Wait a minute though. Do we have any idea of his age? What happens if that cannot be determined? -
al-Qurashi now definitely off everyone's dance card for 2024.

DDP pick Abu al-Hussein al-Husseini al-Qurashi reported dead by IS and here: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2023/8/3/isil-confirms-death-of-leader-abu-hussein-al-qurashi-names-successor This might be now enough to get the points, given he was reported dead by the West in April. No date though. -
Now, let's not be hasty here. The man is innocent until proven guilty. Nonetheless, for the "greatest democracy in the world" to have no rule preventing a convicted felon running for or being able to be elected to the highest office. yet plenty of rules preventing convicted felons from voting even after they have served their sentence, it seems very strange indeed to me. This could mean that Trump, if convicted prior to the election, may have the right to stand but not be able to vote for himself.

I see the parties are already out in force. Thing is, I wasn't going out today, but I'm sorely tempted to give Yousaf and Jackie Baillie a right good piece of my mind.

That is one kick ass choon. Bit of Bach in there, sounds much more like an 80s number than 70s. Reminds me of something else, mind you.

Au nom de petit homme, Rodney, au nom de petit homme.

From the Ideas/Possibilities thread for 2017: Robbie Shepherd, Scottish presenter of shows on both radio and television as well as being an author and columnist, reportedly dead: https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/news/aberdeen-aberdeenshire/6006370/robbie-shepherd-died/ Very well known up here, he'll certainly QO.

Tony Brien, defender for mainly Chesterfield, but spells at Rotherham, Leicester and Hull, reportedly dead aged 54: https://www.derbyshiretimes.co.uk/sport/football/always-smiling-tributes-paid-to-popular-former-chesterfield-rotherham-united-and-hull-city-defender-4240306 No mention in the tributes to his allegations of abuse by a former Leicester scout and the cover up of same by Graham Taylor. Maybe they came to naught.

Well, 8 is the number in an Olympic athletics/swimming final. So, I'll take it!

Rug. or as in Ugh, another by-election!

It's always been RU-therglen, an odd way of eating your syllables, he he. Plenty of English friends all around Glasgow, and all of them are fine with the proper pronunciation. It's been odd hearing the contrived way on the tellybox.

Good riddance. 14% though, seems folk weren't awfully bothered, just bothered enough. We've already had literature from Labour and the LibDems some time ago in anticipation. Folk round here don't like that - looks like they were jumping the gun. Nonetheless, I think there will be a low turnout if and when.

There has been nothing more painful to my ears than watching English news bods trying to pronounce Rutherglen. They seem to want to emphasise the -glen part, when it's the Ru- part. Anyhow, I'm in Ru'glen awaiting the news. Anyone in the know how this works when Parliament is in recess? Announcement, moving the writ, etc etc?

Well, you learn something new every day, the things you don't spot. Paul Reubens plays Elton John's manager John Reid in the video for This Train Don't Stop There Anymore, alongside - yes, that is Justin Timberlake playing Elton:
