    Doctor Who

She says she's the scientific advisor I hope there's more to her than just that. Remember if the Doctor lies... Apparently it's the Wrarth, not the Roth, ha! Maybe the assumption that it's present day leads you astray? It might not be - Rose could still be at school at 18 or even 19. I think they could have left stuff out of this episode to concentrate on the story - all too rushed and underthought as usual. I stress again, imo. There was a lot to like, but a lot to dislike.

Played for laughs, a lot of it. It was like a wrap party before it got started.

    Doctor Who

Marvellous to have the proper gang back together. However, instantly saw the plotlines coming - well you have to in 45 minutes. So things I didn't get or thought were weak. What the fuck was that metacrisis thing just "going away"? Why were the controls to simply switch off the possession of the soldiers outside the ship? That was an absolute joke. Once again a ton of supporting cast who we don't know or care about - who are the Roth? Where are they from? Who is the dame in the wheelchair? The wheelchair arguably got more character development. I've more, but jesus it's not worth the skin off my fingerprints. Seems to me the story was underdeveloped for the sake of trying to dramatise the reintroduction of Donna to the Doctor. So, not a great hit imo.

    Doctor Who

Kids today. The great thing about yer classic Doctor Who was that it was treated as a drama. So while it may seem a little slow for today's audiences, the great thing was you got to know the characters in depth - thus your love or dislike for characters was all the more, and there was more tension. Conversely, I find the 45 minuters of today too fast, all action so the regular cast get the development and the supporting cast are to a great extent ignored - I really ended up not caring whether Graham's partner got killed for example. All too rushed, no character development, no machinations or glimpses of planning for the denouement by the baddies. Having said that, there are great episodes of New Who, I just find them so glancing that to this day I don't really understand the arcs they are supposed to reflect - Bad Wolf? What was that? I said. It's like you have to invest in stuff outwith the TV episodes to understand a lot of it, whereas in the good old days, it was all in front of you. But then, I'm old and grumpy about things.

    Ideas and possibilities for 2024

Shush! He's available to me once and once only for my TOTP theme team next year! (I think he looks great! )
  20. Which is why I said the Tories haven't raised the starting rate for paying Inheritance tax for years. It was never intended to apply to people on moderate incomes - the Tories have held the rate stagnant which brings more and more folk into the ambit of it. Then more and more people resent it. Then the suggestion of cutting it appeals more. But the benefit accrues drastically to the super wealthy, to whom the tax was originally intended to apply. All they have to do is raise the starting rates. So ask yourself, why haven't they done that? The rate of inflation is current 2 and a half times what it should be and the national debt is almost 100% of GDP. Growth is zero. Talk of tax cuts of any description when the custodians of the public purse have fucked up so royally is frankly astonishing. But there's an election a-coming.
  21. It sounds like the Tories are shying away from touching Inheritance Tax after all. Anyway, we will have to agree to disagree. I'm not going to agree that Josephine Rich, yer granny, who bought up five properties to let in the late 1970s and who has been raising rents on those ever since and who has gained hundreds of thousands of pounds in the value of the properties should not be able simply to die as Josephine Multi-Rich and pass on all that unearned income by her to her kids and grandkids who will simply become Kiddie Rich and Grandkiddie Rich tax free. I said before, we have to live with it as did our ancestors. Because it is the wrong time to cut it or abolish it as it adds no value or growth to the economy, but gives a lot of wealthy people more money, while Mrs Fulltimeworker-Minimum wage is working three jobs to put nappies on her kids, feed them and give them a warm house to live in. Let's see what the last chance saloon government decide on Wednesday.
  22. Look, if they had raised the starting level of inheritance tax years ago and continued doing so in line with other taxes, it wouldn't affect most people. It still doesn't really with 4% of estates falling into the bracket overall. It's unearned income for the recipient. Death duties have been a way of life for this country forever. Don't expect me to feel sorry for Londoners - they have had all the fucking Government money thrown at them for donkeys' years. There are ways to avoid it and the exemptions are massive if you want to look for them. George Osborne kept the rate low and the Tories have been too scared to raise the bar - after all, we don't have poverty, homelessness and food banks in this country because of all the taxes we pay. (Oh, wait, no that's all going to Matt Hancock's pub landlord, Owen Paterson's companies, educating the children of Russian and Chinese in the private education sector, need I go on?).
