Indeed, it's just even more hilarious that an MP with a majority of 7 was purporting to be that confident.

Fell on his arse at the start of tonight's Britain's Got Talent live show. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-12137169/Ant-McPartlin-slips-live-stage-chaotic-entrance-Britains-Got-Talent-semi-final.html Which, I understand, was the best thing in the whole show.

Let's also note that Derek Spencer's question to Margaret Thatcher at PMQs immediately prior to the 1987 General Election was thus: "As the hon. Member with the smallest majority, might I wish my right hon. Friend the best of luck? Is my right hon. Friend aware that, under her leadership, Leicester has become once more a great city of enterprise that is bursting to return three Tory Members?" To which Thatcher responded: "I know that all my right hon. and hon. Friends wish my hon. and learned Friend well and hope that he will be asking a similar question shortly after the beginning of the new Session. I know Leicester well. It has always had varied industries and I congratulate it on the level of enterprise and on the increasing number of jobs that it is providing for its people." At the 1987 Election, Leicester West, Leicester East and Leicester South all returned Labour MPs. (Admittedly, 2 of those were Greville Janner and Keith Vaz, but hey, doesn't stop us chuckling at Spencer getting it so wrong).

Jeremy Paxman signed off from University Challenge tonight. (Yes, because you were all watching [the blatantly rigged] Britain's Got Talent, weren't you?). Very brief, said he'd be looking forward to watching the show with us next time round. Optimistic bugger, isn't he?

I'd love to think in that unlikely event the Deathlist would level up. 60 names, of which only 20 could be from the previous year's list, no-one over 95.

Don't know how @Death Impends felt after writing the latest batch of obits for the DDP, I was a little shattered just reading them! Well done.

Tyrone O'Sullivan, former Branch Secretary of the National Union of Mineworkers, reportedly dead: A flying picket during the attempts of the mineworkers and others to bring down the Heath Government, as well as during the early 1980s against Thatcher's closure of the mines. Led a buyout by the pit workers of a local mine in Aberdare during the early 1990s privatisation of British Coal. Unsurprisingly, a Corbyn supporter later.
