Magic Johnson, And Other Basketball Players
Sir Creep replied to Death Watch Beatle's topic in DeathList Forum
RIO GRANDE, Ohio - A man who scored a record-setting 113 points in an NCAA basketball game in 1954 and put his small Ohio college on the sports map has died. Clarence "Bevo" Francis was 82. William Roberts of Roberts Funeral Home says Francis died Wednesday at his southern Ohio home. The Hammondsville native scored an NCAA single-game record of 113 points for Rio Grande College in a game against Michigan's Hillsdale College on Feb. 2, 1954. Late 2013 came by to look at rules, as I was putting together my first DP and wanted various rules to incorporate. Paid some attention to DL for 2014 but not a lot. Came back late 2014 and began posting a few obits as a Guest, decided to join up. Now a regular, currently 68th most prolific poster ever, in a mere 6 months. Moving on up. SirC

Maybe wrong thread--didn't see anything for barristers/attorneys/lawyers. Move if necess. GUATEMALA CITY — The lawyer representing former dictator Efrain Rios Montt against genocide charges was shot to death while driving in Guatemala's capital Wednesday. Francisco Palomo was shot at least 12 times in the chest and face.... SC http://mobile.nytimes.com/aponline/2015/06/03/world/americas/ap-lt-guatemala-dictators-lawyer-killed.html?_r=0&referrer=

Jim Ed Brown got the all clear from cancer a couple of months ago, however the disease has now returned. Shit he was my joker for next year. That 'disease' is called lung cancer in an 81-yr old. I knew he was dead meat. SC

Sorry DDT I missed this entry but yes indeed you are the keeper of all knowledge!! Well done, sir! SC

Some excellent guesses. The answer, I am to understand, is that all the elected MPs in these constituencies were OLDER than the person they replaced. Very nice beginners list for DL interests, as they have a head start, as it were. SC (Edit: DDT in fact guessed correctly :-)

Alzheimer's deals with forgetfulness whereas dimentia deals with figments of one's imagination, a false reality. My mother recently passed and suffered from both. Forgetting to bathe oneself for a week is Alzheimer's, talking to me when I visit thinking I'm her dead brother, that's dimentia. What elder abuse did BB King suffer? That's news to me. SC

Not really 2016, but maybe 2018. Jillion Potter, USA rugby hopeful, completes chemo for tumor on jaw, was previously on Olympic squad hoping to come back for 2016. She's a nobody now, but should she make it and participate, her story may be interesting enough for an obit, but shes probably ok for a couple years yet. Who can say? Note article says 'she and her WIFE' have concerns I cancer returning, so we aren't dancing on the head of a pin with words like her partner or companion ;-) SC http://olympictalk.nbcsports.com/2015/04/30/jillion-potter-rugby-cancer-olympics/

YoungWillz and gcreptile: For two of the best posters around here I'm begging you two to quit being Post whores! (I accept the irony but there isn't an alternative medium.) Why the hell did you re-open a totally dead thread Governmental Heads of State (and a couple others)???? I guess Political Frailty was unacceptable for this politician, so a thread that went unused for 3 years became necessary. (See also: 'American Politicians over 85' thread suddenly reborn, cuz Political Frailty couldn't POSSIBLY cover them.) I direct you to one of the best posts I've read on this site, one which is never discussed but should be pinned IMO. It's seminal to this site. http://www.deathlist.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=2803&hl=%2Bpost+%2Bwhore Attention to be paid to #1 particular, #3 if shoe fits. It isnt a question of quality at all--you're two of the best posters here. But we've 50 (?) or so threads already, opening redundant ones is clutter. Maybe it's the weeding librarian in me. Sometimes less is more. SC

That's a bit unfair on someone who genuinely was a close friend and nothing more! Assumptions can be dangerous - I once knew two elderly ladies who lived together, whom I assumed to be a lesbian couple. Turned out they were sisters. When I was growing up in the Seventies and Eighties there were a number of elderly spinsters who lived together but in many cases these were close friends who had lost fiances during the war and never entered into other relationships. I'll willingly give you any terminology to describe friendship of the hetero- deceased you can come up with besides 'companion'. You have a same sex 'companion', you're outed. Find me a single obit to the contrary and I shall change my opinion.SC I don't understand. Are you saying that the word "companion" is now exclusively a synonym for "homosexual lover" or whatever you want to call it? Because I for one don't use it as such. It would be a pity if it went the same way as the previously versatile but neutral word "partner". I'm saying precisely that. Now that you mention it, 'partner' has to be given more thought as well , and may well fail the hetero- litmus test, as it infers a union of sorts. No one calls their same sex best friend co-tennant a partner. But I digress; as for Companion, my offer still stands.SC [edit: sorry should have said I thought we were talking about the wording of obits not necessarily how you and I use the words in conversation. I think yes the media has attached these connotations to those words. And by bombarding is with their connotations they're effectively changing how those words are defined in terms of human relationships].

No, you're not reading it correctly. There were three people in the car - the driver and 2 passengers. "... police opened fire at a car with three Singaporean men after they tried to crash through a barricade outside the annual summit's venue, the Shangri-La Hotel. The 34-year-old driver was killed and one passenger was wounded and hospitalized. Both passengers are now under arrest." Ok well that makes sense.

C'mon RadGuy, it's multiples of 5 or otherwise we would post not only a ghastly pile of obits daily, but the same ghastly pile of obits every year. Look at all the other posts -- multiples of 5. SC
