Not worth the points of wasting a roster spot imho. What is he, 3 or 4 max? He's not going to be a unique pick when you turn his name in. It's a pointless DDP team inclusion...damn near. SC

#40: UPDATE Sadly, the Malayan tiger that killed the Palm Beach Zoo 'Tiger Whisperer' employee last year died in surgery late Thursday, the zoo announced. The 14-year-old tiger, Hati, had surgery last week for “irritations in his guts,” the zoo said. The tiger had surgery again Thursday. Zoo staff said it didn’t appear Hati had more damage, but during recovery the tiger stopped breathing and could not be revived. SC

The most basic retort is 'oh it's ok for a British cancer mum who could possibly obit, but an American cancer mum has no chance'. I will state vociferously it is IMPOSSIBLE for an American to fully research local fare in the U.K. It just is. Just as it would be nearly impossible for you to discover the weatherman in Topeka, KS has stage 4 lymphoma (in a game using all American sources as QOs), it's the same vice versa. How about an absurd rule if someone in the U.K. dies they must obit in the NYTimes, Chicago Tribune, Washington Post, or LA Times. "Well, hey if they aren't internationally famous enough ...bloviating blah blah'. It's a ridiculous comment. As for the Lauren Hills of the world, no DP anywhere--but here--allows for people who aren't famous except for their illness. I appluaded Shameless for mocking that oversight, and still do. But with the conclusion of Shameless, just eliminate that loophole. SC

If your going to do that, then the Irish Times would have eliminated about 20% of the Lost members 2017. Just sayin. SC

VERY cool article about some kid in British Columbia who decided to track down the final resting places of all the B.C. premiers in history, only to find one missing. I promise it's worth the quick read. "It has the locations of those graves and even the plot numbers should anyone want to retrace his steps." There's a lot of Sir Creep in this story, and I am guessing a lot of each of you as well, or else why would you be here. This guy is an honorary member of the site, I so nominate. SC

One of the last renowned umps I can think of. Former major league umpire Ken Kaiser, a colorful figure between the lines who briefly moonlighted as a professional wrestler to make ends meet while working in the minor leagues, has died. He was 72. The World Umpires Association said Thursday he died in his hometown of Rochester, N.Y., on Tuesday. Kaiser had diabetes for years. An American League umpire from 1977-99, Kaiser umpired two World Series, one All-Star Game and several playoff series. SC
  13. It was a day for a big celebration in Strongsville Sunday, as a local Guiness Book of World Records holder added another candle onto her birthday cake. Winifred Ann Kelley, who is the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest living person in the world with dwarfism, marked her 94th birthday. I take it munchkins are strictly midgets then....cuz obviously Jerry Maren is 96. SC

Update on Boston Red Sox announcer Jerry Remy, who is battling cancer for the fifth time. "I’m still recovering from the lung cancer surgery I had back in June and will soon enter the next stage of my cancer treatment. I’ve met with my doctors and I’ll start receiving chemotherapy treatments late this month," Remy said. SC

    Art For Death's Sake

Alan Peckolick, who overcame a failed art school career to emerge as a leading designer of some the world’s most distinctive logos, died on Aug. 3 in Danbury, Conn. He was 76. His typography distinguished familiar logos, like GM’s (just the two initials underscored by a muscular solid bar), and the typefaces for company names, including Pfizer, Revlon and Mercedes-Benz, and institutions like New York University and the City College of New York. Ideas And Possibilities For 2018

My first dog when I was 4 yrs old was named Mitzi, and I always get a kick that that is actually a name someone would give a human. Just like when will we be Dickless, it can't be long before we are Mitziless, as it's a pretty archaic name that can't possibly be used to punish some poor girl nowadays -- (See Fanny Flagg). Other than Mitzi Gaynor there weren't too many I can think of, thought Mitzi Shore is certainly one. Easy obit. SC
