Mere hours before his inauguration?? Coincidence? Legendary journalist Wayne Barrett, a Donald Trump biographer and investigative reporter for nearly 40 years with the Village Voice, died Thursday. He was 71. Barrett had been battling lung cancer and interstitial lung disease. Barrett’s family said he had recently developed pneumonia, which worsened his condition. There would be no Deliverance of James Dickey 20 years ago. All the leaves were brown and the sky was grey for Denny Doherty 10 years ago.

I've heard it argued here that there should have been doubts he was going to obit. Bullshit. It's astonishing and a miscarriage of journalism that your U.K. tabloids didn't print an obit for the lead singer of Toto. They had international #1 hits. Along with Bockwinkle, I don't get it. Maybe knowing more of the events of those dates may help--maybe big stories that pushed these deaths out of space in the print cycle. SC

Careful, you don't want to upset SC. LOL True dat. Moreso 'Belgian cartoonist' used in a sentence on a website loosely concerned with a minutia of fame. Like stories about Estonian club owners. SC

#3: Dozens of false killer whales, a type of dolphin, are dead following a stranding in Everglades National Park in South Florida, officials said Monday. A total of 95 dolphins are dead after they became stranded off Hog Key, according to officials with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Fisheries. Some of the dolphins were deeply embedded into mangroves. SC http://www.nbcmiami.com/news/local/Dozens-of-False-Killer-Whales-Die-in-Stranding-in-South-Florida-410847825.html

With the rash of absolute nobodies being posted this past week -- and I think we know who we can attribute that to (look no further than the entry above this), allow me to post someone who should likely not get his 15 minutes but shall. Former California State Librarian Kevin Starr, who is deemed the pre-eminent historian of the Golden State, has died. He was 76. Starr died of a heart attack Saturday at a hospital in San Francisco. Starr, a professor of history at the University of Southern California, researched and wrote "Americans and the California Dream," a series of books considered the definitive account of the California story. Kids today have other interests and so many other fun things to choose from. Parents dislike the animal abuse issues as well. Surprised circuses like this one have lasted so long. Not high-tech enough for many younger people. I honestly thought circuses were a thing that died out in the 80s, so I was surprised to see the news. That style of circus has been dying out since the 80s, people are more inclined to spend a fortune watching Cirque Du Soleil style circuses, or rather just be a spectator to the political circus. Along that point, I took my daughter to see this circus two years ago and it was maybe $15-25/per. No Lions jumping through fire like the olden days. Cirque Du Soliel is like $80+ each and there's no way I would ever spend that. I don't understand a single one of you who would/have. SC

No. Y-dub posts obits in English; I'm sick to death of our neophyte friend who can't seem to avoid Rosetta Stone obit posting. I sent a complaint to Admins asking them to ask him to clean up his foreign-posting arse. They won't, and Sir Creep will be deemed the bad actor here. Speaks volumes to 'administering' the website. Speak English or Die. Ditto posting. I mean for fuxsake. If YOU can't read it, neither can fucking I. SirC

But many of us thought he reaked of fraud. Therefore, he is not a true miss. Of the ones who were brought up in this thread, he's probably the smallest miss. Precisely. Not a big miss at all based on industry-wide fraud (see Graham, Roberts, etc etc). Sadly I probably duped by george Steele and Constantino. SC

Because deciding who to put from picks 10-40 was any times a toss up, I had considered a DDP team of my'next 20 best' picks. With Long and a few others already I'd be cleaning house. Oh well. SC

As you know my mother passed away almost two years ago to the day, and similarly suffered from Alzheimer's the last 5 years or so. She never had the total forgetfulness but was more prone to panic attacks so I would field my share of 3am phone calls and tell her it would be ok from 1200 miles away. So I'm so terribly sorry you have had to go through that horrible disease that strips away the ones we love and who we know love us if only they could. Magere, please accept my meager condolences and may you always have the fondest of memories of your mum. SirC

David Modell, the son of former Cleveland Browns owner, Art Modell, has died. Modell, 55, died after a two-year battle with lung cancer. He served as President of the Baltimore Ravens from the team's beginning in 1996 through their Super Bowl XXXV championship win in 2000 and continued to lead the team until 2004. SC http://www.newsnet5.com/sports/browns/david-modell-son-of-former-cleveland-browns-owner-art-modell-has-died-at-55 Edit: I remain a bit stunned Bryan Weidmeier never got an obit, but here's a bump higher in the litmus test. NFL executive but also the son of an infamous owner. Let's see if he obits. Frankly Id give it 75% chance, meaning I'll be rather surprised if he doesn't. -
Paula Dell, a pioneering stuntwoman and acrobat who was once shot out of a cannon in Thoroughly Modern Millie as Carol Channings stand-in, died Monday. She was 90 years old. Can Carol be far behind? SC http://ew.com/movies/2017/01/13/paula-dell-dead-hollywood-stuntwoman-dies-90/ [back to Dell: In her nearly 40-year Hollywood career, Dell served as stunt double for Julie Andrews in Star! (1968) and Jaclyn Smith on the original Charlies Angels series. Dell also did work for Camelot (1967), Blazing Saddles (1974), Airplane! (1980), Mystery Men (1999), and more.]
