung cancer after a tumor was discovered by doctors toward the end of this year's legislative session. Winters, 80, said she developed a persistent cough and after some tests a cancerous tumor was located in her right lung. Additional testing concluded that the tumor was "localized and curable," she said. [Of course it is, honey] Winters had heart surgery in January 2016 to clear a blocked aorta. She was also hospitalized in 2014 after feeling faint. In her statement, Winters added that she will continue to serve in the senate and plans on seeking re-election in 2018. SC

Her throat is raw from the radiation, she’s dropped from 128 lbs. to 89.4 lbs., and husband Billy says doctors have given them somber survival statistics (as low as 3 percent) — but Ami, 53, refuses to give up hope. SC
