So, How's Your 2024 Shortlist Looking?
YoungWillz replied to Death Impends's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Ah, you were just a bairn in 1988 I'm sure. Whereas I was finishing my law degree and heading to postgrad study! I'm actually fascinated by 1988. Resurgence of some old numbers re-entering the charts, some new work from long-established artistes, the rise of Acid House and rave culture, increasing Euro-pop entries and still quite the dearth of rap at this stage, though some important groundwork for the 90s in that genre. This year, more than any other of the 1980s, has the most disparate and eclectic mix of Top 30-ers I have seen. I have 4 nailed on picks, 3 I want to pick out of fondness and the rest - well, I just know I'm going to miss a huge name. Still, I'm unable to pick Madonna, basically because I can't stand the vast majority of her work. If I do miss her, so be it, amen and thanks for all the crap - lol. -
So, How's Your 2024 Shortlist Looking?

Main Team - done (subject to the next 20 odd days)! Comedy Team - done. TOTP - I have been through the various ailments of possible picks and indeed it's the longest shortlist I have ever had. So the question for me is - do I go for folk not all that ill who will definitely be uniques, or go for folk who others will pick (but not necessarily make the Drop 40)? Or I could just accept I'm crap at all of this and stick 20 names down, 3 subs and hope for at least one to drop in 2024. -
Hosting his last Christmas party: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-12844055/Jeffrey-Archer-Christmas-parties-Margaret-Thatcher-Donald-Sinden-Cilla-Black-Betty-Boothroyd.html No, he's not dying, he's finding it hard to stand up for extended periods at 83. That's all you need to know. The rest of the article is self-indulgent bullshit. Ah well, you never know, there's always a bus round the corner, just waiting....

It's another of those "wow he/she looks well" to dead within months. This is your "they look healthy in this recent pic" warning for 2024! Seriously, though, RIP to one of the great heartthrobs of yesteryear.

Even his appearance in the Knorr stockpot ads is well, it's like the director said let's edge him out as much as possible. I mean, he's not one for my teams next year, but it wouldn't surprise me if he has a year left tbh.

Lauren Harries is home for Christmas: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-12834397/Lauren-Harries-leaves-hospital-seven-months-emergency-brain-surgery-spend-Christmas-home.html Or.. sent home to die? The decision is yours. I was wondering about picking her next year, thought I'd check up. Hmm.

Bawjaws slowly being exposed as the utter sack of shit he was as PM. Thought long COVID was a phantom belief by sufferers, akin to Gulf War Syndrome. Thought of the economy first, before people. Says although ethnic minorities were not actually mentioned in any paper of 2020 or 2021, they were definitely being "thought about". This is what people who never voted Tory before in 2019 got when they voted Tory then. Truss, Sunak, Security Risk Suella, Ugly Patel, Stupid Cleverly and the many many others who have held posts since 2019 - they are all just compound interest on this living compost heap. (Imo). -
Indeed. I'm trading cockwombles on the Deathlist Financial Index.

Given Reiner and now Lear are dead, does this leave Brooks somewhat in the firing line? Last of the trio of friends.

Bawjaws always called Starmer Captain Hindsight. It's just after 11am, and he has used the word hindsight over 20 times. Let's be clear. The Inquiry is always about hindsight - it's about finding out what went wrong and what with hindsight could be recommended to be done better. He hasn't accepted a damn criticism of him so far. Typical of the man. -

Couldn't decide whether to put this in Fringes, WWII Veterans or Reality. So I'm putting this here. Madge Lambert, who served as a nurse during the war and met her husband Basil on secondment, and whose story was delightfully told by the Strictly Come Dancing professionals in 2016 as part of their Remembrance Day show, has died aged 100: https://announcements.telegraph.co.uk/marketplace/advert/lambert-notices_54689 I defy you not to get emotional:
