A Navy SEAL skydiver and member of the group's "Leap Frogs" team died Sunday after his parachute failed to open during an aerial exhibition that was part of Fleet Week festivities in New York City. The group was conducting a coordinated jump into Liberty State Park shortly after noon, Rear Adm. Jack Scorby said in a press conference. When the parachute didn't open, the skydiver cut himself loose so he would land in the water. When he splashed down, he was "retrieved immediately by US Coast Guard and the Jersey City Fire Department Marine Unit" and taken to a nearby hospital. He was pronounced dead at 1:10 p.m. (His name wasn't released as family hadn't been notified when story went to press....I'll edit later). SC -
Former Greek Prime Minister Constantine Mitsotakis, one of Greece's most prominent veteran politicians, died early on Monday, his family said. He was 98. SC Edit: OK I see it was posted but I not only make no apologies (the search function was looking for Mitsotakis, and didn't stop on 'Dead'), but call the poster of Dead an ass for not posting names we can search. Do better. This one's on you.

#25 (halfway there!): Here's a zoo with a bad omen. One of Lehigh Valley Zoo's newest additions died Sunday at around 1 p.m. Ernie, a 6-year old Masai giraffe, died of injuries sustained to his neck just two days after arriving at the zoo, according to a news release from zoo officials. Ernie had been separated from his father, Murphy, after becoming aggressive toward his parent for unknown reasons on Friday. Bringing the Masai giraffes to the Lehigh Valley Zoo was a part of a $3.8 million investement that saved the zoo from closing. The giraffe exhibit alone cost around $700,000, but was expected to generate around $400,000 in revenue annually. SC

WASHINGTON (AP) — The top Democrat on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has undergone a heart procedure and will remain hospitalized for a few days. That's the word from Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland. He says in a statement that he had what he calls a "minimally invasive medical procedure" on Wednesday — a transarterial aortic valve replacement — at Johns Hopkins Hospital to treat aortic stenosis. Don't get all warm in the crotch for your matriarch. Who the fuck was she, other than some cunt that some dude who just so happened to be born into some genealogy lottery winner asked 'hey cunt I'm feelin all matrimonial and shit'. All the sudden she's SOMEONE? Fuck her. At least the old leather-faced ratbag made some worldwide accomplishments other than flying the company plane to Africa for a photo op. RIP .... no one can deny his rockin blues singing chops. Great artist, great loss. SC (Edit: Oh and of course he's 69, right in that 67-72 range they're all dying in. Egad.) (Edit2: I haven't researched liver transplants per se, but seems just thinking about it that 7 years is a pretty good push after having one. I wouldn't bet more than 5 in most cases. But maybe the numbers prove me a fool).

The rate of people dying from Alzheimer’s disease in the United States rose by 55% over a 15-year period, new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows. Now I know the bulk of folks here are not in America, and it's $$ to travel here (that is if you can get past the first question: why would you? lol). But that said, New Orleans has to be in the top 10 destinations, so if ever any of you DO happen this way, by all means mention it and maybe Sir Creep will buy you some jambalaya and gumbo in the Big Easy. It would be cool just to meet one of you. The odds of me heading to the U.K. in the next few years is remote, but would definitely like to visit again (it's been 17 years), so we shall see. SC
