James Galton, the former president and CEO of Marvel Entertainment Group who is widely credited with saving the famed comic book company from bankruptcy in the 1970s, has died. He was 92. Galton died Monday surrounded by his family at his home in Naples, Fla. SC

Emil Venkov, the Bulgarian sculptor who created the statue of Vladimir Lenin that presides over Fremont, died on June 9 at the age of 79, according to his son Ivan.The Association of Slovak Artists also put out a statement recognizing Venkov’s contributions to monumentalist sculpture in Slovakia. Venkov’s 16-foot bronze of Lenin — weighing eight tons — depicts the Communist revolutionary leader emerging from leaping flames. It had been commissioned by the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and was installed in the city of Poprad in the former Czechoslovakia in 1988. Poprad is now in Slovakia. SC

Gordon “Drewe” Henley, 75, had a long acting career, but was well-known for his role as X-Wing Squadron Red Leader Garven Dreis in “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope,” according to the Daily Mail. Parts of the film that featured Henley were also used in the most recent film in the franchise, “Rogue One.” “Episode IV” was the last film Henley, who was previously married to English actress Felicity Kendal, appeared in. He was diagnosed with manic depression after filming completed and he then retired from acting. In 2013, Henley was diagnosed with vascular dementia and may have had drug-related Parkinsonism due to long-term use of antipsychotic medication. He was admitted to the Franklyn Hospital's mental health unit six times between September 2015 and his death. SC

The Greek immigrant who created one of the world's most popular and controversial pizzas - Hawaiian pizza - in his restaurant in Canada more than 50 years ago, has died. Sam Panopoulos - who earned a place in history by putting canned pineapple and ham on a pizza at his Satellite Restaurant in Chatham, Ontario in 1962 - was 83 and had just celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary with his wife Christina. Sir Creep says he should have been shot on sight the day after creating this hot mess. SC

Former Alaska Attorney General Grace Berg Schaible died Friday night at age 91 in her Fairbanks home. Schaible served as attorney general from 1987 to 1989, the first woman to serve in that post. SC
