    Aussie ready to pop

Interesting that I posted elsewhere just now that newbies should be banned from creating threads for 90 days. This is Exhibit A, your Honour. Please delete this thread and ban the creator from posting for a month, in which time they will actually read the forum before deciding they’re worthy of commenting, suggesting, creating, or existing in any noticable format to the rest of us. They may also discover and explore the ‘search box’ at the top right of the page. Who knows? SC

    The Dead of 2018

I already made a comment along the lines if someone thinks I’m posting in the 2017 thread they’re a loony. Just make a notation ‘died in 2017’ in your post if you feel so compelled, that’s my suggestion. I actually underlined ‘died on Christmas’ and still got called out, like someone couldn’t figure out that was 2017. Smh SC

    From Cleric To Relic

More like the Nabeel Qureshi of 2018. GL with that QO. SC
  4. Can an Admin please change the title to something proper like Who Will Be THE NEXT RS To Die?.....it ignores Brian Jones, at the very least. ‘Guest Tom Green’ was an idiot when he created the thread. That’s why guests should never ever be allowed to create a thread. Nor anyone in their first 90 days of membership.

BTW, it was 17-year old Dana Scattan who I was willing to go to war over the 'must be 18 on Jan 1' rule. Talk about slam dunks! I still feel so long as they are 18 at death, you get points, otherwise of course not. It's the risk we take, just like any of our selections, for that matter. We had this issue with Malala Yousafzi a couple years back -- a Nobel Prize winner who was already taking bullets and we couldn't put on our teams. Absurd! Anyway, Sorry you couldn't play along this year, Ms. Scattan. I should have named my DDP team after you in your honour. Maybe the "Dana Scattan 18th Birthday Party Attendees"? Or would that be a DDP name reject? SC

The Fringes Of Fame/family Of The Famous

Houston Texans (NFL) general manager Rick Smith provided more details on his future with the team on Monday, a day after announcing that he was taking an extended leave of absence to be with his wife as she battles breast cancer. SC

She's got a new outlook on life in 2018! For former Dog the Bounty Hunter star Beth Chapman, 2017 was a pretty rough year. Back in September, Beth was diagnosed with Stage 2 throat cancer, and she had to act quickly in order to treat the disease. She underwent surgery to remove the T2 tumor from her throat and even though she recovered well and is currently cancer-free, she took to Instagram to reveal that she's still coming to terms with the scars that she's left with after her cancer battle. Looks decent enough in this photo. I hope you didn't pick her for 2018, earliest of indications is it's a 'miss'. SC

    Places With Silly Names

Frustrated residents have launched a petition to change the "rude" and "offensive" name of their street – Bell End. People living in the street in Rowley Regis in Sandwell, West Midlands, argue it is one of the rudest street names in the country, with some saying it could cause younger residents to be bullied at school. Bell End was ranked fourth in the UK in a list of the top 15 rudest-sounding street names released in 2014. SC

    Journalists

Veteran Barbadian journalist and Chairman and Editor Emeritus of the Nation Publishing Company, Harold Hoyte, is hospitalized in Florida, United States after suffering a brain aneurysm on Old Year’s Day. A spokesperson for the family said Hoyte has since undergone a medical procedure and is now under observation. Old Year's Day? er..... Dec 31? SC

    The Dead of 2018

Are we supposed to keep posting those who actually died in 2017 in the Dead of 2017 thread? I'm over it. I go by date posted, and allow you to sift through the obit for details. SC

I had a 'hit' three years ago with guitarist Jeff Golub (who was almost a last second cut), which was being announced by early afternoon. But I like the Octopus of Odstock story, and would expect nothing else from OoO. SC

Country For Old Men (And Women)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooo!!! Country singer Carrie Underwood is bringing in 2018 by sharing more details about more injuries that she suffered after a fall that broke her wrist. In a blog post to fans on New Year’s Day Underwood says she sustained a facial injury that required 40-50 stitches and that she’s “not quite looking the same.” She says that she is grateful the injuries weren’t much worse and for the people who have helped her since the November accident. She also cautioned fans that she might not look the same when she’s ready to be seen on camera again. Meh, can always put a bag over her head, as they say. SC

    Death Links

An American YouTube star has prompted a barrage of criticism after he posted a video which showed the body of an apparent suicide victim in Japan. The video showed Logan Paul and friends at the Aokigahara forest at the base of Mount Fuji, known to be a frequent site of suicides. Going in to film the "haunted" forest, they come across a man's body and are shocked, but also make jokes. Logan apologized, but some responses to his 'pathetic' apology have already made it to press. SC

    Winter Olympic Deaths

Still don't understand the necessity of breaking out the Winter Olympics from the Olympic Deaths thread (**thread whoring** cough cough), but I'll play along. Wendall “Chummy” Broomhall, an Olympian, one of the most decorated skiers in Maine history, died Saturday at the Maine Veterans’ Home in South Paris. He was 98. Broomhall competed in the 1948 Winter Games in St. Moritz, Switzerland, and in the 1952 Games in Oslo, Norway. SC

So here's a headline about a mum that died TWELVE MINUTES into the new year. Got me to thinking....this being the stats thread...anyone recall a person who was an extremely early 'first hit' on Jan 1?

    Animal Antics

Since no one of any note whatsoever has died yet in 2018, I am considering Bettie Bee the 2-faced kitten as this year's first legit death. SC

    Animal Antics

A tabby kitten named Bettie Bee was born with an incredible anomaly—she had two faces. Her rare condition is immediately fatal most of the time, but Bettie Bee beat the odds. On Friday, unfortunately, her luck ran out. The two-faced, three-eyed, two-mouthed kitten died at 16 days old, living 16 days longer than expected.

If you are saying Daisy Berkowitz was in the top 50 in DDP last year I find that absolutely stunning. Extremely shocking. Highly questionable. I'd be far more inclined to believe he was one of the top 5 'most dropped names from 2016 to 2017'. SC

    The Dead of 2018

Maura Jacobson, who for 31 years made crossword puzzles for New York magazine that were beloved by aficionados for their pun-filled wit, died on Christmas Day in White Plains. She was 91.

    Neil Simon

Horrible addition, but he’s terribly deathlisty so I understand why they were drawn to him. He was only recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s so any inkling that the Big A will have anything to do with the demise of a human being 13 months after diagnosis is extremely misguided. To anyone's knowledge Simon is in otherwise decent health, and apart from being (91?) he has zero business being included over so many other more qualified candidates. SC
